Modern Armor GB
Posted by SchattenSpartan on Monday, August 6, 2018 1:00 PM

There are plenty of aircraft GBs on here, but I noticed a lack of armor related ones.

I thought I'd fix that by settting up one of my own and Modern Armor seems to me like a nice change from all the WW2 armor subjects.

This GB is going to start on September 1st and last for one year, until September 1st 2019.

The rules are pretty simple:

You can build any armored vehicle of any nation, as long as it entered service after the end of WW2.

Wheeled vehicles are fine, but soft-skinned cars and trucks are excluded.

Partially started models are alright too, but you shouldn't have finished more than 1/3rd of the construction.

Reserve a space for me. I have a ton going on but I may be able to knock out a 1/72 a some point during the year. TBD

Steve

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

I got all of you added to the roster.

My own entry is going to be Tamiya's Leopard 2A6.

I already had a look at the sprues and instructions and it looks like a straight forward, uncomplicated build.

I do have a Voyager PE set for the kit however, so it's probably going to be a bit more involved than that.

I'll do my best to get multiple entries in Schatten, to support this and Armor GBs in general. I'll start with a Revell 1/72 Bradley.

Cheers

Tony

I'm just taking it one GB at a time.

I’m in too.  Can’t decide what with, though.  I’ve got a T-72, an M109 Palaldin, an M2A2 Bradley, or an M60A1 w/RISE passive armor.  So, opinion poll: what would y’all like to see built?

I'd like to see the M109, is that the AFV offering?

Armor_Aficioado, so far all entries seem to be Western armor, so a T-72 would be a nice change. All of your options sound interesting though.

I put you down as TBD for now, just tell me when you decided on what you're gonna build.

SS,

I've decided on this for my build:

1/35 Takom Merkava Mk.I

This will be my first Takom kit, and my first IDF build.

I don't know about you gentleman, but, I find this to be a very attractive tank. It has some really cool lines to it.

Bruce, I updated the roster with your kit choice. I also really like the look of the Merkava, so I'm looking forward to seeing you build that one.

Clemens: LOL, I'm going to concentrate on getting this one finished first!

Bruce: That Merkava looks awesome. Looking forward to seeing you build her.

I've only built Takom's T30/34 but it was fantastic. I wish every tank kit were as well engineered.

Gentleman, I'll do my best to not let you down. Depending on when I finish a few current builds, I'll be starting later this year.

@Bish,

I look forward to see how your 432 builds. Like the Amusing Hobby kits, I have not heard anything bad about Takom kits.

@Cliff,

You are part the reason I started to buy these Takom kits. I saw when you got the T-30/34. I kept finding them on sale, so I kept buying them. LOL

Hope you like it Bruce, mine was one of those stick a hobby knife and a tube of cement in the box, shake and the model assembles itself.

I really, really, really need to get the photos of the T30/34 up here. I've photographed the thing twice and really didn't like how they turned out.

Trumpeter makes one in 1/35, but I don't know about other scales...

Okay, I’ve decided I’ll be doing the M109-A2 Paladin. Only because I had the kit, lost it,and it took me forever to find it again! The perils of having too big a stash...

Initial construction phases (lower hull and gun breech) coming along quite nicely.  I know it’s still early, but so far everythinig has just gone together perfectly.  This is an old Italeri kit from 1984 (reboxed as Testors/Italeri); I know some folks don’t have a high opinion of Italeri, but so far this kit is practically falling together!  Hope it keeps up...

Well, the M-109 progress has been great this week!  This Italeri kit has been one of the most trouble-free kits, everything generally going right where it should.  Finally ran into my first problem tonight; as you can see in the close-up photo of the front end, when affixing the top of the hull to the completed bottom, there’s a large gap in the front.  Going to have to putty it up...

You are correct, it is the 1/35 Trumpeter kit. Not sure if I am doing the all green or the splinter camoflage (?). Also looking at updating the track to individual links.
