It's hard to tell from the box Scott but I'll bow to GM's knowlage and put it down as a Fujimi.

Bruce-

Yes, me too. It's got a clear flight deck and clear hangar deck bulkheads, but as of now I doubt I would do it that way.

(later) President Ford was indeed on the ship and helped save her from a hangar fire caused by a really severe typhoon. Navy Reservist.

I think it's pretty cool that he has a CVN now named after him.

An open ended group build?  That's right up my galley!

I will probably go with Revell's USS Constitution.

Awesome! Which kit?

I figured you'd jump in sooner than later Scott. I'll get you down with an AB, possably 1/700. I'm assuming either Dragon or Hobby Boss.

Neither, this is some odd brand I got as a door prize and has been in my stash for a number of years.  It came with a PE set.  I have been curious as to how it will go together.

That's a Fujimi waterline kit. Very nice one too.

It comes from a time when Arleigh Burke models were few and far between. Now there are a lot in several scales.

DDG 54 is a Flight 1, I think the Arleigh Burke herself is DDG 51 so it's an early ship in the class.

If I may, the Flight 1 ships do not have the hangars for the helicopters forward of the flight deck yet. That's the main spotting difference. Also, the stack tops are exposed, unlike all of the later Flights except for the several early Flight 2As that followed.

You've got Drifter with his Flight 2A Lassen. Shaping up nicely here.

Justinryan, enter all of them if you want. I'll be entering more myself LOL. We have two years to enter and forever to build them after all.

Let me know if Old Ironsides is in for sure. I love that ship. Make sure you do all the rigging.

Here are some pics I found I took long ago.

I also have a vignette idea for a Vietnam Era Navy PIBBER...

"...failure to do anything because someone else can do better makes us rather dull and lazy..."

Mortal as I am,I know that I am born for a day.  But when I follow at my pleasure the serried multitude of the stars in their circular course, my feet no longer touch the Earth...

I'll pick the 1/700 Dragon kit of CVL-26 USS Monterey.

I don't know exactly when to show her, some time during WW2.

EDIT: She was Measure 22 in 1943, 33/ 3D in 1944 and 21 in 1945.

9/44 at Eniwetok. I have enough blue ships on my shelf already.

I did a google search on the USS Monterey, and found that Gerald R. Ford was a gunnery officer on that carrier. I'm looking forward to seeing you build this one, GM.

Hey Steve,

As a squid builder, put me down in your GB for a Burk class destroyer. I am also hankering to build a cruiser or battleship soon.  And of coarse, it will probably be 1/700.

I've seen the pics on navsourse, lot of growth on it.  I don't know much about the difference, just that the 4" and 5" were almost look a likes except for bore and barrel length.  I bow to the Admiralty as I can't find anything different.  Saw that she used the 4" on the 6th patrol....4"/50 it shall be.

GH, looking on Navsource.org, a view from the wreck showing the main gun, a 4"/50.

Yes will ship by the end of the month supposedly.

Going to build as USS Wahoo, SS 238, as she appeared leaving Pearl on her last patrol.

Reordered the 20's, with the correct mounts this time.  Also ordered a 4"/50 and a 5"/51.  Just have to dig out what was bolted to the foredeck on her last patrol.  I think it was a 4" from what I found from her 6th patrol, but not sure if Morton upgraded on the the refit before heading out.

All from Shapeways, they should be as good or better than the1/144 versions from the same maker.

You do realize that the title of "Captain" is more honorary than anything

Yep, knew that. The Storis had a Commander but was he was addressed as Captin, or Storis when piped abroad. The small boats are commanded by a Chief Boatswainmates but are called Captain as well but I can put you down as Senior Chief if you want though. Wink

You do realize that the title of "Captain" is more honorary than anything.....the Senior Chief actually runs the floaty things....COB is the largely forgotten rank between Captain and Admiral

Sorry, forgot for a minute you were USCG.Big Smile  Momentary senility creeping in.

I was gonna say ... but then you beat me to it. Heaven help the forums if Mach71 and I somehow ever manage to do the same model in a group build.

That would totaly confuse the Admiral LOL Wink

It looks like we are getting a full battle fleet with 4 battleships, 2 DD's, a DE, PT Boat, sub, LST, CCB, fleet carrier and of course a modern Arieigh Burke DDG.

LOL...you're right Admiral. This is going to be a fun GB.

I got you down Colonel. I built that one years ago and still have it on the shelf. It has gone through it's own battle damage and reminds me of how far I've come. Fun kit, I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

Thanks. Its a big one for a first try, but it's the one I've got the most reference material for right now.

Mach1,

It should be a fun build for you since you have a good amount of reference material. That is a impressive ship and it's going to be a treat to watch you build her.

Would you put me down for Revell's "Battle of Midway Carrier" please. I'll be building it as CV-6 USS Enterprise. A friend has been pushing me to branch out into naval subjects and this looks like the perfect opportunity.

Wow Mach1...that's a big one to start out on. I will enjoy watching you buidl it. Enjoy!

Since it ends at the end of time It's right up my alley. My Tamiya 1/350 USS Missouri has been setting in the box for 10 years now. This would help me get it out and start working on it. So that's the one I'll build. I have several different after market things I will be adding to it. As soon as I finish the German armor I'll start on this ship.
