RAAF Centenary Group Build Feeler
Posted by lostagain on Tuesday, December 1, 2020 4:45 AM

The Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF), was formed on 31st March 1921 and followed on from the Australian Flying Corps (AFC), itself formed on 22 October 1912.

This GB will run for 12 months from 31st March 2021 to 31st March 2022.

Subjects can be anything in RAAF or AFC service, flying or otherwise. Happy to include planes flown by RAAF pilots in other air forces, or captured aircraft rebadged and flown by RAAF.

RAAF/AFC has taken part in most of the 20th century's major conflicts. The AFC was involved in the Western front, Mesopotamia and the Dardanelles during WWI. In the Second World War RAAF squadrons served in Britain, with the Desert Air Force and the Mediterranean. From 1942, many RAAF units fought in South West Pacific Area.

Since then, RAAF has been involved in the Korean War, Malayan Emergency, Indonesia–Malaysia Confrontation and the Vietnam War. This century, the RAAF has participated in operations in Afghanistan, the Iraq War, East Timor as well as myriad humanitarian operations.

Happy with crossovers (I have a few in mind myself)
Honestly, it's not a feeler - I have quite a few RAAF subjects in the stash to get rid of. So at worse you can all just watch me work my way through the collection...

Here is a list of RAAF / AFC Aircraft:

You bet! Love to see a Sunderland.

There were a couple of RAAF squadrons flying them out of the UK.

I'd be interested in joining with a Monogram 1/48 OS2U Kingfisher in RAAF markings and colors (whatever that might be). Big Smile

Mark aka Tomcat

On the workbench: Monogram 1/24 '69 Pontiac GTO and a Monogram 1/67 (box scale) B-26 Invader

Okay I'm in.  1/48 Hobbycraft Hawker Sea Fury FB MK II.  One of my favorite airframes.

EDIT:  Just realized this is Fleet Air Arm I think.  Is that included?

Thanks,

John

Ah John, you are right, it is RAN (Royal Australian Navy), and not on the list!

Anything else in the stash?

The RAAF Centenary Group Build starts 31st March!

In the meantime, the Australian mint has released a commemorative coin:

(The coin is for the centenary, not the Group Build)

Thats a nice coin. The Royal Mint did somthing similar, 5 £2 coins, to mark the centenary of the RAF a couple of years back.

Piers,

Actually I came across and old 1/48 Hasegawa F/A 18A. I've had this thing since it came out in 91. what's that? 30 years now? I had started it, Just the cockpit and the two fuse half's and stoped before I sanded the seams. Looking at it I did't do too bad back then. Way before resin AM, but will disassemble it to add a resin cockpit and wheel wells as well as some PE. The decals are bad but I found an RAAF 2002 special theme set from Hawkeye models.

Patrick, love the sound of the Buffalo - such a tubby aircraft that was never going anywhere but down against a Zero.

Steve, the FA 18 A is a great pick - I have a Roodecal set I bought decades ago - one of these days I will buy the model!

Thanks Piers,

Like I said, it was started but I'm going to have to completly disassenble it and start over. I'll take a pic of it when I get home. The Aries set I'm going to get is as expensive a the kit is.

I would still like to have done the Sunderland but I need to thin the stash before I add more, Besides, it seem to be on eternal backorder like most kits are these days.

Thanks Bish, I'll take a look. I was refering to the Italeri with RAAF markings. I'll look at the Special Hobby and also look for Ausi markings for it.

Ooops, my bad, I was looking at the Mk.V. I'll still go through HLJ since I alresdy have something in my pers wharehouse and I can combine the shipping.

Both sets of my decals are here. Still not sure which ones I'm going to use. Guess I have until March 1st to decide on one...
