I attached the antenna to the service module. This pretty much finishes up the service module!

And here it is on the groovy stand I printed out but haven't finished yet:

Now for more work on the command module.

Ortiz> Forgive me for being late, but that's a splendid P-38!  Sometimes when your away from building for awhile, you miss things.  Well done!  And the F-16 is coming along bueno!

No worries Gam. I'm kinda outta the business for the time while I move and find a job and house.

BL, I love that gold foil work

BL> An amazing piece of work!  If it wasn't a "garage kit", I would wonder who made it.  Smile

Gary

PS> I just noticed the Testors bottle next to it.  It's smaller than I thought!

I got the solar arrays put on the service module:

I also got the antenna put together.

I'll be able to finish up the service module soon and get cracking again on the command module.

I got the main parts of the service module together. Looks a little more like something now.

Gotta put on the solar arrays and work on the high gain antenna next!

I've been working on my service module a bit. I put the little tanks on my command module adapter and put some foil on them.

I've also been working on the lower part of the service module:

I'm hoping to get the service module put together tomorrow and then maybe make some progress on the command module.

O & BL: Those look awesome guys!!!

I stalled out a bit on my P-38 since the PE seatbelts I had vanished. No idea where they went. I ordered a new set of them and they got here today so hopefully I'll get to them sometime this week.

I've been working on my Orion as life permits. The heat shield was a bit of work, which took a few rounds of masking and painting shades of tan.

After getting the tans/browns in a nice pattern, I top coated it with tan.

I also foiled the large tanks I'll put into the service module and mounted them on the inner structure. The main engine is painted as well, along with the main body of the service module and the crew capsule. Those still need to be detailed of course. But I'm on to working on the service module's crew capsule mount next.

Hey gang, I'm really glad you enjoyed my Lightning. I'm back in the mix with my F-16 B/Dish Fighting Falcon.

Started out with getting the cockpits and seats built up.

A problem was, these resin seats did not have the canopy breakers that the 1:1 ACES seats have.

So, I had to improvise. I cut the breakers from the kit's plastic seats and glued them onto the resin ones.

Not perfect but under some paint and the closed canopy, they'll pass muster.

I was able to get the fuselage halves and wings slapped together.

After dealing with a some seams, I glued the canopy on, too.

That's where things are as of now. Hopefully I'll be able to post some more progress soon. Stay tuned! In the mean time, keep up all the great work!

Thanks Steve. Looks like my other projects are going to have to wait just a wee bit longer. I got these in the mail today:

Now that I have these parts in hand, I'm going to wrap up my Lightning. Hopefully I'll have some photos of my finished project to share by Sunday.

Wish me luck!

O: That looks awesome! The paint fading looks cool and I love the mud in the tires. The Viper looks cool, sorry wish I could help but I don't know squat about modern jets.

The-16B used the Pratt/Whitney F-100 engines generally and had the 'small' mouth intakes. I'm not familiar with what the box title of -B Plus refer to in variant. The box art does not show the ADF (Air Defence Fighter) variant. It does show a travel/baggage pod outboard of the wing external tank and the plane in the landing configuration.

That'll be great O. I love the 16 but not really familiar with the variants other than the intake.

I read somewhere that of newer ones 50% have the GE engine an the other half have the PW. From what I understand it's to keep half the fleet flying incase on engine has parts issues or Airworthiness Directives.

I could be wrong though.

O> It's a "concept" aircraft based upon a "B" model, but not yet a "D".  Think of it as a "test" aircraft, and you'll be fine.  Big Smile

OK gang, since I'm just sitting around waiting for some parts to be delivered to finish up my Lighting and Tigercat (for the Animalistic GB), I've decided to jump back in with another submission. (You know what they say about idle hands...)

I was able to snatch up Hasegawa's F-16B and some additional goodies for free. I bought a few things from a vendor at a swap meet, and he threw in the kit as a bonus. Apparently, he got it from someone else and he couldn't sell it. He told me that it was a mix of parts and wouldn't  build up to an "accurate" -B or -D model. There was a resin "covered" exhaust, some resin ejection seats, and a sheet of Two Bobs decals in the box. Not one to look a gift horse in the mouth, a brought it home.

I know very little about F-16 variants and their assorted blocks. From what I have been able to figure, this is a -B with the "big" engine but not the big intake. Or, if you prefer, a -D with the small gear doors, intake, and incorrect main wheels. I didn't even try to figure out any cockpit differences. Eh...I don't care. I build for fun. I come from the If-It-Looks-Like-A(n)-(Insert Select Aircraft Here)-Then-It's-A(n)-(Insert Select Aircraft Here) school, so I'm going to build it. Only the hardest of the hardcore will know that my F-16 is "wrong."

So...away we go!

No, it's not "accurate," but when you can't build the one you want, build the one you got. Right?

Happy modeling!

Hey Gamera, great work on your Lightning! I wish I could snatch up a Tamiya Lightning for myself. I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product.

Anyway, as far as my Lightning goes, it's 99% done. I just need to add the belly's colored formation lights and the gun barrels. I have a set of Master Model brass barrels, but they're the "smooth" jacket type for later Lightning variants. I've ordered the "early" types with the perforated jackets. They should land on my porch by the week's end. Once they're here, it'll be a matter of slappin' 'em on and snappin' some photos! Anyway, as a teaser, here are a couple of shots of where my build stands.

Of course, comments, questions, and criticisms are welcome.

Cheers!
