Smile [:)] Why don't we ask South Aussie to rename this thread to be the Aussie GB for 2005 and keep on blabbing here until the build starts??

Just a thought.

I only wish there was a cheaper IM kit of a pre-dreadnoght or dreadnought around at 1:350ish scale. I built the old Airfix HMS Iron Duke. But that was a 1922 era version of the it. Roll on a 1:350 HMS Invincible or HMS Warspite C1916 :)

cheers

My Grandfather told me that when the Royal Navy and USN were shelling the islands in the Pacific, the landing craft he was in was betwwen the battleships and the islands and the noise of the shells going overhead was like lying under an express train.

Someting about the old big gun battleships that really catches my imagination, especially the WW1 ones!

cheers

Mike, seing a puff of smoke on the horizon, and thn having shells land all around m, would surely demoralise this lil black duck!!!!

I have been on baord the USS Missouri twice now, once in 1986 when she was in Fremantle for the America's Cup and in 2001 when I was in Pearl Harbour. She is a museum there now. They are big ships, probably the penultimate development of the all gun battleship.

I remember a US admiral saying that ordinary modern missiles would not do critical damage to an Iowa class battlewagon as modern missiles are high explosive rather than armour pirecing. I am a real naval history buff and even though I know how thick battleship armour was, it is mind blowing to actually see the thickness on the turrent access hatches.

We may even see them re-commisioned again one day as there is nothing like a battleship broadside to soften up a landing zone. Apparently the Iraqi's that recieved the broadsdes in the first gulf war were completely demoralised and shell shocked.

cheers

Mike

Next years build I feel will be an awesome experience, and with more kits under our belts, the finished items I feel will be worthy of a centerfold spread in any magazine.
Thanks all for sharing my madness with the Sabre, and I hope the 76Sqd build may eventuate one day, we need more Sabre's out there!!!!

Dave, great work on your A20,Approve [^]two models completed for the group buildApprove [^]and I couldn't complete oneSigh [sigh] I suppose there is always next year buildSigh [sigh].

As Jules has already said "Well the 31st has come and gone so i guess the GB is over" so at this stage I would like to thank all those who took part in the build and made the effort of organising it worthwhile.

IMHO the standard of the completed models was high and I believe that one of the aims of the GB, to show that modelling downunder (this includes our NZ brothers) is alive and well, was well and truely met.

See you all latter for next years group build.
Wayne I enjoy getting older, especially when I consider the alternative.

Jules and Nicholma, thanks for taking part in the group build, hope to see you for next years group build.

Tks for the compliments guys. I'll definately be back for next year's build. I've got several more Roodecal sets (a bit like self flagellation perhaps!!) and two 43rd Holden kits but there again I may branch out and do the recently, or to be, released RNZAF Vampair.

Well I have managed to finish my A20 for the most part. There are a few minor details to finish up but i'll get to them eventually. There was going to be an antenna wire there as well but it died a horrible death after a few hours of being attached.
