To Proosen Mach12003 and Luke
Thanks for the good words on this build. I should have the Oreo Shootout finished tonight. I will try to have some pics up in a day or so. Plus everyones builds are coming along nicely.

Proosen I like the way you have made the carbon fiber look in the cockpit pic. Question [?]How did you make it look like that, if you don't mind me asking.Confused [%-)]

Thanks a lot!
The CF is made from, or rather in the process of being made from CF-decals from F1-specialities. I think it looks rahter smart and slick but it's actually the wrong scale on it, the one I have is 1/12 but it works fine I think. Managed to get some more decals on the DTM-car but there is quite a lot left to do so I have the modeling future staked out Big Smile [:D]

RC Man... you are fast..... the car looks great. You're making me want to break out some of my Dale and Dale Jr. NASCAR kits.... someday, I'll get around to them.

Currently working on the interior, lots of modification and scratch building, for mt Shelby Mustang GT350-R..... it's going slow. Some piics later this week...

Niclas, that is a nice-looking one! I was just about to start my D2 one, after receiving SMS PE set, when we put in an offer on another house and now we will very likely be moving shortly. Don't want to go through the effort and then have it end up as a casualty of the move!

At this stage, my biggest fear is my long-time in-progress 1:12 F190... I will move that one personally! (And put it on a safe place once there!

Greetings all,

I would like to join, if ok-I am just starting on a Polar Lights funny car (Big John Mazmanian's) and finishing up on the Monogram GB (next week, maybe).
I have enjoyed monitoring everyones progress and work so far-I'm a strictly "out of the box" modeler, without an airbrush. Therefore, I'm open for any and all advise.

Thanks

Bob

proosen, I think the carbon fiber looks great. I would have never guessed it was the wrong scale. Nice clean work.....

bobbaily.... nothing at all wrong with being a out of the box builder. I am too... at least most of the time... and I rarely get my airbrush out unless I just absolutely can't find the color I want in a spray can. Otherwise I always use a spray can for painting.

Mach12003 thank for the good words. At this time i am getting burned out on doing these cars, so for the time being I am going to do a model of the Boeing E-3A Awacs. This is the aircraft that I worked on in the US Air Froce 12 years ago before I had to get out for a medical discharge. I just got a visit from the UPS man that brought this kit to me from EVEL BAY. So I hope that everybody understands my feelings about this wingy thingy. I will be watching this GB until I get back into the cars. OK, see everybody soon.Boohoo [BH]Confused [%-)]Sigh [sigh]

Had the 'cuda body primed & sanded when I realized that funny cars from the 70's up didn't have the seams for the doors, hood and deck lid in the one pc. body. So, I can either start painting or fill in the gaps......right now, I'm leaning toward puttying in the gaps-so, looks like the weekend is planned....can work on the Monogram GB Spitfire in between.

Mach12003-thx for the encouraging words-kinda fun to work on the same kits I did in my youth in the 60's & 70's-of course back then, I could build a kit in one day-paint & all-you can guess the quality of the work....just started back (Jan 04) after a 30+ year 'break'. most everything up to now has been wwII allied aircraft-weathering can hide a lot of imperfections & mistakes-autos are a little more difficult-and I tend to be somewhat of a perfectionist concerning my projects.

After a little more research ( I just love the web!), Big John Mazmanian's 70 & 71 'cuda had panel lines at the door, hood & deck lid. The 72 season car did not. Think mine will be a 70 or 71 version.

finally an update... the interior is finished for the most part. Still need the dash guages which are separate on this kit and seat belts need to be added. Otherwise, I modified the dash by removing the radio and glove compartment, removed the molded in knobs and replaced them with filed down pin heads. Reomved the fire exstinguisher and replace it on the console with scratch made brackets. Added mounting plates for the back bars of the rollbar. Modified the door panels and scratched built the door handels and used black textured tape for the door panel insert. Used a stick pin for the gear shifter. Seems like a lot of work for such a simple looking interior.....

Forgot to mention the next step...

The chassis, mainly the front suspension. If you've ever built one of these revell mustang kits you know how simplified the front suspension is. It's all molded as one piece that mounts directly to the chassis then the wheels mount/snap to the suspension, wheels don't steer and solid backs on the wheels themselves with no brakes.

I cut mine into pieces, threw part of it away and rebuilt other parts to create a suspension that steers, removed the solid backs on the wheels and added front disc brakes that are visible through the wheel. Most of the work is done on this and just about ready to move to the back suspension.

Pics coming in a few days.....

another update...

This is the new front suspension. As mentioned before the cross member, tie rod and wheel mounts were molded as one piece. The shocks/springs were the only separate pieces. I removed the molded on springs from the shocks and will add wire later to make new springs after I paint the shocks/struts. I cut the unit in to pieces and made it functional as far as turning left/right, added disc brakes, etc...

This is my first attempt at something like this so it's probably a little crude but it works for me and it's better than it was to start with.

Just got back from a weeks holiday but I did take my WRC Safari Corolla with me and managed to find a few hours to start the detail painting, construct the dash and start that task every Hasegawa modeller just loves - the seat belts at about 2 hours per seat!!

I am soooo jealous! With our house being in the market now, my wife (in all her wisdom) decided it will be a very good thing to tidy up my study and take ALL my current projects to a friend of ours' home!

I have not touched a model in a week-and-a-half. I am ready to admit now... I'm a model-aholic! It feels as if I lost something...

Keep it up, guys, it's looking good!

Greetings all-

Looking forward to seeing the Mustang complete-Eric. Impressive so far.

Question for the group-what is the 'best' method to apply candy apple (red) Testors over Testors gold? Figured I'd let the gold 'cure' until the weekend-but then is it a couple of light coats/mist then heavy or different process?
Thanks in advance.

Know exactly what you mean, tried to quite because my economy didn't like all the model stuff. Lasted two weeks, ran down to the LHS and bought me the Monogram Mountain Dew car and built like crazy. Haven't really tried that stunt anymore, today I get the abstinence syndrome if I stay away to long from the the pit.
Hasn't made any progress on my two Mercedes', but tried some brake fluid on the CLK-GTR and it looks like I can safely strip the bodywork in the stuff I bought. Have melted a body in another brand before so I had to try on scrap piece first. So now it's going to have a bath and then a new paint job as I got some dust particles in the reacent paint job.

Cheers!

Niclas, or anyone, for that matter, do you know of newer decals for the Merc's? I saw highlights of a DTM race last night and the colouschemes are just stunning! Even a few years ago's Vodago sponsorship on the Schneider car will do just fine! That way the body hasn't changed all that much, at least...

Maybe I missed it, but what went wrong with th GTR? The last time I checked your page, it was something I'd aspire to!

I know there was some decal sets for the 2000 DTM's one of them was a special that Mika Häkkinen drow in his usual West livery and I've seen another one that I don't remeber the livery of. Wouldn't it be nice with some new DTM's, Mercedes, Audi, Opel!? About the GTR, there was some flaws in the paint job that I couldn't hide underneath any decals, so right now it's taking a bath in brake fluid and I'm about to get it out and give it a good scrub and rinse. Then it's just to start over again, this time taking care to moist the room with water to knock down the dust. It has worked wonders in my most recent paint jobs, so it will get much better next time. Nice to hear I'm doing something that people like, even if it's from another model maniac like myself Big Smile [:D] I've been occupied with three Ferraris the last couple of weeks, Enzo, 365 GTB/4 Daytona and a 360 Modena. None of them is getting red nor yellow Evil [}:)] I'll post some pics of them later when I've finished them.

Cheers!

Painted the 'cuda last night-not happy with it-spray can started splattering-ended up with a candy apple red hand afterwards.
Other problem is that my 'automotive' painting skills are lacking-more comfortable with WWII planes-more forgiviing. However, this is a learning process and I'm hoping that I can let the body set for a week while I work on the chasis & engine then do some wet sanding (2000+ grit) and/or polishing compound/toothpaste next weekend. Worst case is that the body goes into the vat of Castor's de-greaser and I start over. Also, I want to get a better digital camera, but that is way down on the wish list right now.

Having seen everyone's work on this build, I'm always open to suggestions.

Thanks

Well from what I can see it looks good the pix is a bit fuzzy. I should be back in the drivers seat on Monday and building the #8 Deale Earnhardt Jr. car. I was thinking of doing a dio on a garage or pit row.

A bad day. I only had a limited time to spend modelling today and decided to repaint the
Ferrari body shell. I was sure I had washed it properly ready for painting a few weeks ago before it was wrapped and stored but on the first pass the paint reacted with something on the surface so now its on hold until its dried so it can be resanded and washed. Maybe I'll leave it in primer grey!
