Hey Mississippivol
I think what I will do is sit out on the porch and whiddle we a stiffener rod and when use a trick I learned while building my radio controlled wingy thingys and take a stiffener rod and wrap some thread around it and then glue it in place. I am sorry I guess that I am that way when it comes to safety on the track. Big Smile [:D] Whistling [:-^]

This maybe what I need to motivate me to build my first model in 5(?) years. So count me in.Not sure what I will build though, but got plenty to choose from.BTW ,that brings me to this question ,if I may ask... If you folks have so many kits you have collected ..how in the world do you decide what to build?

OT: nicholma: you guys did have a good weekend of sport, yes. Of the few things I watched this weekend (GP excluded) my rugby team even managed to lose with a single point (one of two one-point different scores this weekend in the Curry Cup)

The good news is that the water hazard did a bit of damage, but not nearly as much as I thought. Just touched it with sanding paper...

Anyways, I'm trying this picture-thingy again - added a masking pic as well...

Interior (at this stage)

Masking

Early version from the side. Screwed up a bit with the glueing, but won't be seen (i think) on the finished thing...

Sign - Welcome [#welcome] A68Trans-AmMustang Mate - with a sign-in name like urs, you are most definitely are welcomed to join in! I've listed you in the Nominations List. This is located on Post 1 on Page 1 of this thread. I keep this up-dated everytime there's new info for sharing - so refer back to it as needed. When you decide your build, just give us a hello, and I'll put it up. Also, if you missed it, Scale Auto is tag-teaming us too, but it's been a bit quiet there Wink [;)] - there was this guy talking about kicking FSM's butt Evil [}:)]!

Personally, I have about 30+ kits in my stash, and all are in various states of building - from not even the box wrapping plastic removed to some just needing a few extra decals. I like building a/c & ships, but have space and others in my collection too. Like mississippivol said, it's like having a LHS in your room. I go through phases between ships & aircraft, so it doesn't matter what I build now, it will be done later Big Smile [:D].

Hey, I feel I'm on top of the wave! Might as well enter another one to the group build. As I made some minor screw-ups on my CLK-DTM I bought me a new one yesterday and I think I can manage to get that one finished in time.
So please put me up for this one to, Mercedes CLK-DTM Orginal-Teile from Tamiya that is.

Yes!
Another Skyline, I love those cars, they're awsome. This one has had some good critics about the decals from Cartograf, they are very opace from what I've heard. If they are anything like the ones in my new Mercedes they will be fantastic to work with. Looking forward to hear what you think of it. I have just the tinted rear-quarter windows and the rear view mirrors to do on my Pennzoil Skyline. Had to cast a new mirror since my son had a look at all the newly washed parts and managed to drop one so it disapeared in the sink Angry [:(!] But hey! If that's the price for raising a future modeler, so be it Wink [;)] I have started to build on my second entry the DTM car above and just painted the rims on both my entrys and started to assemble the body work on the DTM. Have some putty work to do, but not so bad after all. Hopefully I will manage to get some base coat on that one in the next couple of weeks, before I go on vacation.

Cheers!

Fixede the problem with the track bar, I dont think that NASCAR will be able to find the fix.Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]Whistling [:-^] Dont tell them ok. Still need to put the decals on the Daytona Triump and then that build will be finished. I started on the eye candy for everyone tonight. I shot some primer on the 24 Hour Daytona Corvette C5_R. I hope that I do not have the problem with orange peel as I have had with the Service Plus and the Oreo Shootout car. Will have some pix up in a day or two.

OK fellas, here's some pics of my build so far, the 2001 C5-R from Lemans #63:

First, an overall shot. I've removed the hood section by cutting through the plastic with sewing thread. Worked quite well actually. The hood isn't sitting right in the picure, because I have a toothpick glued to the front bumber for handling while painting. It interferes with the fit of the hood. I've also thinned out the plastic a bit around the ducts on the hood and rear fenders (this is tough to do without changing/wrecking the shape of the duct). I also sanded down the 'rivet' detail around the side windows because it didn't look good to me, and pics of the real car don't seem to look the same.

Here's a shot of the hood to show what the new vents look like. They're made from styrene strip and worked out better than I expected. They're not exactly like the real thing, but better than the molded in version that is part of the kit.

Here's a shot of some little details I've replaced on the interior frame/cage. They were molded as part of the frame in the kit, and didn't look very realistic to my eye. These are just made from scrap aluminum, brass, and styrene.

Finally, a shot of the new rear diffuser built form sheet brass and thin styrene strip (the kit supplied version is also shown). Hopefully this will look much better on the completed model.

I'm really enjoying this build, and am trying lots of new things I've never done before. I'm anxiously following everyone else's builds too!!

Shock [:O]Shock [:O] Incredible man....nice work!! All those thick clunky lQQking vents are the main reason why I passed that kit up.I bought the "Goodwrench" car when it first came out and I was not happy with it.Molding lQQked to "toyish" to me so I passed on the LeMans car. Looks like your doing it justice though.. can't wait to see pics of it on completion so I can make my self sick on all the eyecandy.Tongue [:P]Tongue [:P]

All right now, after 9 days of build time here are the finish pix of my #3 build the Daytona Triumph Monte Carlo. I hope that you all like this one and I hope that the pix are better for you.

The next build is on the bench as we speak. And as I said I hope that you Like these.

Also I do know that the right side rear window is not in the car, that is because it was not in the kit. I will have to build up a parts box with this and finish it.

Nice to see another one in the paddock. You're improving your photographing skills, looks much better now. One thing you could do is to remove the mold seems on the rollcage, otherwise it looks quite good. As of what I can tell it's brush painted? and that's not very common being the age of the airbrush and all Wink [;)] Let's have another one, it's a long time to december 1st and with your speed you could have an entire starting grid by that time. I've just managed to get the bodyworks on both my builds painted and the DTM car is getting a clear coat today and then it's on to the fun part, decaling Big Smile [:D] They have quite a few to put on, both my subjects.

Keep up the good work!

hey mate -sweet sign-in name & g8t quote Big Smile [:D].

after a bit of lurking around the old forum, I couldn't help but notice that your 'very cool' quote, seems to get repeated alot!

not that I've checked all your posts, but surely you haven't posted some 90-plus posts using the exact same quote.

Quite strange, yet very compelling, and down-right hilarious!

Hey RC,

I'll bet many folks didn't realize that Childress' chassis were usually the color red (or red orange?), but his Daytona winner was dove grey like you have it. With that, I'll tell tech inspection to pass yer car with the improvised track barBig Smile [:D]. 'Tis the least I could do for the Intimidator! Oh, I heard a story about how they glued a penny that a little girl gave Dale for luck onto the dashboard of that car. That'd be a neat and easy detail for her. BTW, should we check under the roll bar padding for lightening holes? Wink [;)]

Cheers!

Hey Now Don't tell my Secerts. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] Whistling [:-^]
All of the paints so far have been as per the directions.
I did know about the penny on the dash by I am not good enough to paint that detail on the car.
Also if you did not hear, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. was rushed to the hospital yesterday after a fire in what else a Corvette C5-R.

yeah - I heard about this and saw the footage in the Sports News last nite. I heard he only recieved 6% burns (althought all burns are bad) but a very un-nerving site nonetheless. And he may race again next week! I didn't know who Dale Earnhardt Jr nor Snr was until I saw the news report which detailed his ol'man aswell. It kinda helps me understand what your building.

And now for something completly different. This is how long I've got with my second entry, the decal intimidator, the notorius Orginal-Teile machine. I thought I would try out some carbon fibre decal on this one. Not a very good pic, but it gives you all some idea of what to expect in the future. The down side is that I dont have enough for the car so I'll have to hunt down a couple of more sheets of that. The body is painted all Tamiya laquers, AS-20 followed by a couple of clear coats and the blue is TS-54. I painted all that's supposed to be blue on this one, instead of using the decals on the two front wings. It will look better than the decal, especially when it gets a clear coat to as a final touch on the completed body work.

Cheers!

Looking good so far. Its a nice looking kit that Tamiya have produced. I was seriously thinking of also getting it but its a bit outside my current collection themes and as I'm struggling in the building department this year I probably won't follow your lead.

Niclas, I built that one. Unfortunately, took it to work and the the cleaners completely destroyed it!

The decals aren't all that bad - looks intimidating, but you'll manage. Good job thusfar! Fortunately, I still have a D2 version "waiting"...

Yes, I know. I've already built one before, liked it a lot. Made some stupid mistakes on that one so I thought I'd go for it again. I love the decals from Cartograf, works very nice and smooth. Sorry to hear about your Mercedes.

I just completed my second build. It's the 67 corvette raced at Le mans by Bob Bondurant and Dick Guildstrand. It's the revell kit with Vintage Racing Miniatures decals I hope you like it. I had fun building it.

When in doubt just build it. Mark http://www.ipmslivonia.org/ipms/
