Posted by Vintage Aircraft on Tuesday, June 8, 2004 3:19 PM
This group build is not for the timid modeler, we are to build the model aircraft from the monogram kit line, from the very first kits produced all the way to the Pro-Modeler series of kits. Also the kits under the Revell logo, (Note these kits have to be a Monogram kit under the Revell logo)

Also no Revell of Germany kits, unless they can be traced back to a monogram production run.

The start date is June 9, the cut off date will be July 15, and the finish date will be January 1st

I was thinking about playing around with the ancient Me109E. I have lots of extra 109 decals so I'll see what I can do with it.

Hi all,

I just finished the Monogram 1/72 F-4J Phantom kit. It's a fine kit, and it went together pretty well.It needed some filler putty, and it suffered from some nasty ejector pin marks, but overall I had a blast building it.

Here's a montage of photos of the completed kit:

Here are three photos of it being built:

.
Lastly, here's a review of the same kit from Modeling Madness:
http://www.modelingmadness.com/scotts/viet/mono72f4j.htm

I used aftermarket, Fox One decals on the plane.

So, I won't be participating in this build, but I can highly recommend this Monogram kit if any of you can find it.

In fact, most of the kits I've built over the years have been Monogram, now that I think about it. I've always enjoyed their kits. They may take a bit more work than many newer kits, but they're still darned good values and they build into nice kits with some care.

Regards, and good luck!

-Drew

Nice one, Drew! Thanks for sharing. Still haven't decided whether I'll go for the Me-410 in the Pro-Modeler range or this ancient Tu-16...? I'm not sure how accurate the Tu-16 kit is, and whether it can be turned into something better. I'll check that later today...

G'day,

Do we have to stick with the kit decals or not ? Or can we use 'After Market' ?

Is it to late for me to get in? I've got Monograms P-47D Razorback as my next kit on the to do pile. Just have to pick up some paint for it.

Only if you want to use them but otherwise go ahead and use aftermarket products, infact I encourage you to use them for these kits.

Ack I am way behind...Instead of getting the kit and detail set I bought a new Iwata brush. So i will be scrambling to make the dead line. Due to a bad auto accident I was in at the beginning of the year I am just getting back to work on limited hours. Can ya see your way to extending the time line so I wont be late on ya all?

If you really need it back I can put the date back to December 1st, but since most of the kits being built here dont take more than two to three months to build outta da box, or upgraded, but in the case of fighters sometimes less than a week, I think that everyone that is doing two or less aricraft should do maby one more but only if they were origianally doing just fighters. ( not including P-61 since it is a much bigger kit)

Cool idea for a group build! I'd like to particpate. Please put me down for;

1/48th scale Monogram AH-1S Cobra (Israeli Air Force)

I'll try to squeeze another in if I get the time (got a build-up going for the ARC Viper Cadre Group Build too Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] ).

Cheers,

Daryl, By any chance do you still have the instructions for the Typhoon? I bought a bunch of kits at a garage sale (105 kits for 10$) and most of them are missing instructions and or decals. The decals I can live without but the instructions on the other hand. If you do would you be willing to snail mail me a copy of it? I'll pay for the postage.

Woot. One Monogram B-17G kit acquired and basic Interior colors going up. Waiting to buy my Eduard b-17 PE sets for my next paycheck. I think I will be down to the wire with the deadline but I won't quit.
Do I have to post pics?? I might have a smidge of a problem there but we'll see. I have a camera and scanner...but not sure of the lens on my camera for those close ups for ya all.

It has been a long time since I built the Monogram F-14A; it was only my second build as an adult, and the original has long since gone to model purgatory. This weekend I unwrapped the kit I bought for $6 and test fit some of the major components. Hmmmmmm. I had forgotten how challenging this kit really is. The fuselage halves are mismatched end to end by at least 4 mm! This is really going to be a job - lots of flash, raised panel lines, and mismatched parts. What have I gotten myself into?

LOL Chem...welcome to the world of ealry monogram my friend. Strap in, Turn it over, Hit the afterburner (since your'e doing a tomcat) and ride into the sand and fill world we all love.

Decided to build straight from the box, unless you count filler putty as a super detail item for this thing!!!. Gonna go natural metal on it with Alclad. Is it me or did they add detail to this thing...I don't remember seatbelts on this thing when I built it when I was in the 6th grade?

I'm new (again) to modelling after a 10 year hiatus. Can I throw in the EA-6B Prowler in 1/48th?
