Just got the lattest issue of Fine Sacle Modeler, and the first thing that I turned to was How to Detail a European Theater B-24 Liberator. I thought that the article was a little short, and they mentioned nothing of detailing the cockpit area of the Lib, but the waistgunning position pics were a god send for me.

On my project The Lady Be Good in 1/48, I have about 98% of the interior of the aircraft built for the waiste gunning positions. I spent about 2 weeks, researching and constructing all of the pieces that had to be added. I had only one reference photo of the Lady Be Goods interior to work with, and a caption to a step in building the Lady Be Good by Shepard Pain to work with. So it was very difficult tobe shure that the detail I was adding was accurate. Not to menttion I could not find any good overall pics of the Libs interior period. So I did what I could to it using what little resources I had. Then I get FSM and see what he did to detail his lib interior, I sighed a huge sight of reliefe and jumped for joy when I saw what I had done was almost identical to what he had done, and I also found out that mine was actually more detailed than his was. I can now stop worrying about the accuracy of what I have done to improve the detail of the bomber and start the painting and weathering process.
Not to mention I have built and painted the cocpit of the aircraft, cut the feusalage appart, built the destroyed engine nacel, detailed the inside of the nacel, feathered the props, bent them, broke the nose bubble glass, built the top turret, simulated the extensive fabric rotting on the controll surfaces, built internal sructure on them where needed, painted the kit engines, I have converted the tail turret to the correct version, and opened the life raft compartments. I still need to make the bulge on the feusalage, and make wrinkles in the aircraft skin (still practicing, on scrap plastic), weather the full interior, put the wings on the feulsalage, and close up the feausalage, and then I can airbrush the exterior, and its onn to the base.

I just might be able to get this bomber done and ready for the September 11th competiton after all. Oh I was also up at Oshkosh last weekend, and I got to help prepare a B-25H for takeoff, how cool is that. Also when I was there I got two new models, the Revell box scale F-94C starfire interceptor, and the Revell 1/48 F-105D thunderchief.

Sorry for the extreamly long post, I have not updated my progress on my build for a very long time so it took a while to tell what I have done.

See Ya

My Bf-110G-4 night fighter has finaly reached completion! I have posted a couple of pictures of the finished aircraft here
http://www.finescale.com/fsm/community/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=25016
This was one of my most interesting builds. Not only was it the first aircraft that was bale to get a somewhat convensing squiggle on (it had always scared me before), but it was also the first time that I have ever done anything with panel lines. I used a mechanical pencil for the job. Overall, this was a very fun project! Some of the models that you guys have posted are truly amazing!

Nicley buitl, I love that cammo, and for a first time it is amazing, you shur did better than I did on my first attempt at it. infact it was my only attempt at it.....hmmmmm.Well anyways great model, I would suggest one thing thought, the exhuast stains on the wing, I think you should try and use an airbrush of that, but other than that, quite an impressive build. Good job. Hope you decide to join again with another model.

Vintage Aircraft, wish i could join with another kit, but time will not permit it. I have neither the room nor the time to work on models after I move back into collage.
Good luck everyone, the finished models that have been posted so far are outstanding!

Wow has this build died or something, no posts have come about for three days now. Oh I was thinking about letting some more people in on this because depending on what your building this is a fraily easy GB, so what do you guys say to letting me let more people in?

The Mitchell is progressing steadily, but slowly...

Is mostly SOB, but I did add a few things to the center console because it was completely barren. No detail at all there. Unfortunately most of the switches I added came off while drybrushing, but that's the nature of the beast sometimes.

Still have a ways to go on the cockpit, not to mention the rest of the interior. Slow but sure...

I had put this up on the aircraft forum. Now will put some pic of my PBY-5A that is now done. How this was done on the weathering;1st four coats of paint. The first was sliver and let dry overnight the other three were MM flat black and the last of three was thined out then sprayed. After drying for a few hours I used coruse sandpaper and started to gouge and roughf up.After which Ikeep progressing my sand to a very fine sandpaper untill I got the look I wanted. Some of the canopys and windows get a little scratched up. To repair them I used a very fine sandpaper and future acylic wax, this worked great. So enjoy the pics.Digger

Hey all! I have an update on my builds. Currently the P51D is going the best, with the cockpit 90% complete with painting and detailing as are the wheel wells. I hope to have the cockpit assembled and installed by the weekend.

The Stuka is going slower. I decided to correct the panel lines that were scribed but not correctly located. I'm working on adding some minor details to the cockpit side walls using some plastic strip, wire, etc. I still need to re-scribe the fuselage panel lines and upper wings. I'm going to try to get some pictures posted but my in first attempt the pictures were extremely blurry but I'll try again.

Any tips on taking clear photos? I have 35mm camera. Thanks!

Steve

Well, the Spitfire has been assembled, puttied (and lots of it), sanded, primed, resanded and reprimed. Hope to have the first coat of paint (the undercarriage) of light grey put on this coming weekend.
This will be my first 'mixed' camo paint job (earth & green)-any suggestions on how to mask off the area? my first thought is to tape off the bottom (grey) and then a coat of earth brown. then mask off, either with the Saran Warp 'sticky' wrap or post-it notes or cut index cards with two-side tape. also, this is a spray can effort, if that makes a difference.

Decided to paint the belly of the Spitfire last night-sun baked the primer prior-all went well until I looked for the carb. intake to paint-LOST! Cliped from the tree and lost! However, a few minutes and $3.- on the Monogram web site and I should have a replacement in 20-30 days. Sigh...oh well, I'm doing this for relaxation & character building, right?

Been a while since my last update. So here goes.

Got excited about the Harrier so here is some pics I hope of the finished bird. I got a little heavy handed on the weathering on the wings, but hey that is how we learn. There were no big fit problems that jump to mind. I just left her unloaded cause.
1. I mostly remembered them with the tanks just hanging.
2. The Ordnance just looked to phoney to me.

Well enough of that here's some pics of her built OOB.

OK that's about it for now. Sorry the pics aren't the best.

Now on to the Scooter. The basic build is done and the belly paint is on her. Soon I should hope to get the rest of the paint on her and start getting all the fiddly bits I.E landing gear, bomb racks and the likes of that stuff.

Til next time.

Spitfire has been masked & painted. Should start weathering soon. Did a quick fit check on the canopy-not a good fit. Also, two of the three pcs. have no frame to speak of -another challenge.
What is the best/preferred/easiest method to post pics?

Thanks

The carb intake arrived via USPS yesterday-very quick turnaround-thanks Monogram.

Decals are on the Spitfire-gloss coated-will do some weathering/sludging this weekend. Hopefully have it complete by the end of the weekend if Ivan brings the projected rain all weekend to West Virginia. Of course, we're lucky compared to the folks in Fla. and the Gulf Coast-prayers are with them.

Hopefully have pics early next week.

It just keeps getting better and better.....applied a light wash on the underside to 'dirty it up' a bit, then assembled the strut/wheel/strut cover components and installed. Either Monogram either failed to provide a slot for one of the two assemblies in the wing or I, in my haste, failed to read the instructions in detail. What should have been an easy operation turned into one of those 'superglue and hold it upside down for 30 min. while the family stares at you' affairs. That is,after I got the tube of superglue 'removed' from my finger.....When I last left the Spitfire, it looked 'ok'-will need to check the landing gear alignment against some reference material. To make matters worse, I realized that the whole affair could have been avoided if I had taken the time to test fit the components and get my reading glasses (yes, I need bifocals-maybe I'll cross over and join the Old Guns build) but they were upstairs....patience, patience.....

Getting closer-just need to weather the upper surfaceses a little (chalk & light wash), some exhaust & gun chalking, apply gun barrel 'patches' and mask & paint the canopy.
