                        Tom i know the A/C mate, i did one for lasts years Gb and i'm doing one at the moment but with a white tail, I think they're from 80th wing based at Morotai........

                        Sign - Ditto [#ditto] me with the Mk.VIII Tom. Jules and I both did them for the Aussie GB last year; the only difference from memory was the camo colors. Jules was the same as yours while mine was in Ocean Grey & Dark Green over Medium Sea Grey. They look really cool with the shark’s teeth.

                        I finally got the Esci decals onto the Airfix boomerang. Now some touchups to remove silvering and a couple of coats of Future to protect the decals and it is weathering time!

                        The 30 year old Esci decals needed Microscale decal film to prevent shattering and then bedding in Future with a great deal of working to get the decals to lock down as they did not adhere and curled badly. Each decal took 20-30mins to make good, so it took over 3 nights to finish the task.

                        I wil get some pics up soon!

                        Need help with RAAF P38 lightnng in 1/72 scale. These were E/F models I believe, only 3 in service, kit available fromm Airfix. What adout Hasegawa J/L model kit, what is the difference between models. Any decal sheets to suit.

                        John I haven't seen any decals for the RAAF P-38's but they are not to hard to cobble together from a combination of Aussie Decals and Red Roo decal sets. Aussie Decals (going out of business soon) produce the roundels and the numbers for RAAF acft. It was an early E model and I think I have photos of it if yu need some. I definately have pictures of other Modellers work on them if they would help.

                        Darren - I just opened up the box on mine because I didn't know about any sharks teeth decals... after looking at the detail on this kit is is WAY better than the N. Africa Mk.V I am currently building, at least on the wings area, didn't look too hard at the rest...

                        It's odd how Hasegawa made the wing tips as separate pieces on both those kits... not too hard to get them to mate up right but strange all the same. (unless they use the same wings for the clipped winged versions of the Spit kit)

                        Yeah Tom the has kit i have gives me the option of the clipped wing version and also the older style rounder tail but i much prefer the sharper tail Thumbs Up [tup]

                        ahhh that explains it Jules... the Mk.V kit doesn't show that option, and is missing the caps for the wings for a clipped wing version... now it is a bit less odd....

                        BTW Tom if you don't have the sharks mouth decals and wanna put them on you can get a fantastic decal sheet called "Shark Attack" from www.aeroimageworks.com

                        But you have to chop most of the black out of the decal to get it to conform to the nose, i went through 2 sets of decals before i figured that out........

                        Hey PakNicK there's no rule that says you have to be an Aussie to join the build, Toms from Texas and he fits in just fine. If you want to nominate a build, have a look on page one for the rules and jump on board.

                        John, you're not going to believe this but I saw RAAF P-38 decals at lunch time at the Victorian Hobby Centre here in Melbourne. The sheet is from Dave's decals. I'm not sure what scale they were but I can find out easily enough if you want.

                        Tom I agree with you on the Hase Spit, it's a real beauty. About the only thing that I could pick on is that the cockpit is a tad sparse, but apart from that it's great. Oh and the Sharks Teeth decals for 457 Sqn RAAF and Jules is right they don't come with the kit

                        I personally thought Lost was going to be another American drivel show.
                        But it grows on ya something fierce!!

                        As for Stargate, it doesn't have the same impact as the originalDisapprove [V], but it will do till I get the remaining seasons I haven't seen on DVD.

                        And this weekend, I am soooooo hoping to get a decent crack on the Bell, haven't had a chance to do anything since I masked and sprayed the canopy.
                        All thats left is to make the fuel tanks, and start ass'y the engine to the frame.

                        And decals..................which remiinds me, I might phone Red Roo right now.............

                        No models for me this weekend (excpet maybe a visit to Snowy Mountain Models) as I have to go down to Melbourne to see my new Nephew who was born last sunday.

                        But on a better note, I have ordered the cockpit set for the 1/48 canberra from Aeroclub. So at some stage in the future I can do the Falcon Canberra sitting in my stash. Big Smile [:D]

                        Cool Tweets Good job on keeping the young ones model minded, My boy who is now 4 has made a 109g and a 190d with my help of course and thankfully they were only the $6:00 Airfix 1/72 kits cause they didn't last long after he startedto play with them....
                        And Sign - Ditto [#ditto] I like Stargate SG1 better than Atlantis but it's good to watch while detail painting.........
                        Darren whatever you do don't tell me what happens on Lost, that show has me caught, I havn't seen the first episode when the plane actually crashes, i totally forgot it was on and then i forgot that the encore screening was on and missed it again.........

                        Personally I hate it when people give away the plot line of a show. Oh and btw if you are missing any episodes, just drop me a line and I'll shoot them up to you.

                        Ok guys I've got a big problem that I need help with. I think I'm turning to the dark side, yes that's right I'm becoming more and more interested in tanks. I'm actually watching Dragon release schedule and beginning to hang out for their new Battle of the Bulge Sherman Shock [:O]. If this keeps up I'm going to have to join an armor GB next year Big Smile [:D]

                        Dont be too concerned Darren, just do like I did when the armour bug hit.

                        I went to the local hobby store, and bought myself a nice big Panzer G.
                        Then I went online and ordered all the usual goodies to detail it to the upteenth degree.

                        6 months later, I swore I would never build another armour kit again!!!

                        I am now cured................but wooden ships are beginning to look appealingBanged Head [banghead]

                        Here is an in-progress pic, showing the decals on the Boomerang. I just have to tidy up a bit of the silvering around the fuselage roundel. (The camera flash has made it worse than it is silvering wise and also done wierd things to the glossed fuselage).



                        Each Esci decal after being overcoated with Microscale Decal Film took 15-20 minutes to bed down properly laid on a layer of fresh Super Stride (Future). Then the labourious process of getting the decal to conform to the model surface (they curled terribly). Once the Future dried overnight, an application of Aeromaster Decal Sol helped snuggle them down tight. It took 3 nightly sessions to get all the decals on.

                        I have to add the red canvas patches over the machine gun ports, plus some silver decal to represent the wing leading edge landing lights.

                        Once that is done and another coat of Super Stride (Future) goes on, I will be ready for a burnt sienna sludge wash and some subtle dry brushing.

                        The little things at the end always take the longest!

                        From my ref books, the Mk V version onwards.

                        Well, I have moulded the first half of the first fuel tank for the Bell using Tamiya putty.
                        Was a little hesitant at first, but this stuff is great to use, so long as you remember to keep your fingers wet with water.
                        Got the second half curing now, so cold here it takes around 8 hours for this stuff to cure!Shock [:O]

                        So close to finishing I can smell it!!!

                        Dave (Harvs), the P-38 decals were an old batch of long out of print Dave's Decals for the P-38. I didn't ask the scale because they were gone anyway.

                        Nick, tweets is right the RAAF used a lot of Spits during the war but mainly Mk.Vc, Mk.VIII & Mk.IX. Post war I think we used a few of the really late marks but I'd have to check to find out which ones.

                        Mike , you're decaling and painting looks great, your Boomerang will look cool once it's given a matt coat and a wash. Also, I have found that Tamiya tape airbrushed red makes a great replica for the gun port covers.

                        Sean don't tell anybody but I picked up Dragon's Sd.Kfz. 251 Ausf. D 3 in 1 kit and it's a beauty.

                        Funnily enough the profile I am basing this little Boomer on does not have the canvas covers, so I have decided to not put them on. I just need to sort out the machine gun wing openings. A few strategically placed black dots will do that!

                        The Silver decal for the wing landing lights do not look good at all, so I will leave well along and forget about it!

                        Nick , for a good idea on the variety of spitfires used by the RAAF you can go to the Red Roo website and have a look at the decals that Gary Byk has produced.

                        You will find that the RAAF used MkVc, MK VII, Mk VIII, Mk IX, Mk14E and thats just those covered by decals produced by Gary at RedRoo. Aeroimage Works also produce decals for RAAF Spitfires so have alook there for inspiration as well.

                        Darren , thanks for looking at those decals, pity they are all gone and no longer prduced no matter what the scale. Maybe there might be an opening for Red Roo or someone along those lines to produce them. Big Smile [:D]

                        Mike wow 11 lbs. that is a big boy. I hope you bought him a kit as a welcome to the world present.

                        :::progress update:: After a very long delay, my Buffalo entered the paint shop last night, with a base coat going on the underside of the aircraft after I masked off the sky coloured fuselage band. I’ve got to admit that I’m glad I’ve got a group build making me finish this kit, otherwise it would have ended up in the ever growing “to be completed later” Sad [:(] pile.
