waikong, put me in for a KV-1 also. Started it last night and it's almost done already! Hard to believe it only took three hours to assemble the thing. These Tamiya kits are sweet little monotony breakers.

hkshooter, done. You are fast! These kits build much faster than my usual aircrafts, but 3 hrs? Maybe you should build 2 or 3 more! I've started my Sherman, but it'll take more than 3 hrs for me.

These usually fly for me. This one I've done a little differently because of circumstances. I completely finished the contruction on this one prior to painting. The painting I will probably have about three more hours in so the total time is likely to be six or so hours. I hope I'll be able to paint it suitably while it's completely together. Going to be interesting.

Does the 1/48 scale vehicle need to be an actual military used vehicle or can it be a "what if" military vehicle?

Thanks, I've got this 6-wheeled combat vehicle that is 1/48 scale but does not fit into most traditional group build genres. I thought it would be a good vehicle to build for this GB.

Waikong I'm definitely up for this one, can you please put me down for a Tamiya M-26 Pershing.

Rob, where the heck did you get that kit from I don't think I've ever seen one quite like it, was it part of a series?

Cheers

Darren, welcome! I've added you to the list, a non-WWII subject. Along with Rob, yours two are the only non-wwii subject. Nice to get the variety.

It was part of a Japanese anime mecha series. That vehicle was originally called the JRS Native Dancer. Revell imported several series of Japanese anime models and labeled them all "Robotech". This was one of the few non-giant robot kits and was issued in an off-scale compared to the rest of the series.

It is a neat 6-wheeled ATV that has a large cannon on top and two 4-shot rocket pods. Nimble enough to avoid Godzilla's blasts but has a big enough blast to make him look for easier prey.

Sorry to disappoint you Waikong but the Tamiya kit I'm doing is actually a T26E3 (forerunner to the M26 Pershing) regardless of what the box says.  I'm doing the build as a vehicle from the 3AD operating in Cologne 1945.

Cheers

Telsono, welcome to the GB, I've updated the list with your build.

Prometheum5, can't wait to see some pictures. I'm all fired up with dioramas after getting the latest issue of Tamiya Model Magazine International, it has a great King Tiger dio on the cover.

Thank you Waikong,

I was thinking of building the Universal Carrier as a captured one used by the Luftwaffe as a bomb tug. Here's a reference picture. It looks like it might have been repainted in Panzer grey or still in the original dark green, but worn down, its hard to tell. My other choice is a British vehicle used in NW Europe in 1944-45 decked out in the Verlinden extra stowage set. Maybe I'll do both as I have two kits in stash.

A captured UC in Panzer gray would definitely be something different!

Well, I rushed snapped some photos after spending a few hours cleaning up a resin kit and they didn't come out too well, so I'm going to try again either tomorrow or on Sunday when I have a little more time...

Hey, thats looks good. I especially like the guys with the beards - their uniform seems a bit too shiny though, or is that just a lighting issue? The dented side skirts are great - I presume they are PE? They really help give that Grubby and used look to your build.

Hi all,

I've started my project.

I'll try to reproduce ( quite )  the same TD:

BTW, where's the other guy who's gonna do the same kit  ?

Thanks for the comments.... any shinyness is a lighting issue I promise... Everything's been hit with dullcoat and then a brushed on coat of matte medium to add to the uneven grundgy feel... it's just from the flash.  I'm still working on the diorama part.. got the other figures all built, but not primed or anything and just the penciled on layout for the base itself.

I started work on the kit (Universal Carrier). After washing the trees, I examined the parts closely and found where my first cleanup work. There is a mold line the follows down the middle of the tracks lengthwise. So the first night was spent, trying to remove this line. Do all of the Tamiya 1/48 AFV's have this problem?

One of the questions I have had on this build is:

"Was all of the original paint covered over?"

To this I have decided that the original paint (British Bronze Green) would remain in the driver's compartment and the rest of the vehicle will be in panzer grey. I just do not think that they would go to the exent of masking the controls and dials and removing the seats to re-paint the vehicle. Instead a simple covering over this section while the rest of the vehicle was painted would be an expedient measure. Anyone have any other information contrary to this?

Mike
