Haha, true that.

I didn't even need putty for that joint. It worked out perfect Cool

Thanks for the kind words!

TOW CABLE

Decided to use the string for the tow cable. I'll also need this for the upper bridge mechanism that is all speculated anyway. After I applied primer and paint on them, the stray strands behaved nicely.

This part was a tricky assembly.

TRACKS

The tracks are weathering up nicely.

Glad to see that "gap" didn't pose a huge problem. Your tow cables are spot on and I like those tracks look nice.

Thanks, Disastermaster !

I guess anyone who builds this kit is going to have a unique end result because there is so little ref material to go on.

More done last night and this morning:

Decals

Chose the Soviet version options.

Brushed on Future on the decal locations.

They went on fine and after weathering is complete will look great.

Which brings us to painting and weathering this thing.

I started with a base coat of red primer sprayed from a can, then heavy washes of hobby brand acrylics, 3 coats.

This is where I'm at with it now.

I still need the run cable though the upper bridge mechanism and paint it too Indifferent

Excellent work so far Yes  Will make quit a sight once the bridge is on!  Never heard of painting by just heavy washes, I like the effect it gives.  Will be watching for more on this one.

Haha, yeah I put the bridge on every once in a while to look at it and it's gonna look cool.

I've only done this paint technique once before and it was also on another russian armor subject. I was overseas the first time and didn't have an air brush or any of my stuff for that matter. I went to a LHS and purchased a few acrylic hobby paints, then a general store for cheap brushes and alcohol and a can of spray primer.

I thought that I would run out of the single color bottle of paint so I thinned it with the alcohol, resulting in making a sort of heavy wash mix. Then brushed it on, let dry, brushed another layer, let dry, etc. The red primer would still be visible under each coat a little less each time so I stopped when it looked good.

Guess it's sort of like taking the conventional approach to model armor painting and turning it up side down and doing it in reverse, sort of Huh?

Then final weathering follows.

Thanks for looking in and the kind words...

Ok, got some dirt underneath by mixing artist pastels, ground down into sandpaper, and hobby acrylic.

Still working on weathering... more to come ...

Hey deafpanzer, thanks for looking in. I have these colors. How and where should I apply this? As washes? Did the Soviet armor in WWII look more brown than this? I don't know because most of the pictures I search and find are B/W.

During assembly of the two bridge arms, I broke one of the wheels off. It's currently in a nose up position while the CA glue cures.

Now I know what those pegs are on the upper hull structure. They support the bridge arm things.

S1... missed this thread entirely.  Caught up on all the pages and looks good at all the steps.  I would have busted those trusses with my meat hook hands.  Lookin' good.

Haha... Big Smile thanks for looking in.

That bridge assembly wasn't as bad as it looks. It [the kit] was designed well and went together pretty easily.

The headlamps are in too.

This was done with foil and lenses that I found in my spare parts box.

First, I cut to approximate size and shape.

Then cuts all around for flexibility into the bezel.

Insert these into the bezels carefully with shiny side out 'glued' in with Future. Let set for 30 minutes.

Found these lenses in the spare parts box that fit perfectly into the bezels. Approx. 4mm diameter.

I still do not know what kit this clear sprue came out of ... anyone know?

Carefully inserted into bezel and 'glued' in with Future.

Those are KILLER headlights!

Maybe it's the glare but that view-slit on the hatch needs some depth.

Glass? I'd say - not in a russian tank! Glass only causes problems and is too expensive.

Amazing project exhibiting a great deal of skill!  The subject isn't really mine, but I've picked up some great modeling techniques by watching your WIP.  Truely a great result!!!  I think I hate you.
