K-dawg

Somewhere between all the emocations and smileys there seems to be a good model being built... Good luck with your E2! That Tasca kit sitting over on my shelf sure does look like a lot less work but probably not as gratifying! :)

Thanks K-dawg....

The smileys are to keep it entertaining. What the heck...... this will probably be the only WIP I'll ever do anyhow.

Hope this gets http://i717.photobucket.com/albums/ww173/prestonjjrtr/Smileys/alien28.gif

                your E2 calling to you.

http://th103.photobucket.com/albums/m155/brianc712/th_smiley_030.gif ..... or just find yourself a LARGE penny to put with it in the picture.

Hey!! I got one of those...

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y269/wing_nut_5o/bigpenny-1.jpg

OK, now the secret is out. That thing must weigh a ton.

If you use that penny to measure your tire tread; well, I just marvel about how big your tires must be.

(I know what's really on the other side of that penny, http://th23.photobucket.com/albums/b371/K0modoDragon/Smileys/th_snigger.gif I can see the reflection in your glasses)

I also appreciate your support in the humor as well as any critique you offer....... Thanks.

Bout time that penny was revealed for all it is....cool.

Thanks guys for adding a great bit of humor to a dull saturday evening.

Terry.

That's part of what this thread is about Terry..... just chillin' out and enjoying the time we have. Glad 'ya diggin' it.

I'm planning an update for Sunday.

It's great to hear from you guys!

Looks like it's well past time for another update so I'm back again this early Sunday morning with some pictures of the
various parts and pieces that’ll be involved for the completion of this build.

Why red? Why not blue? Why any color?

It's red because a lot of the items have some color this time; besides..... it's just different ain't it?

A chain from the local “Dollar Tree” before priming …..

and after priming with rattlecan flat black

Followed by some light and irregular passes with (all flat finish, spray enamels to this point) some brown and rust primer colors, followed by a water & soap mix of buff or sand. Do the highlights with a #2 pencil and pull 'em between your fingers a few times to burnish the high spots.

Here’s one  of the tiny chains I made from very fine copper wire;

http://th302.photobucket.com/albums/nn116/imagoodone4sure/smileys/th_goodbaby.gif this is one of the larger ones btw.

And I then attached it to the main gun support... which I had been using to get my brush wet.....

The smaller chains will be for the fuel caps..........

And some hand formed attachment points made from sprue.

And here are three (in order of manufacture) pictures of the copper cable that I hand twisted and soldered together.

Scotchbrighted and with some early paint………

And lastly, one of the roughly unfinished cable shackles I made up also.
(a bit 'o scotchbrite will smooth this out too)

       http://flashgordon.ws/_themes/pvmetal/divider.gif

Well (as you probably have figured out by now)
I’ve been doing a bit of work in the painting department.
I usually start painting on accessories and tracks to get myself warmed up for the main event.

Here are some various pictures of what I’ve finished……….
       or nearly finished.

Under direct indoor light to show detail and highlights.

The axe was non-issue. I thought it would be interesting to display it as a replacement from a local barn.

And how they’ll look once attached to the tank.
The steel bar at the bottom will be corrected after being installed in place.

Some heavily weathered crates & discarded planks picked up on the way....

Another beat up crate and a sleeping bag http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p258/69Bronc/Smileys/brownbag.gif

Another beat up and water soaked crate filled with a oily, rusty chain , some junk and a liberated oil can.

Might not get all of this stuff on the tank but at least I got it on the screen for you to see.

Gotta go ...........

Mr. Master,
this is my favorite thread ever on FSM.
You should ask them for a contract, this is personal, educating and great fun at the same time.
I think that is exactly what they think they sell :)

Thank You for your effort!

            Tonight , as promised...................

                                     http://ak.webfetti.com/assets/3dani/1/563.gif

Next I’ll be doing the tracks ……

so get a grip, hold on and enjoy the ride.

                                    http://www.armymilitarymanuals.com/eyes-02-june_ynnl.gif

First off  flood  coat the connective area with some white glue .....
   let ‘em dry thoroughly
hotbefore proceeding.

There sunbath_smileys are some areas that have a bit of flash but don’t sweat it.
These tracks are REALLY nice.... DS tracks.

Just lay ‘em on a flat surface or whatever suits you and proceed
about 2 or 3 links at a time with laquer  thinner and a ruff stiff
   short bristled brush, j
ust the tops of the rubber cleats.

   soldier_smiley7Coat three……work one, move forward one link-repeat.

soldier_smiley7Coat three……work one, move forward one link-repeat and so on...

( coat three,  Xxx work the first one - coat three Xxxx then
work the next one XXxxx and so on...... follow the pattern
.....XXXxxx......XXXXxxx  four done - three coated - this gives
the thinner time to soften but not re-harden the plastic so
        you can impress it)

http://th108.photobucket.com/albums/n16/MellaBellaJean/smileys/th_confused-18.gif   Confusing ain't it?

Don’t jab, jab, jab each link. Hold the brush firmly against
    the surface
with constant pressure for a couple of  seconds.
    The idea is to
IMPRINT the pattern. If the bristles are
     short enough
you’ll get this result.

embarrassed-smiley54 Now use some fingernail clippers, tweezers or just get creative
and chunk out some of the rubber links lightly.

        Okaaaaa....
  confused-smiley

I’ve just gotta do some paint. It’s killin’ me.
         Track painting gets me
handreiber warmed up
         for the overall paint job.

Here it is airbrushed with some thinned Tamiya Flat Earth
         XF-52
(now you can better see the gouges in the  rubber track surface)

The duckbills and end connectors are brushed in (just keep the
paint constantly shook up) with MM Stainless  Steel buffing
metalizer (you need that acrylic coat first).

Are 'ya putting all this together in your mind yet?

Here’s the other side.pants smiley, down smiley, pants smiley, butt smiley, joke smiley

Below, on the right, paint the tops of the track surfaces flat black……
        shade doesn’t matter here.

Looking down on the right again, paint the back (wheel contact area)
         black too (as shown previously).

Now a little help with a wash comprised of pastels, water, a little
bit ‘o soap and a pencil.

Using a silver pencil to highlight track wear on the metal parts.

kickedoutsmile.gif
The results…………

         Adding of the mud…..

And then some mud with chopped up static grass.

smilie_happy_053  Howzit Look??

Hiya Steve  :  )

I was waiting for everybody else to chime in on the tracks and tell ya how good they looked etc..etc and how innovativlely you handled 'em...

well,I am sure you know what you are going for,Bro', but I don't get the way you painted em...the inside looks great, ,but, I would've painted the outside the same way before starting any weathering.

that is to say that the chevron blocks look weird to me not being black ..... there I said it..whew...

I guess it is just how we paint different ways.. you are going for how it will look, I have to paint stuff how they do look first, and then make em look like you like later.......

well I feel better.. just gave myself therapy  :  )   .... also about the redness.. aw we'll go over that later

your friend.

I've been away for a short spell,,, but have returned to view - - - - - Steve, great work!

I have to say,,  we modelers are always looking for tweaks and ideas for improving our skill-sets. There is no doubt that you have provided a bountiful suppy of choices to those who has followed this thread. That includes me too.

I'll be continuing to watch the build and, as always, bank any other tweaks you happen to mention.

Again, great work!

Enjoy the ride!

Hey Steve, It's been a whileWaiting since I've been a pain in the ***. You continue to spew out some of the best work that I have ever seen, I think I'm gonna cryCrying Into Tissue. I've been waiting patiently for a Disaster fix, can ya give me one?Chill Pill Just main-line it! I'm still on my K-V 2 and as soon as I'm done the M4A4 is next (with some very good ideas from you). So lets get the lead out and GIVE ME MY FIX!

You are the man!

In all seriousness, Thanks

The most innovative method I've ever seen on manipulating those DS tracks. Just goes to show that a modeller does not have to run out and buy every after market product to get professional results. Might bee the only WIP you ever do Steve but it will be lodged in the minds of a lot of people for a long time.

Terry.

Probably no one's  noticed ..........
but I took me a
break from the internet and the forum this past weekend (actually since last Thursday).

I need to DO more and type less and well, just do some everyday things around the house here a little differently.......
    I ain't gettin' any younger......

But then again it's nice to come back to the forum almost 5 days later and see all the great responses and also be
surprised to see I'm still even on the first page   ....... thanks to all of you.

Hiya Steve  :  )
I was waiting for everybody else to chime in on the tracks and tell ya how good they looked etc..etc and how innovativlely you handled 'em...
well,I am sure you know what you are going for, Bro', but I don't get the way you painted em...the inside looks great,  but, I would've painted the outside the same way before starting any weathering.
that is to say that the chevron blocks look weird to me not being black ..... there I said it..whew...
I guess it is just how we paint different ways.. you are going for how it will look, I have to paint stuff how they do look first, and then make em look like you like later.......
well I feel better.. just gave myself therapy  :  )   .... also about the redness.. aw we'll go over that later
your friend.

From your armored co-conspirator:

Hmmm,  gave yourself some therapy, huh ..... Eyebrow
Muscle 2 Animation.....feelin' better being all stretched out now eh?
the redness......  it'll go away naturally, if you leave it alone.

Now, if you're a talkin' about the tracks.......
.... again, don't worry - I'm still workin' with that.

This is gonna be done up with red mud and it'll be toned down accordingly.
The end will justify the means in this case.

Next post coming soon.....

And NEXT on the agenda..........

Bodge
It looks rubbish Steve, throw it in the bin and start again. Or to put it another way
Brilliant mate love it Big Smile

 Thank you Andy

 A-ha!
I'm trying to put some ideas out there to give people a better sense of accomplishment for when they build a model......  might save others a lot of sleep.
 Cover Up
It's nice when you do something different and people want to know where you got this or that part and you say, "I made it".
Now I'm gonna get back to trashin' this subject a bit more.....
