I have a soft spot for most US made tanks... But tops would have to be the most successful and butt kicking tank of US origin... the M1 Abrams...

The most beautiful tank (if such a thing can ever truly exist) ever made:

German WW2 Jagdpanther.

M1 Abrams...it has the looks and can back em up :P

I've always been partial to Russian T-34's.

For some reason I just love the brute-strength look of the Leopard 2A4 with its big, boxy turret. But the Jagdpanther is also a pretty sweet ride...I'm also partial to that big lummox, the Jagdtiger. That was the tank that first impressed me so when I saw it at Aberdeen in the mid-80s, and I said "I gotta have one of those...in model form, natch..."!

The good old M4 Sherman, wasn't the biggest or best but it kept going in any conditions. And it contributed largely to winning the Second World War and Korea and was used right up into the '80s (maybe latter). 

And a lot of recent debunking of it being some sort of death trap by people like Steven Zaloga has been coming out recently. 

Though if you mean AFVs in general I might have to go with the M18 Hellcat- it's just a sexy AFV!

  I guess it would be three of them .The Sturmgeshutz- Iv and then the Patton M48- A-1 followed by the Abrams A-1 .

late model PZ-III,E and above. i have no idea why. i do like the look of the LEOPOLD 2A4 which is why i have a couple in the stash. and probably IDF CENTURIONS '67 and later. but i'm really more a modern wheeled AFV guy.

My favorite (not actually a tank, to be armor-correct) would be the Jagdtiger.   It's just got a brutal, powerful look to it (even more than most tanks do).

Got to be the M1A1 Abrams Main Battle Tank. Since that is the type I spent the majority of my time on during my 6 year stint in the Army.

But I'm not sure I have one that is my favorite to build a model of. I pretty much love them all!

modern:  my favorite is Merkava (any version) because it made for saving crew. i mean engine in the front like additional protection for crew and it's realy saved many lifes in Israil wars.

WW2: early version of T-34 (it's more interesting for modellers than late) and Sherman (because it was everywhere: in Ostfront, in Europe, in Africa, Pacific islands and interesting for modeller because of many versions of it)

Wow. I'm going to formally split the answer into two segments, as I see happening a bit:

Favorite to model: M26, specifically the Tamiya kit.

Favorite actual tank: Magach6B-Gal

That was hard to narrow down, mainly because I like LOTS of different tanks, and kits of tanks. It's kind of like asking what variety of red wine I like best.....  :)

WWII:

Cold war:

T62

Modern:

M1 Abrams, T90.

But the killer tank all times is the Tiger T1 - not sure why, but I have 8 in the stash right now...

For a T.D., it's got to be the M18 Hellcat.  Just a speedy, sexy beast.

As a few have already mentioned...the Panzer IV. Specifically the later models with the added turret armor. Even as a young kid years ago I liked the lines on that tank the best.

King Tiger with the Porsche turret, or the Panther A and G.

For me--if I have to narrow it down to a handful, I'd say:

WWII:

Hetzer, Jagdpanther, Stug III

Post-WWII to Modern:

M60, T55, T90, M1 Abrams, and the Merkava Mk III.

I tend to go for tanks that have that "dangerous-don't-mess-with-me" look. Tanks that look mean just sitting there (especially that Merkava), yet offer a variety of fun painting options and can easily take What-If paint schemes.
