Monogram Satellite FINISHED!

Karl, that is one awesome looking Satellite!  Great detailing on the interior.  I rebuilt my '71 Satellite and used the engine and trans from the '70 Roadrunner in it as I needed the Satellite's engine and trans for a '70 Roadrunner project that I had in mind.  Here's the end result of my Satellite.

You've got the perfect interior, perfect engine bay and the perfect shine to this is about all I can muster up right now. True mastery of the hobby is being displayed right here folks. Mastery I say! Super slick mod to the door interiors.

 

 

 

Well, I am pleased to show off the finished build. I have to say that I'm stoked that this car is finally in my "garage". I've wanted to build this variant for a while now.

In the interior, everything came out pretty cool...

The wood was painted with craft acrylics.

And the finished model. I didn't go crazy detailing the engine as the hood is REALLY delicate! Nice thing about it being resin though--I heated it with a hair dryer and it settled right down into the body without any "lift" at all. The distributor was wired, but that's about all I did extra. The bottom was drybrushed a bit to show age....The wheels are mounted on doglegs made of plastic. Otherwise they don't line up in the wheel wells. I think the stance came out pretty well, too. The stock suspension won't give you this rake. The antenna is a guitar string. The front badge is scrachbuilt--the red white and blue bar. Enjoy!

Those super cool colors that Dodge had for their cars (Plum Crazy was always my favorite) was something that AMC copied and in some cases (few) took to the next level. The colors available in that era were amazing!

My favorites were Plum Crazy Purple(Dodge), Grabber Blue (Ford), Sublime (Dodge), and Big Bad Orange (AMC).

To see a '68 AMX in one of those colors was just a sight to behold. AMC copied all of those colors. My Uncle has had one (and several at one time - He LOVES '68-'69 AMX's) so I've seen a lot of colors on those cars. Been to MOPAR shows and Good Guy's meets since I was 12.

It never ocurred to me that I could modify cars like I do planes or armor... and I'm not sure why that is.

That Sherwood Green is gorgeous! Love the Vinyl top! I also love the way you shade the interior panelling and seats! I know now, what I have to do with my next car build! Between you and Mustang, I've got a lot of inspiration !! LOL  :)

 

This is my first attempt at modifying an interior in such a way. I really didn't know if it would work. The most daunting aspect of it is that the original tub walls are slightly bowed out, to meet the walls of the body. I dind't know this until after I changed it. I had to carefully bend the whole affair out in the middle slightly to meet the body walls. Still not sure exactly how it's going to look or fit when I get the windows glued in. Keeping my fingers crossed on that though.. I'll make it work somehow.

It's amazing how many variations of this car you can make. I have three more in my stash. I plan to do a 1972 version of the RR, and another Satellite and one more RR with a whole vinyl top. So many cool color possibilities too. Gotta love those bright MOPAR colors of the 70s!

  if I remember correctly the first 66 Charger was an M.P.C. release . Then I.M.C. ? and then  it just floated and came back as a Polar Lights or Moebius kit , I Think ! Don't qoute me on that though !  T.B.

Engine color looks great as well as the body color and finish Karl. I'm not understanding the painting of the flocking yet. I have used flocking for all my carpeting but not painted it. Can you shed some light on that?

 

Usually I use embossing powder for my "carpeting", but I had this tan flocking for the longest time, and wanted a tan carpet in there so I used this. I stopped using flocking because I think it looks too "fluffy". EMbossing powder is much more in scale. Here's a pic of my Road Runner interior with embossing powder.

So I used the flocking but it was artificial in its color, so I used a bit of Tamiya Buff mixed with Neutral Gray and diluted it maybe 20% and then carefully, slowly laid a paint brush over each successive section, letting the paint more or less flow by capillary action into the flocking. The edges were very carefully painted with thin paint, sometimes going over it twice to get a nice line.I don't recommend painting flocking ordinarily though; embossing powder is very easy to paint.

Engine color looks great as well as the body color and finish Karl. I'm not understanding the painting of the flocking yet. I have used flocking for all my carpeting but not painted it. Can you shed some light on that?

Got some paint down: here's the stock engine color for the B engines; the smaller V8s; it's like a turquise color. I mixed it from Tamiya Sky Blue + Neutral Gray + Green.

The exterior color is MCW (Model Car World) Sherwood Green lacquer. This is without any polishing at all.

Here's with the vinyl painted...

The interior was painted in Tamiya acrylic. To match the color, I used Black-Green, then highlighted with a little Buff. That's tan flocking, not yet painted...

After a second look, I took some NATO Green and added another highlight to provide some scale effect. I also painted the "carpet" in Buff. You can't really see it,  but I then "sun-faded" the dash top, reaer window valance and seat tops a bit.

First coat of the wood parts. This will be improved tomorrow..

AMAZING WORK (!!!) As always Karl! I've noticed you're doing planes, cars more than armor lately, which is where I first saw your work. I currently have on the bench 1/48 Cessna 172 (gift for friend nearly done) 1/25 1978 ford pickup nearing completion, and just started 4 more all at the same time: Tamiya Tiger 1 mid production (my first tiger) Tamiya panzer kampfwagen Aus F/g, P-40N tomahawk (1/48) AND a (Johan maybe?) 1966 charger! I primed all of those kits together at once so I wouldn't have to do it again for a while!    I shall continue to do my best to one day be as good as you. My friend's dad has a 71RR, it's red with white stripes instead of the black ones on your model. I'll see if I can dig up a pic, they recently moved to N.C. (From here in Detroit area)

I'll nver undrstand how anyone can have that many models going at one time. I lose parts, forget to do certain steps, and generally can't dedicate my resources and attention to any one model out of that many. But whatever works for you. Thanks for your comments on my build here.
