Ok, now back to Tir Firness... (on my far more reliable desktop) I did a bunch of research on my U-boat builds a couple years ago, and I do recall reading about that stuff. Basicly it was a Black Pine Pitch IIRC, applied to the external wood surfaces on U-boats as a weatherproofing sealant. It would weather to a dark brown over time due to wear and the elements, from what I read. Now looking at the photos of S-Boats that makes sense more than Bronco's color guide. I was going more for a weathered teak look like on larger ships, I did not research the wood portions of S-Boat colors and was pretty much following the box painting guide (shame on me, they show a light gray hull color as opposed to Schnellboot Weiss), and the B&W photos show the wood ares to be very dark, almost indistiguishable from the dark gray painted portions. A few washes during the final weathering phases should get me a darker look. Thanks for the heads up.
