As of right now I will only be building one of the models from that set. Cant decide which one yet, both seem to have their challanges.

Count me in for sure! My Grandpa was a naval engineer at Pearl when it was attacked. His first assignment before the attack? Requisitioning Bowling Balls. He was put in command of the demolition operation in case of an Invasion. After the attack he was one of the men in charge of getting survivors out of the water.

I'm not sure what I'm going to build yet, I'm typically an armor and dio guy, so we'll see what I come up with.

You missed the fiasco this weekend, RRB. What ever you do, DO NOT respond to this guy. He's trying to stir up trouble.

May I disturb the quiet a little, then, and join the build with a Trumpeter 1/700 USS New Orleans, CA-32?  She was at Pearl during the attack, and survived the war.

Aye, aye!  Technically, she's a ship; a boat is something small enough to be carried on a ship--I think.  Primarily, I build aircraft, so my naval terminology is weak.

Thanks for the welcome.

Nice to see the navy represented!

If I can find this photo of my Grandpa standing in front of his Pearl beach house, I think I may do a dio based on it. Which would mean a lot of scratch building...Yes

USS New Orleans was a heavy cruiser.  She had been a light cruiser, but was redesignated at some point.  I haven't found out which one the Navy considered her at Pearl.  Because of this, her designation changed from CL-32 (light cruiser) to CA-32 (heavy cruiser).

Her after-action report from 7 December, 1941 can be found here:

http://www.history.navy.mil/docs/wwii/pearl/ph60.htm

And maybe she was a boat after all.  Appears her nickname was "the NO boat!"  She was scrapped in 1961.

On another issue, who manufactured the P-40B you're building?  Academy had one out years ago, but It wasn't real good.  I built it, but didn't keep it.  I've heard Airfix is releasing a new mold.  Is that what you got?

Always liked the Flying Tigers, too.

Did you solve the camouflage problem for your Hurricane?  I found the original jpgs I used for mine, if they'd be of any help to you.

Thanks, General; I did notice that Navy vessels were in short supply for the build so far.

Did your Grandpa have his beach house there at the time of the attack?  That would make a cool diorama.

Question - what about the other locales attacked simultaneously? Specifically Wake?

I'm planning to build Trumpy's 1/32 F4F-3 as one of the four Wake Island Wildcats that survived the initial Japanese strike on Dec. 7.

Or is this strictly Pearl?

On the Bench: 1/32 Trumpeter P-47 | 1/32 Hasegawa Bf 109G | 1/144 Eduard MiG-21MF x2

On Deck:  1/350 HMS Dreadnought

any plane that was in the hangers (eg. SBD) or flying (eg. p40b, p36) will be accepted. If the wildcats were not at pearl harbour or on thier way like those B-17's, then its a no-go. sorry.
