The smileys don't bother me........ if you like adding them, have at it. If you don't like viewing them, don't view.

[To me] it's that simple.

Your point is well taken about using them, which we can all decide to do or not do, but I think the original question is whether the forum has functionality, such as a profile setting, that would allow each user decide to switch them on or off as a default.  Other forums are built with software and pages that offer that kind of functionality.

For the record, I use them sometimes, and seeing emoticons in forum posts doesn't bother me.  It does bother me to see them in business communications.  It tells me that the people I'm dealing with are dingbats, the kind of people who call a support line to say that the cup holder on their PC is broken.

Best regards,

Brad

Gentlemen:

After having read through this topic's four+ pages, and having read all the replies from the "Manni-acs" (roughly equal to "Trekies", although Trekies are far less disturbing), and taken the time to actually post in this thread,  I've come to the conclusion that there're now eight minutes of my life gone that I'll never get back...

Thanks for dropping in, Hammer!!!  You earn a "Cat-Head" for that astute and entertaining snippet...Looking forward to wasting more of your time in the future...

Is there a way to shut off all those smiley faces etc or at least block out the (ab)users? Really getting annoying to try and read through what could otherwise be an interesting topic.

My brains reads this...

Is there a way to shut off all those 229 references or at least block out the (ab)users? Really getting annoying to try and read through what could otherwise be an interesting forum.

Do we need to get the opinion of a veterinarian to know that horse is dead.

...'e says e's not dead yet...

I thought the 229 infestation (of which I am indeed a part of Whistling) had mostly confined itself to "the thread", as well as an actual GB thread?

Keep them. They are the only thing to convey an emotion. Sometimes words don't tell the story.

Now why is that disgraceful?

And just to prove tigers point, my first post here was meant to be a touch of light hearted humour, but because i didn't include a smiley, it can easily be taken the wrong way.

I do agree with the original post in that sometimes they can be over used. But when i see a post loaded with the. i just skip past it. So i say keep them.
