I started with plastics. Then finally moved up to RC in the mid to late 80s. Another detective that was in my unit tought me all about RC and successfully got me to solo and land using a Sureflite 54" foam Cessna high wing powered by an  OS .20 glow. Then I moved up to larger planes and eventually to 1/4 scale. I built a Bud Nosen 1/4 scale Citabria with a G24 up front about 1988 and still have it today. Your husband should have a good idea of what I'm describing.

However I kept coming back to plastics every time.

RC is very unique and personal. The hobby has come a long way since the 1980s. My only beef is when "accidents" happen and great flying models are destroyed. I guess it's part of the hobby.

Why didn't I see this thread before? A lighted C130, love it! I do keep my models in glass display cases though, dust, and the fact that I would probably break 1/2 of them within a month if they were out in the open.

Keyda81, I think it would be great to have a signficant other who enjoyed the same hobby. Face to face benches. Exchange of ideas, and praise of each others work, would lead to some really nice work. I'm sure it could be tough at times, different opinions from time to time, but still nice builds. Aardvark

It would be nice.  But then the house would fill up twice as fast with models, lol.  Hubby doesn't quite understand why I enjoy it so much, he told me once if he spent all that time building something he would rather be able to fly it.  Hence the reason he builds R/C stuff!  He had me put together an F-16, but we haven't had a chance to get out and try to fly it yet.

This post has been a blast to follow, and no, you do not have a problem. You can decorate my house anytime you want. I really like your 130's.

If my cats are looking at anything on the wall, it's some sort of bug.  Maybe it's because they are 10 yrs old they just never pay any mind to my models.  Now feathers dangling from my dream catchers are another story.  Big Smile

Hi Keyda 81 :

That's alright . If I tried to remember all the companies who do the ships I have , I would crash and burn . I was fascinated by the Harrier . There was a twin office bird that came to Little Rock airport for an Airshow .

My company was asked ( invited ! to send a V.I.P. for a flight . No one took it . ) finally it got down to " Look We arranged for fuel for so many V.I.P. flights  , Who have you got ? "

Lowly old me . Instrument and cockpit repair dept , Installation Supervisor , Not considered a V.I.P. in Arkansas at that time . Got the nod . I would've boarded that Bird without a flight suit , believe me ! WOW !! we danced to the Vienna Waltz ! 200 feet off the ground in front of the crowd , after a fly around . Geeeez ! I have never forgotten that !

My first wife , now , after seeing a 1/144 bombed up version on my bench said it looked like a " Mad Mosquito " . You Know I finally realized what I miss most in life .Two fine Ladies who loved my hobby along with me .

The wall method works great for most . Now I have found The best height for mine , are near the ceiling . My Siamese gets a bug in her butt and tries to attack them . Sometimes she'll try for almost and hour before giving up . She will watch them sometimes for hours . I guess she thinks they are " Birds " of the variety she's supposed to eat ? LOL .LOL .  T.B.

Currently working an a A-7 Corsair to display next to the Fury.  I felt like I needed more than one Navy plane.

One Navy plane!!!! OMG you need several F-14s and F-4s. The Navy has so many colorful schemes that it's hard to have only one or two.Wink

I do have an F-4, but it's not a Navy version.  They are my favorite jet, so I'll probably do a few more versions of them, I'll make sure I have one to represent the Navy.  I'll add an F-14 to the collection some day as well.  My wish list remains bigger than my stash, and completed models, lol.

I'll never understand hiding them away either.  Not too many people that come to my house even look at them, lol.  But I at least sit here and enjoy looking at them.

Keyda, I see no problem here. It's your home and your passions should be displayed as you see it. I've always wondered why model builders hide away weeks or months of work never to be seen again but by them. I never defend my passions or my hobby nor should you. I started to show my passion related decor but didn't want to hijack your post so I'll try to post my ideas on the subject soon. Meanwhile enjoy yours!  Smile

Hello Keyda81;

I like the fact that you are using the wall method . I don't have a lot of display space ( I rent part of a private home ) So when it gets to much , in boxes they go to be given away .When my late wife was not my late wife , she Insisted that I display my work where folks could see them .That's hard in an R.V. !

When folks have hobbies and can share I think that's great .By the way , Which company did you go with on the Paper C-130 ?  T.B.

It was a free one I came across online, can't remember the website.

Yes, you have a problem.

What's with the stuffed toys...

Most of them are hubby's offerings when he wants to suck up for losing money at the casino, lol.  A few of them I've had since I was a kid.

Cadet Chuck

I had a HUGE 130 model, probably 1/32, that my son built when he was in high school.  He did a nice job, and I finished up the little things that were left when he went away to college.  Had it hanging in my home office for several years.  Then when he moved into a real house of his own, I carefully drove it 800 miles to give it back to him.  Next time I visited, I asked him where it was, and he casually said it "broke" and he threw it out!

KIDS!!!

Oh no!  Surprise.  That had to be one big model.  The 1/48 has nearly a 2 foot wing span.

Lol. This thread is awesome.

Answering your question though, I do see a problem.

As it was already said, you don't have enough display space. That is a serious problem.

Time to make an Ikea run for more shelves!

@goldhammer, I've read about that bird a few times.  Watched a program called Mighty planes: Heroic Hercules.  Had one of the men, and two women that were on board that flight.  The gentlemen actually went to school and now works for Lockheed Martin.  He decided that was what he was going to do because of that flight.

@BlackSheep, I have one in the stash, but it's the last C-130 I have at the moment.  I feel the need to keep at least one in the stash, and also I'd like more practice with painting before I tackle it.

You guys are making me jealous with your C-130 stories! Lol.

I don't see a problem. You still have more wall space! Very nice collection of completed birds. I have no problem...yet...since I just started, and don't have much to show. My wife approved floor to ceiling bookshelves in a spare room, so the book shelves in that room now will be moved to the basement for displaying completed models. Hope to have some display worthy completions soon.

Dwayne or Dman or just D.  All comments are welcome on my builds.

Icar can probably vouch for this one too, about as much fun as you can have as a spectator......Wait til you get a chance to see a live LAPES pass.  Low Altitude Parachute Extratation System....Come in almost touching the ground and pop a drag chute and out comes a pallet with equipment on it, slides to a stop in a cloud of dust.

I got to witness that once, right in front of me!

I was at Sherman Field in Ft. Leavenworth, about to back taxi a little Cessna 150, down the runway to take off. ATC came on (this was not normal, as it was not technically a towered airport), told me to hold short. I waited, waited, and waited some more. Then I saw the exhaust trail approaching, then I could make it out as a C-130 (AWESOME)...came across, just a couple feet off the runway, out popped a chute, then a crate on a pallet. Very cool!

Anyway....problem???

Nah, really isn't all that different than what I had going on, years ago. Living room, dining room, hallway, bedroom....anywhere I could get one! That "problem" dwindled as we progressed through bigger and better homes. Now, I have em all in my "war room" in the finished side of the basement. They're a bit crammed now, since I moved the band over to my place....amps and drums take up a lot of space!

Since you are into 130's, do some research into the gate bird at Little Rock.  It was the last one out of Vietnam, and you won't believe the last flight out of there.....The number of Vietnamese on board when they finally landed after getting lost and almost having the taknks go dry.  Absolutely amazing it even got off the ground, and how they had to close the ramp, and how many were in the cockpit.Huh?Wow

I've never witnessed that in person, I'm sure it's a sight to see.  I did get to tour one back in October, and it was great to be able to just wander around inside, take pictures, and touch it, lol.  I love going over near the base when they do their practices, touching the runway and taking back off.  I park right where they fly over before landing, so they fly right over my head.  I could stand there all day. Good job there.  You have many that my wife and I like.  She was a crewe chief on a Herk back at Little Rock when I met her and she loves the Harrier.  They used to send them to airshows a lot back then and while at Little Rock and Korat I got to see just what Herks could do.

This was my wife's ship:

Thank you!  The Herc's are by far my favorite!  Great pics!  I'm still on the hunt for some older pics of the Herc's that were stationed at our base back in the 80's.  I've found a few, but not enough to make out what decals I will need to make.
