Weird stuff for a former "dumb jock"

Not weird at all...just the opposite. All great things to do in life. I also love the outdoors...spend a lot of time hiking, backpacking, rafting and so on. I am more of a PS guy over Xbox...because of the hard drive issues from when Xbox came out. Plus I liked the controllers better from PS LOL.

 I used to do alot of sports. 100+ games of softball during the summer with a round or two of golf a week. B-ball and volleyball through the winter after lifting and cardio. Body finally said  "enough". Still play a little golf, real and disc. Still workout just with much, much lighter weights. Swim, bike, and hike. I like the outdoors. I read alot, fluctuating between murder mysteries and history books. And playing on my Xbox one....cooking and gardening. Weird stuff for a former "dumb jock"

Baratheon, You are not alone.  I do the same thing.  I wouldn't say it's a horrible habit though.  There could be worse things that learning about stuff.  I work with lots of guys that seem to have blinders on and they are seemingly unwilling to vary from their track.  I can't imagine that.  Variety is where it's at.  This thread is neat because we get to see how varied we all are.

BTW, my wife and I just made it through Star Trek TNG.  It was fun seeing those episodes again.  I think they still hold up.

Thank you for taking the time to reply to my thread. It has been great reading about everyone and their other interest. I really like the fact that most of us like to read,into history, music, r/c and outdoor activities. Those individuals that got/have your pilot's liscense, and owned a plane....absolutely cool

As I may have implied in other threads, I am into RC planes, sailing, and biking.  

I have also gotten back into playing with a local symphony as a drummer and percussionist.  Like other musician stories here, I played semi professionally and got burned out.  First pic on my 40 year old Ludwig 5 pc at a concert, and then next is a pic of a newly aquired session kit.  

 

That is a awesome collection of planes...I wish I would have given that a try during my R/C phase. I mostly worked on 1:5 gas off-road and trail rigs.

What a great thread.  It's amazing how creative people tend to share a lot of the same passions.  Like a lot of you I'm a musician.  Been playing guitar and piano/keyboards for 43 years.  Toshi, I loved your story!  A lot of it seemed  familiar to me, except my experiences all took place in the frozen wasteland of Minnesota.  hahaha...

Played in a lot of bands, primarily in the '90s, working a ton.  So much so that it finally burned me out and I stopped performing on stage in 1999.  I haven't played in a band since.  Now I just record my own music in my home studio.  Here's what the studio looks like:

In times of stress, like my current unemployment, this basement studio gets a lot of use.  It really helps me to relax.  I love experimenting with sounds and there are times when I can spend six hours "playing" with a sound and never record any of it.  But I always leave feeling wonderful.

A little bit of everything, to be honest. One day I might just be working my way through old episodes of Deep Space Nine, the next I may be reading in depth about psychoanalysis, and the day after that I might want to sit down and pick through my comics collection. I have a horrible habit of getting really into things only to burn myself out on them for a bit, but that means I end up knowing a lot about seemingly random things lol

Currently I'm really into scale modeling (of course), WWII history and photography. 

I dig that inner sanctum.  Bet your mind can really go go go in there.

Swimming, biking and running. Before the kids were born wife and I were serious competitors with me making it to the elite level in the province...but just. No more triathlons for us but we do go swimming, running and biking now and then.

Photographing cargo ships and sharing the photos on shipspotting website is my favorite thing now as i used to work on them. It is an eternal love for sea

Interesting and educational interest. The history of maps and charts would be something I'd like to take.

Started teaching at OLLI SOUTH in Colorado. i am currently preparing a class on Russian Civil War for spring semester and will reteach my Siege of Leningrad class in tyhe fall at EAST. will break my Eastern Front class into two 8 week courses and ooking at doing a class on WW1 Not the Western Front. As you can imagine this includes reading, learning some Russian, building period AFV models, and using board strategy wargames.

i also like jigsaw puzzles, especially informational ones; biking at the gym; cooking (i do probably 75% of cooking as my frau still works); reading some scifi and historical fiction.

This term i am taking classes in Mindfulness, Dinosaurs, How We Make Decisions, History of Maps and Charts, and History of Scifi literature.

Great job restoring that bike...it look outstanding. And, I must say very thrifty.

I like reading, listening to classical music, photography, and building R/C and plastic model airplanes.  I used to feel sick if I wasn't flying but in my 50's I got tired of being gone all the time and somehow I don't have that need anymore.  The thought of spending what it takes now to fly makes me shudder.  Lucky I got that out of my system!   And lucky to have been a pilot when what was probably the golden age of general aviation really was, from the 60's to the 90's.  I run an excavator and drive trucks once in a while, am treasurer of a couple of R/C clubs.  I should fly model airplanes more than I do, maybe I will this year.  I had a 65 Jag XKE fixed head coupe for 20 years, that was fun for a long time.  I spent many years in water well drilling and farming in a family business but airplanes are always where it has been at for me.  Last time I fired a gun was in the National Guard.

Ancient Roman coin.  I like collecting really old coins as it’s history is significant.

$5.00 gold coin piece.  Grading is AU53, either 74 or 76 are the highest grade so this 1880‘s gold coin is not too bad at all for its age.  

My other interests are table top gaming ( Malifaux, 40K, Saga, etc ), playing the guitar, reading, and building and setting up sets for my wife’s musicals. The rest of my interests will have to wait til I retire. I am also trying to figure out how to post pictures which may take me to retiremen.  

Reading everyone’s interests is a lot of fun.

You sir have lead an amazing life. To do and accomplish everything you have is such an immense accomplishment. I never truely had the bug...but I collect stamps for almost 4 years. Just learning the history of that one stamp was exciting. I am truely grateful that you and Mrs. Toshi are alive and well. Sorry to hear that you lost your cat. You are correct sir...this is going to be your year!! Thank you for sharing your story. And, as always I have truely enjoy all of your WiP's.
