I'vew always had trouble with glue onto paint & avoid it at all costs. Here's a look at the edges I'm dealing with, I'll post some 'after' shots in the Group Build page.

My PR 16 Mosquito has been put on hold for some time as thew PAragon Canopy I ordered is for the Airfix Mosquito. Bugger!

Carl I wouldn't say it’s died away, more like just very ill. Personally I will make an effort to get back here more often from now on.

The Oz Group Build seems to have died away so I'll post this question here. Has anybody figured a way to deal with showing plastic edges when using vac-form canopies. I've got a whole vac-form canopy & nose for the B-25 but the plastic edge it goes onto is quite thick (often fuse+a wall detail piece). I don't want to paint the plastic edge or I won't get adhesion but then I'l be left with a very visible raw edge on the inside due to the thinness of the vac-form. My only thought is to do a half stripe of paint on the plastic edge, anyone know a better way?

Daniel, the water trap on my compressor unscrews so that you can clean out the excess water. You'll probably find yours does the same.

I use a Paasche VL with a diaphragm compressor about 10 inches long. The clear plastic 'bulb' of my water trap unscrews so I can dry out the inside. There's enough room to fit a Silica Gel sachet between the bottom of the filter and the bleed screw at the bottom.

That's a good idea mate, might have to give it a go. I get a bit of spitting every now and then (usually if the compressor has been running for a fair while). I might have to go a find some Silica Gel. One question though, how do you get it into the water trap? I've never really had a close look at mine.

Andrew I know what you mean I used to get a lot of spitting with my old Aztek AB, but since I upgraded to the Iwata the problem has all but disappeared.

What sort of AB do you use btw?

Hey everyone!

I haven't been in this Forum for awhile. Work is progressing slowly but steadily on my 1/48 SPAD VII. Of course I picked the plane with five different colours in the camo scheme, so that took a while, masking and painting. If you haven't got an airbrush, get one. The more I've used mine the easier it becomes.

One thing I tried that requires further investigation: In the damp Melbourne weather my airbrush starts spitting water quite quickly, so I tried putting a sachet of Silica Gel in the bottom of the moisture trap/pressure regulator. It seemed to slow the rate of moisture buildup and therefore spitting. I've only tried it once but this could be of use to someone. (You get Silica Gel sachets in new shoes and leather goods etc.)

These days when it comes to a cockpit that's enclosed I don't get too desperate when it comes to detail, I try to imply detail rather than build it.
For an open cockpit I will go a bit further but only to the extent of what is seen.

One thing that I just don't understand is AFV modelers who detail full interiors for a tank that you can only glimpse 2% off once the vehicle is closed.

Speaking of lost detail, I just closed up the Mitchell body. Jeez, what a waste. Tempted to try to put some sort of little light on the inside just to get more value out of it.

Karl the RAAF trialed the Typhoon in the desert as a replacement for the Hurricane IIC. Although the trial was successful the RAAF decided against using the aircraft full time and went with the Spitfire Mk.VC instead.

Dave I know the feeling, there is nothing worse than sweating blood over a detailed cockpit only to loose all that wonderful detail when you close the thing up Evil [}:)]

My all time favourite piece of PE wool have to be those great pre-colored seatbelts, what did we do without them I wonder.

Carl, when you look at the histories of the RAAF SQNs in the ETO you will find a huge amount of different acft that were, at some stage, used or flown by the RAAF pilots. Whether or not they were official is another story. Clown [:o)]

Have a look at the ADF serial numbers website under 'other acft' and you will see them all there.

Darren, the PE does look good but when you close up the fueslage it all gets hidden away. This is a bit unfortunate considering the amount of swearing and work that it takes to get them there. This is the first time that i've used the pre painted PE and am almost tempted to use it for other acft I do as it looks quite good.

. I agree with you on PE, but the results look fantastic. Those pre-painted pieces are great as they turn out far better than I could ever produce by hand.

Mick, the belts are pre-painted Photo etch that come with the kit. The instrument panels are also pre-painted PE.

Good idea that one Carl, a few ooptions could be:

Hornet: 1
Magister: 1
Stinson Reliant: 2
De Havilland DH-83 Fox Moth: 4
CA-15: 1
Avro Lancaster: 2 (sort of)
B-29A Washington: 2

and the list could go on. If you upped it to counting on two hands you would then double the number to be modelled. But the fun would then be finding a kit of the subject! Big Smile [:D]

Darren, the RAAF had only one Magister which I suppose is why it is unheard of. There is also only one photo that I have seen of it in RAAF service. I have included a few photos of the model in progress. It has reminded me why I don't like PE as there are heaps of small fiddly bits to shape and stick on the model.

I have managed to get halfway through my two spitfires and have just received the 1/48 Special Hobby Miles Magister. The best part is that it has the markings for the sole RAAF version of it!!!! This makes life so much easier. I wil post photos when I have finisged it but it will also be an article on the Aussiemodeller site.
