                        I'm up for another Aussie/Anzac GB too fellas. I've got a 1/72 RAN Tracker conversion all lined up for it. It'll be a big job because the Hobbycraft kit is crap. Alot of scratchbuilding will be needed........Can't wait (I think?).

                        I am happy, I may manage to get back to models this week as I have a couple of days off this week!!! Time to get that 1/48 B-24 finished (finally). Now I just have to find the Catalina to sit next to it Big Smile [:D]

                        I agree with Sean, it's good to see you are still with us Wayne. I thought you might have moved on to greener pastures.

                        As for next years build I would put my vote in for an ANZAC build but either way Aussie or ANZAC I'll be in it.

I haven't done much modelling lately, decided to redesign my modelling room then found out that I would have to rework the garage so that I could build my new modelling workbench and display cabinet, still working on it.

                        8 months from start to finish. That's a record time for me lately.

                        I'll put up some pix in the aircraft forum when the sun comes out to justify some photography.

                        I have purchased paints from WEM in the UK, outstanding fast service and everything arrived in good nick. And the price was not far off what I would pay in the LHS for paints.
                        I have also just ordered a PE set for my 1/350 USS Essex, and it worked out $20 cheeper that to buy it from the local suppliers, and that is after postage and the currency exchange. So shop around and seen what sort of value you can get for your $.

                        P.S. I don't mind buying from local shops but I will not allow myself to be taken advantage of pricewise. If the local guys can compare with overseas then I will buy local, otherwise I let my fingers do the walking.

                        Welcome to the thread Richard. There is also the annual Australian Group build as well as this thread, the last one has completed and we are just waiting for the next one.

                        I have ordered items from England and other places on the odd occasion and usualy it's cheaper than buying from local importers. I usualy work out the costs and if its only a little cheaper I will buy it local to support the hobby shops.

I have been on the forum for a few months now and have just discovered this thread, its good to know that the hobby is still somewhat alive and well here in Aus. I have been back into modeling for a while now after a long break and am into 1/700 ships and 1/72, 1/48 aircraft ww2 and modern . I was wondering how you guys find buying models etc on the net from the many mail order companies, many of which are in the US. do you generally get good service, how do the prices compare with the exhange rate and postage etc ?? how much does it cost to bring a couple of models in to aus. or is it not worth it and do you just buy from the LHS?? any info ,suggestions would be appreciated!                         Dave I think that's a great idea, I have actually noticed a few of the group builds advertised for next year have extended timeframes of six months or so.

                        As for another GB well there are plenty on the go or starting up at the moment, you should check out the GB page. If it's next years Aussie or ANZAC GB you are talking about, I don't know what's happening. I haven't heard from South Aussie in ages, have you?

                        Is it time for another Group build yet? I think that seeing the number of ppl that didn't complete the last one in the time limit, why not make it an extended time frame so the busy folk can finish one in time? That way the prolific modelers can possibly build more than one kit.

                        Jules it sounds like you've got quite a good stash there for your $200 and I do agree that $40 is a bit rich for 1/72 figures (even if they are really good ones). Your right btw, those Eduard profi pak kits are great aren't they.

                        Andrew rigging is something that has always kept me away from biplane kits because it scares the cCensored [censored]p out of me, but I was thinking Eduard 1/48th Fokker D.VII OAW because it has almost no rigging at all.

                        Eduard Profipac Sopwith Triplane in 1/48 (Sweet kit BTW)
                        Eduard coloured PE set for my Gavia La-7 and Tamiya Me 262
                        6 1/72 gun crew figures by warrior for my U-Boat which i think was a bit of a rip job for $40:00
                        and a few decal sheets, mainly for Luftwaffe A/C
                        I spent a few hours there and sussed out all the models and came to the conclusion that i may stand a decent chance of taking home a trophy next year, not that i didn't think that the models were good they were fantastic, anyway i'll be entering my U-Boat and He219 for next years show............

                        Yeah, the 'default' C/D build is the gunship nose (this one is 'Dirty Dora' which is now out of production). A good thing about the kit is they give you all of the options, you get 3 or 4 canopy types, a few tail canopy types, both exhaust manifold types (albeit not accurate). I'm pretty sure all of the RAAF Mitchell's had a clear nose, although some had both the fixed & centre nose guns (30cal or 50cal??) while others, probably the fearliest ones, only had the bombardiers nose gun (30cal). I think they all had the 'Townsville Packs' on the sides (nice to have a bit named after my old home town).

                        The B-25C/D is the 1/48 ACM kit. Seats & bomb site are Verlinden but otherwise stock. I've hacked the combing off & later put Squadron vac-form on, which has a profile fix for the front of the windscreen area as well as the actual glasshouse(s).
