I have a question for the ones of you who have airbrushes. Where did you get your compressor and what type is it? And also how much did it cost? Thanks in advance.

I picked up my current compressor ( an Arlec Enforcer) at Kmart for about $100, been very happy with it, can also use it for other purposes. Before this a had used a Hobby style compressor with air tank that cost about $230, was not very happy with it, couldn't maintain require pressure on a large job.

Howdy All, My name is Mick, i'm in Sid-Knee, it's been about 20 odd years since i've built a kit, just the usual lack of time, access to a shop(spent quite a few years in a remote part of the Kimberleys in NW WA..) seems things have changed a bit in the feild of 1/35 AFV gear available...i remeber when (look out here comes G'pa....)when you had to scratch build anything that wasn't available in either factory kit form or from Mr Verlinden, now, what ever(most..)you wish to build is available, it's UNREAL!!.....anyway, a couple of questions, who supplies Aber in Oz?? and is any one building a 1/16 Tiger1 (static)?? going to have a go at some interior bits. I've picked up one of Dragons ZSU-23-4m kits and i'm going to town on that to get the eye back in, i've got the Eduard PE kit and a shirt load of Evergreen plas. i'll post some pics eventually, still deciding on counrty, Leb, Russia,Iraq or Syria....anyway gotta go( i'm on night shift...)looking forward to chatting etc to you all. Mick.

Hi Mick,

The best source of Aber (both price and service wise) has to be NKR Hobbies in Ballarat her in Vic.

http://www.nkrmodels.com.au/

I can't talk for other people in this forum, but I have always found the service is very quick and the postage is cheap (for once).

Cheers

Hi guys yesterday I went down to super cheap auto and got on of my birthday presences, an air compressor. It is 2hp and has a 21 litre tank, and it’s painted in a kind of John Deer green color. I am still waiting for my airbrush but that should be here soon. Thanks for the help in finding the compressor and super cheap auto, I would have never thought about going there.

Good to have you back in Australia Chris.

Hey Chris what is the legal drinking age in England? I know its 21 in the USA. I had kind of forgotten about that until I went back and i realized i couldn't order anything from the bar. Had been used to it being legal to drink here when you are 18.

hi all,

i have heared about the use of fine liners to increase the detail in panel lines. Does anybody know what is a good size to use on the panel lines in 1/24 scale cars? I Have tried 0.5mm but they are 2 large?

thanx trev

I don't what you would use for a 1/24 car if you're using a fine liner, but you would probably want to go for as thin as you can get, possibly 0.2 or 0.1 if you can find it.

Alternatively, you could give the panel lines a dark wash to accentuate them.

Cheers
Darren

Trev,

I agree with Darren, try a dark wash in the panel lines. I have found its easy to apply (and remove if something goes astray) and the effect is excellent.

j.s., be VERY careful with the wide Tamiya tape.

While I'm waiting for my Sabre to arrive for the group build, I've been building an A7D Corsair II, and used the wide Tamiya tape to mask off between the camo and underbelly.
As I removed the tape after painting, it pulled large chunks of paint away from the plastic.
I had washed the kit, and wiped it over with Iso to remove prints and grime etc, and had even applied a layer of Pledge to protect the paint, but the tape tore the whole lot off.

Now the thinner Tamiya tape has never been a problem for me.

So I use the thin tape to define my paint line etc, and if a larger area is needing covering, I use normal masking tape under the Tamiya tape.

When I say normal masking tape, I mean the cheapest and nastiest stuff you can find, the adhesive on this stuff is******poor, so it will barely attach itself to the paint, and comes off with ease.

Saves respraying.

Thanks for the heads-up on the wide Tamiya tape tweety. I've had no probs with the thin stuff and was going to grab a roll of the wide stuff but aI think I'll take your advice rather than suffer a re-spray. By the way, I feel better knowing you haven't started your Group Build project yet, I was starting to panic a bit as mine is still sitting in the box and time is flying by. This P-47 is turning into a marathon project, I am sooo slow.

Cheers...Snowy

Tweets thanks for the heads up mate...
Like Snowy and yourself I've had no problem with the thin Tamiya tape so i was going to buy the wide stuff based on that experience......
Maybe i should give Red Roo a call and score some of thier masking film....
I think the problem might be too much adhesive over a large portion of the model so i'll just cut all of the curved lines thinly and cover the centre with paper.
Anyway the Spitfire 8 has had another coat of brown followed by some gloss clear and it's ready for the masks again.....
Hopefully the Spit will be finished in a couple of weeks.(HOPEFULLY)

BTW i had a good look at the Highplanes Sabre conversion kit,dry fitted many parts and all that stuff and i can positively tell u that the wings and the intakes under the fueselage are going to taste like Censored [censored]!!!!!!!!
