G'day fellas, I decided to subscribe to FSM half way through last year and have received every issue since, about 1 month ahead of my local newsagents. It works out about $68 AUD and thats good value ( about $7 per issue) if you buy every issue anyway like I was doing. As a matter of fact I've had the Sept. issue with the cutaway Spit on it for about 2 weeks now and I don't reckon the newsagents will have them for another 2 weeks at least. Also if you subscribe it can only help make the mag stronger, better and more viable, as they are then pre-sold copies.

Cheers...Snowy

Ok Snowy you've sold me,not only are you getting it cheaper ( i pay $8:95 ) you're also getting it about 4 weeks ahead of me......
so i'll subscribe when i get a hold of the next issue....

i thought the fellas in the mustang Gb needed a little bit of Aussie in the Ranch
so i'm making the Tamiya kit with an Ultracast prop and spinner plus a Red Roo decal set for this A/C......

if any of you guys have any good references on this mustang your input would be much appreciated......J.S........

mgbriggs i don't have a credit card mate,so i'll have to send an international money order or something.....
My wife has a visa which i use to order bits and pieces from around Oz but only over the phone,we both agreed not to use the credit card online, hackers have already tried to get the details from her ebay account, they sent an email formated exactly the same as an ebay email and i mean exactly the same asking her to update her account details, they were obviously after the credit card details.SLYCensored [censored].

G'day J.S

The aircraft you are looking to model is a P-51K-10-NT Mustang IVa, serial A68-565. The aircraft was assigned to Squadron Leader J.A. Cox, 84 Sqn RAAF and was lost when it crashed on takeoff 02/08/45, at Bohle River QLD.

Almost forgot,

This is completley off topic but I have just picked up my copy of the Special Edition of Battle of Britain on DVD.

I love this film and have been waiting for this special edition with a DTS soundtrack for ages. Check out your local video retailer if you are interested.

Also, for internet purchases I have a credit card with the minimum limit that is not linked to any of my other accounts at all. I've been using it for a few years now and so far so goodWhistling [:-^]

Credit card purchases can be a bit hazardous.
I use one that is linked to a bank account, so when I order something, I transfer the money required first, then order my items.
Otherwise, it sits there empty till I need something.
It's credit, but different.

I have to ask, how on earth do you guys manage to get such detailed research on Aussie crafts???
I have tried and tried, but obviously I'm missing something.
Are there websites or books that deal mostly with Aussie craft and pilots??

Aussie Modellers Research
Posted by darson on Tuesday, August 17, 2004 6:21 AM
Tweety,

OK to be honest I got lucky on the Mustang, because I was able to read the serial number on the aircraft, from there it was a quick trip to http://www.adf-serials.com/ then into their RAAF Series II (WWII) section, then into Mustangs to find out some information about the aircraft (hopefully). Once you have the squadron or any other information you can do a general search in www.google.com.au and see what you find.

As a matter of fact here's a site with loads of other pics of 84 Squadron's Mustangs, including J.S's Mustang burning at the end of the runway. http://home.st.net.au/~dunn/84sqn.htm

This would be the CA27, as for serial numbers, now that I got the kit (it arrived today...........and is gonna be ALOT of work), I will use the adf site you gave me to look a little further into it.
Thanks again DarrenApprove [^]

Forgot to add, while I was in Darwin last month for volleyball titles, I went to the aviation museum and took a few pics of the Avon Sabre they have there, so if anyone wants some of them, drop me a line, and I'll mail a CD out to them.

Fellow Aussie modellers.....
Tweety1 and myself have been talking in the Aussie GB thread over the last couple of days about a unique Group Build idea we have for 2005....
The idea is to get a few of us aussie modellers together to build a Squadron lineup of 76SQDs CA27 Avon Sabres......
Once all the Sabres are finished we would take a series of photos of each, and using computer software Tweets will combine all the pics into one image creating a Sqd lineup.
We could also leave the undercarriage until last and tack down the canopies to create an inflight shot.......
Sooooo whaddya think guysQuestion [?].............

This is the highplanes conversion for the Acadamy or Hasegawa F86 Sabre...
The complete kit using the acadamy f86 cost $50:00au
box art is the 76SQD CA27 Sabre........

Well

This may be the excuse I have been looking for, to construct my 1:72 High Planes CAC Sabre. I will have the donor kit by then as well.

Count me in! Any timing on this for next year?

cheers

The kit is a bit of a mission to create, and till today I wasn't sure I could get around the REALLY dodgy fitting of bits.
But after some.........gentle................use of the Dremel, things look a whole lot brighterBig Smile [:D]

Hey MadMike,

I just caught your Grumman F9F-4/5 Panther on ARC. Really nice work, well done. Thumbs Up [tup]

I'm always hoping someone will produce (an easy to come by) F9F-5 in 1/48, one day maybe.

No worries mike, that makes 3 of us one more and we've got a section.........
As far as the timeframe goes and considering it's more of an Aussie modellers project
rather than a traditional GB i was going to give it about 6 months due to the messy conversion......
It's good that Tweets has started his for the Aussie GB that way we get to benefit from his experience building the kit.....
I figured we could make a start in JAN 2005 and finish in June.....

Sounds good to me, means I can do concurrent projects as I am an active member of 3 GB's on ARC and a moderator of two of them.

I figre my sabre collection HAS to have the CAC Sabre in it!

cheers

OK, I'd certainly be interested.

One question, what's the difference between the Highplanes conversion and the Red Roo conversion? They both fit the Hasegawa or Academy f-86 and both cost about the same, so is there a difference in quality, fit, etc?

I do know the Red Roo set can come with decals that cover four aircraft from 76 SQN.

Cheers

Darson your interest is very much welcomed,i figured if we could get 4 participants then it's a go,although having the entire SQD would be great......
I can't help u with the differances between the 2 conversions i only have the highplanes kit which as Tweety1 has mentioned is a bit of a mission,i imagine the Red Roo conversion couldn't be as bad but u never know.......
I have had a good look at the finished 1/48 Highplanes conversion thats displayed at my LHS,and with the right amount of patience and cursing it comes up a treat especially with the markings of 76th SQD........

Just continuing on my rant about how long it takes the mag to get here I'm still waiting on it but am expecting it sometime this or next week as the new mag is due in a weeks time.

Does anyone subscribe here? and how much did it end up costing and does it stilltake just as long to get here?

by the way any Tassie modellers here?

As mentioned earlier I have the High Planes conversion in 1:72. It certainly needs some work but once done and a coat of primer on, should look tickety-bo.

I figure, after building the 1:48 Premiere BAe Hawk T.1A and winning the battle (even after 6 months worth of scratch building) I can cope with a 1:72 conversion!

cheers
