I have been thinking about subscribing to FSM for a while now, because I am sick and tired of waiting weeks for my copy to arrive, but didn't think I could get it past the financial controller.

Then last she said to "What do you want for Fathers Day?". BINGO Big Smile [:D]

I now have a fathers day present that I want and my days of waiting for FSM to arrive at the newsagents are over.

i wish i had your confidence Mike i look at my conversion and think god what have i got myself into..its the NMF that has me concerned i've never done one before but i get a practice run on the Aussie Mustang so hopefully all will be well........

Does anbody know what is a good kit to use for this conversion and what engine configuation the car ran Question [?]

Tamiya AS-12 is the go for a decent BMF and it is tough as nails. The difficult part will be shoehorning everything into the replacement fuselage. I thing some thinning of the inner surface is definately going to be needed to get the halves to close!

Sounds like a great GB, please schedule it for early next year, I have enough to keep me going at the moment!

ROOSTA, Sorry to rub salt into the wounds mate but I received my October issue 2 days ago (Has the Tiger tank on the cover). Only 3 weeks ago I received the September issue with the cutaway Spit on the cover. If you can scrape the cash together you won't regret subscribing, especially if you usually buy every issue. The service is excellent.

I just posted some progress pics in the group build forum showing what I had to remove from the fuselage to make them even come close to mating.
Mine is the 1/48 High Planes kit, it uses the Academy Sabre as the donor, and I think the Red Roo kit uses the Hasegawa kit as the donor.

So, for this build I'll use the Hich Planes, and finish it with Alclad.
For the 76 SQD build, I'll get the Red Roo kit, and probably still use Alclad.
Also some MM metallics, for various panel differances.

To the blokes who have subscriptions to FSM, did you take it with standard (no charge) delivery?

Keen to know as I am sick of waiting.

I think FSM and Modelart are going to get a subs form me. SAMI is too expensive ifor a subs :(

Be interesting to see which cruise misslie we get for our Hornets and Orions. wonder who will bring out a resin kit for it?

Better ask our neighbours if they do not mind a kit coming out of it as we did not ask ithem if we could buy new missiles. What planet is Bomber Beazley on?

G'day Mike,

I have no idea if I've made a mistake or not, but when I ordered my sub for FSM the other day I picked up the standard delivery option because it was cheaper.

Agree with you on SAMI, I pick up every second or third issue depending on the content.

As an FYI, I believe that all CAC Sabre's were painted with an Aluminium Lacquer to protect the bare metal underneath. So you would be accurate in finishing your kit with just one colour Alclad.

Actually, the Sabre's did have a few panels made from different metal.
Not many, but enough to warrant using MM Buff Aluminium, with some Anodoic grey mixed in just to throw the tone out a fraction.

Guess I'll find out how well it works soon enough.

I was in Darwin in July, and took a whole heap of pics of the Sabre they have there.
Some of these pics showed a hint of green, maybe chromate or interior, in the wheel bays, and it appeared it had been sprayed over with silver.

The pics on the web site proved to me I wasn't seeing things. Big Smile [:D]

I also have a niggling feeling that the insides of the wheel bay doors would have been finished in the same greenish colour, but so far haven't been able to find any real proof of this............yet!

The search continues.................. Tongue [:P]

I haven't found the site that bad, slow as a wet week as usual but I can still get in OK.

Just had a look at Mike's reference link. You're spot on Tweety, around the cannon port and the jet exhaust there are some bare metal panels.

Gonna have to hunt down some BM Chrome Foil for the area just around the dump pipe.

Still haven't had any joy in finding out exactly what colour the wheel wells etc were, gonna have to ask some Americans me thinks.

Most likely color would be "Chromate Green" to prevent corrosion. This was a common paint for ALL interior surfaces. It was painted over as needed.
Chipping/peeling could occur which would reveal bare AL (especially in the wheel wells).

No i totally forgot about the Brissy show mate Sad [:(]

Yeah it's taking a long time to load tonight.......

For the Sabre i was gonna use Alclad 11 White Aluminium for the main area and Alclad11 Duraluminium for the little areas
Another thing i was planning to do was to ditch the fueselage band decal and paint one on,the decal seems to be the wrong red colour......

Tweety, if I remember correctly from my early days in the RAAF,most of the interior surfaces of aircraft were painted with chromate to stop corrosion, these surface where rarely over painted with any other colour (this was usually to keep aircraft weights down and save costs). The inside of the wheel bay doors of the Sabre that was held in a hanger at Laverton in the early 70s were chromate, whether this was representive of all Sabres I am unsure.

Wayne I enjoy getting older, especially when I consider the alternative.

After alot more research, and questions, I found what I was after.

Wheel wells, zinc chromate green.
Wheel bay doors, BMF both inner and outer surfaces.

I'm having a hell of a time choosing which Alclad colour to finish with.
I've got a P 38 finished in Aluminium, and it looks awlfull close to the Sabre BMF, But I've also got some Polished Aluminium, and that looks close to the BMF as well.

Decisions decisions Confused [%-)]

Oh yeah, j.s., I plan to paint as much of the red areas as I can. Your right with the decal colour, it just seems off and may look tacky after being applied.

madmike in the shipping info had it set as best method and it would not let you change it , I have recieved all issues on time..been reading the oct issue for a couple of weeks now not to bad at all Thumbs Up [tup]

From the reference site you provided it looks to me that MM Non Buffing Aluminium Plate would also be a good match for the Aluminium lacquer on the Sabre.

I had a look at the Alclad 2 site and they don't make a Zinc Chromate. As far as I know, the only paint manufacturer that I have seen in the shops that makes Zinc Chromate is MM enamel.

long time no see (or is it read)!

just a little note that I wont be readily available to read all the interesting info on models & Aussie military history. I've moved to Perth (where I dont have easy internet access) to start some more uni stuff. I've enrolled in a Master's course of Strategic Studies, which is run through ANU's Strategic & Defence Studies Centre. I've been meaning to do it for a couple of years now, but I finally got around to being able to do it. After a couple of weeks, I'm so interested and excited that I'm actually doing it.
