I'm still hanging out for the FSM with the cutaway spit on the cover, it's rediculously slow getting here, and I've been seeing all these other new american mags coming in, and some railway modeller mag that looks like its from the same guys who do FSM.

Madmike Macchis sounds like a great build.......

Tweets i did a whole heap of research on Little mate ,got pretty much everything including colour plates of the A/C.........
BTW he didn't fly 1 1/2 strutters in combat,he went from Pups to triplanes and finally camels,I have a complete list of his kills and what type of A/C he was flying at the time....

Tweets iv'e seen a Vampire somewhere before but i'm not sure, dig through your ModelArt Aus mags you may find something in there........
Speaking of the RAAF were getting together to build CAC Sabres in Jan 05 so we can or Tweets can blend em into one or two pics, maybe we can continue this theme further down the track and build Hornets or F111 and do the same thing, kinda like Aussie Modellers project No2.............Just a random thought..............

How about Mb 326 Macchi's?

And a good thought it is j.s.

On a side note, could someone steer me in the right direction for locating info on Australian aces from WWI.

I'm mostly after Robert Littles' info, and hopefully some pics of one of the 3 craft he flew to gain his 47 confirmed kills.
His craft were the Sopwith Pup, 1 1/2 Strutter, and the Triplane.

Ok, heres another RAAF kit I'd like to build.
DH 100 or 115 Vampire jet.
Has any one seen or built one of these, cause it is a bit difficult to locate.

J.S you are famous.

If you check out page 68 of the October FSM in the From the Forum section, there is a screen grab of the forum web page. Now if you look really carefully towards the top of the screen grab next to Announcements From FineScale Modeler, whose name happens to appear there, J.S Harrison. Cool [8D]

As for the hobby room, he loves to hang in there, cause thats where dad is, so I had to redesign my bench.
Ordered the steel today, and the wood and lighting should be here by the weekend.
It's gonna be 1.5 mtrs long, 600mm deep and have a spray booth at one end.
All hidden by a bi-hinged door, that is lockable.

You know it's locked when the lights inside go out.Cool [8D]

Tell me about it. I have a one and a half year old and a five year old and both of them are into everything. I have to make sure that my hobby room stays locked at all times because of the chemicals, knives and other generally unsafe stuff in there (not to mention my models).

I got nothing model wise eitherSad [:(]

But Adon, my son, did this really cute little painting at day care.
Kinda messy, lots of dots and slashes in some awful colours, he even made some colours I'm sure never existed before, but you really can't expect to much from an 11 month old bubba!!!Smile [:)]

But if he is playing with paints now, then the future looks bright for a budding modeller!!!Cool [8D]

As it was father’s day on Sunday I was wondering how the other dads here got on present wise.
Myself, I ended up with the FSM subscription that I wanted as well as a 1/48 Tamiya Spitfire Mk.I, a 1/48 Tamiya P-51B and of course some socks and undies.

From the reference site you provided it looks to me that MM Non Buffing Aluminium Plate would also be a good match for the Aluminium lacquer on the Sabre.

I had a look at the Alclad 2 site and they don't make a Zinc Chromate. As far as I know, the only paint manufacturer that I have seen in the shops that makes Zinc Chromate is MM enamel.

Darren thanks for the heads up on the Model Master paints,My LHS has plenty of that....
They only seem to run out of things like Interior Green, Flat Clear and RLM 76 which took 6 months to come in......I could'nt wait for interior green or flat clear so i had to mail order it....

Tweets Snowy Mtn Models is a pretty cool shop, the guys name is Ron and if he does'nt have it he'll get it for you.....
there's also a website if you want to buy online, can't remember the exact address Dunce [D)]but it's advertised in Model Art Aus......

hey fella's

long time no see (or is it read)!

just a little note that I wont be readily available to read all the interesting info on models & Aussie military history. I've moved to Perth (where I dont have easy internet access) to start some more uni stuff. I've enrolled in a Master's course of Strategic Studies, which is run through ANU's Strategic & Defence Studies Centre. I've been meaning to do it for a couple of years now, but I finally got around to being able to do it. After a couple of weeks, I'm so interested and excited that I'm actually doing it.

If you need to contact me (for whatever reason - eg your next holiday trip to Perth and you want to know where the best hobby shops are!) my email is here!

QUOTE: To the blokes who have subscriptions to FSM, did you take it with standard (no charge) delivery?

Keen to know as I am sick of waiting.

I think FSM and Modelart are going to get a subs form me. SAMI is too expensive ifor a subs :(

Be interesting to see which cruise misslie we get for our Hornets and Orions. wonder who will bring out a resin kit for it?

Better ask our neighbours if they do not mind a kit coming out of it as we did not ask ithem if we could buy new missiles. What planet is Bomber Beazley on?

Thanks for your replies, guys (hehe, that rhymedTongue [:P])

After alot more research, and questions, I found what I was after.

Wheel wells, zinc chromate green.
Wheel bay doors, BMF both inner and outer surfaces.

I'm having a hell of a time choosing which Alclad colour to finish with.
I've got a P 38 finished in Aluminium, and it looks awlfull close to the Sabre BMF, But I've also got some Polished Aluminium, and that looks close to the BMF as well.

Decisions decisionsConfused [%-)]

Oh yeah, j.s., I plan to paint as much of the red areas as I can. Your right with the decal colour, it just seems off and may look tacky after being applied.

I was in Darwin in July, and took a whole heap of pics of the Sabre they have there.
Some of these pics showed a hint of green, maybe chromate or interior, in the wheel bays, and it appeared it had been sprayed over with silver.

The pics on the web site proved to me I wasn't seeing things.Big Smile [:D]

I also have a niggling feeling that the insides of the wheel bay doors would have been finished in the same greenish colour, but so far haven't been able to find any real proof of this............yet!

The search continues..................Tongue [:P]

Tweety, if I remember correctly from my early days in the RAAF,most of the interior surfaces of aircraft were painted with chromate to stop corrosion, these surface where rarely over painted with any other colour (this was usually to keep aircraft weights down and save costs). The inside of the wheel bay doors of the Sabre that was held in a hanger at Laverton in the early 70s were chromate, whether this was representive of all Sabres I am unsure.
Wayne I enjoy getting older, especially when I consider the alternative.
