Have to agree with you for the most part. I get a lot of my models now via eBay and other modellers, as I like building older kits.

Sometimes postage from the States works well, other times it can be expensive. They have the wierdest pricing for postage over there!

I just got back from the Melbourne Expo last night. All I can say is that there is some buetiful models being produced by Australians today! I was even more amazed at the work being produced by the younger modellers. My wife and I were looking at some very well painted figures when the judge scoring them pointed out that they were in fact the Junior Category, we were astounded! The numbers of entries were down but the quality was definately there.

I have to agree the Model Expo was great and quality of the builds were just as good as any of those you see in O/S magazines.  Unfortunately I didn't a chance to stay very long as I was working all weekend and could only afford a few hours to shop, chat and gawk.

The Swap and Sell was much better than last year as well as the organisers changed the layout to increase the traffic flow and reduce the crush that usually happens.

I only bought 1 kit which was the Tamiya 1/48 Do335 Pfeil.  I picked it up for $20 and got the Eduard mask for another $3, I was wrapt given that kit retails for about $60.  Anybody else grab any bargains?

Posted this over at the AMI and ARC forums, so I thought you would like to see a progress built. Hawkeye make a fantastic set of decals for the Challenger in RAAF service. So my next build of this lovely kit will be a RAAF one.

A pair of new inprogress shots of my current project. Gloss white is difficult to photo well, so apologies for the quick pics of this build on my workbench. When the build is finished I will get better pics.

These were taken by my new pocket size Canon A410 digicam. My finished model pics are taken with my Kodak DX6490.

Nice kit that needed some filler work and I decided that I prefer decal cockpit windows as masking at this scale is fiddly to say the least. Decals went on really well except for the warning lines on the engine pylons. I had to cut those into 5 parts to apply.

The main door seal decals were 5mm short! So I will add an appropriate colour wash to the door recess to replace the decal. A light grey will be fine but I reckon concrete colour matches the decal colour well. Just need to get some appropriate paint.

The Humbrol polished aluminium on the wing leading edges wore off due to handling while decaling, even with a protective coat of Future. I will have to touch these areas up once all the undercarriage parts are added. Another reason why I avoid Humbrol and Modelmaster metallics, except for small detail work. Next time I will use Tamiya Silver Leaf TS-30.

Im just posting this message to let you all know that I am taking an extended break from scale modelling.   I will keep my my finescale forum account opened so that this thread can continue for now.   Although I may not post anything I will check back on how things are going every now and again.     I welcome all those that have joined this thread lately, enjoy your time with the members of Aussie Modellers thread  and the rest of the members of the FSM forum, its a great site.

Mike, all should be working now as the host has fixed the problem. I have just had a look form work and have been able to access all the pages.

Will, I have asked over at the AMI board for any dates for you. There is a Calender on there that gets updated when clubs send in the details of the shows as well as a Club Connection page that is getting together a list of the clubs in the different Towns and states.

Will,  you just missed one last weekend (Squadron). The next one will be an Armour/figure/diorama show (Battalion) on 4 November hosted by the APMA.

Damn, but my parents couldn't have taken me then anyway, it might be a struggle to get them to take me next time. I should be able to haras them enough though, oh and for all Sydney modelers especially around the shire Vaggs hobbies just got in a new shipment of Tamiya armour, figures and plastic terrain and ad-ons (sandbags german weapons sets). Theres a good range with a couple of 1/48 items but alot of variety in 1/35, mostly just one kit of each though.

P.S. I have no connection with store I just was in today after school and walked out with a Tamiya 1/35 Walker Bulldog.

Will, just finished that kit, comes out pretty good, it's a older kit but it builds very well and it was a pleasure to work with.

Here are some images of the interior of the 1/72 Airfix Firefly I am building for the 'Down Memory Lane' group build. I spent a day having fun doing it all, especialy the seats. I have yet to add the radios iin the rear compartment and some further detail in the cockpit.

Dave - I assume those are the cheap seats down the back (on the tail)?

They are for the wing walkers or the back seater if the pilot has been getting into the baked beans.

I live in Paralowie Sth Australia and have got back into the hobby recently.I dabble when i can but hope to contribute later on. Like most my favourite subject is anything world war 2 and anyhting jets.

Hey Aussies!    I am not an Aussie, but a Wyoming, USA modeler. I wanted to chime in on my experience in Perth, WA last fall.    While in Perth I took the time to visit the Bull Creek RAAF Museum. I had a tremendous time there in the museum. The tour guide was kind enough to recommend seeing the Battle of Britain Lace in the adjoining building there. He was even more kind enough to specifically drag me over there right when the place was closing. I had spent all the time wandering the museum part and hadn't gone to see it. He dragged me over there and I thank him very much for making me do that.

To keep the link with models, they do have a bunch of models for sale at the entrance desk to the museum.

From there, had a very interesting down under trek. Made it to Rottnest/Paraburdoo/Tom Price/Ayers-Khata Jutu/Hunter Valley/Queensland interior/Mackay/Barrier Reef snorkeling/Eungella/Brisbane. Amazing place! Didn't get bit, stung, dragged under, jawed, or jelly fished!  And you guys couldn't believe living in grizzly country!   No worries!
