Just thought I would put a photo of my current model in progress, a Spitfire Mk Vc using the Red Roo Vc Conversion and Red roo decals for 85 SQN.

Did you go to the RAAF Pearce airshow?

Celestialsphere

Certainly did and thanks for asking.

Great day, We all had a great deal of fun :)

We were facing the sun during the whole display, plus it was very hot and very bright that day so the pics did not turn out as good as I would have liked. This was complicated by my camera being repaired and I had to use my daughters camera with less zoom.

Just finished this tonight. Matchbox A-4M Skyhawk, OOB for the Matchbox Madness GB on ARC. In hindsight I should have shaved down the main u/c doors, but never mind.

cheers

Mike

You could try Stanbridges or Perth Hobby sotre, but we are not too well served here in Perth for such things!

Weather is a lovely mid 20's C currently, less that 10 degrees C than it would normally be this time of year. Lovely weather all the same!

cheers

I'm in the process of compiling a list of all of the model clubs in Australia and their contact details for the Aussie modeller website. If you are a member of a club and would like it added please email me the following details to aussiemodeller@hotmail.com

a. the name of the club

b. where it is - state, town/city/suburb

c. contact details eg phone numbers or emails (preferably club not personal email address)

d. what modelling is covered eg aircraft only, all types etc

e. the club website if you have one.

If the club doesn't have one i'll add a page to the AMI site where you can have further details of your club and a few photos etc. I am also doing up a modelling events calender for the site for things like club comps etc. So once again, please send details of them to the above email address.

I will have to work out what is a good kit to build for the Aussie GB.

Perhaps something a little different like a Lockheed Electra maybe?

cheers

A group build sounds good to me, eight months is even better! Between work, running a website and my fiance I have even less time to build models!

BUT, I have managed to finish a few more models -

The finished Spitfire Vc using the Red Roo Vc conversion and decals

Academy Spitfire Mk XIVe using Red Roo Decals and the kit OOB

The model line up less 4 models on display in the local hobby shop.

Mike I hope you can join us on this one, it would be a pleasure to watch you put together another fantastic build, I can still remember that great looking airliner you did in the 2004 Aussie Gb, the one with the native animal decals on it.....

Hi guys. I'm back - after a bit of a nightmare getting my forum password reset after the website updateSigh [sigh]

Dave, terrific looking stash. What did you use for the metallic finish?

Group build sounds good, but more time this year please. I'm still going on the B-25 from last year. I just laid down the primer on the weekend after the substantial chore of masking off the glassware.

For those who haven't been to the Cambed Museum, I've uploaded some photos to Fotki. Sorry I haven't organised them yet. They have some very interesting Oz aircraft & you can often get up close, even inside the cockpit. A couple of beaufighters, an immacualte beaufort, an unpainted Mosquito (raw wood!), a couple of Fairy's (!).

Good to see you back on line again Bandha, those are some great shots of the Beaufighter that you've posted thanks, I'll need all the reference I can get on the Beaufighter because I'm doing an RAAF one for the Battle of the North Atlantic GB that's going to kick off soon.

As for the Aussie GB, well this year it's going to be Bobby Gibbes Kittyhawk Mk.Ia.  Hopefully this year I won't destroy the kit just before completion date.

Cheers

--edit-- Oops sorry Dave I forgot to mention your Spitfire, it looks fantastic Thumbs Up [tup].  Btw have you tried out Ron's Resin Spit VC conversion set?

Darson, the Spit Vc is done using the Red Roo conversion set, I didn't even know that Ron's Resin did a conversion for the Vc. Do you have any photos or reviews of it? The Red Roo set  was good for the most part but I didn't like the underwing join. The seam needs to be very precise and there are many panel lines that are under risk.

Carl, The NMF was done using Humbrol Polished Aluminium (Hu 2700 series paints) with several coats of 'One Go' over the top of it.

I posted an pic earlier and have finally got around to taking some better ones.

A simple and fun kit.

I used Tamiya fine white primer for the white undersides and Pollyscale Gull Grey for the top. All in all a good build.

Decal stripes were used for the Bullpup missiles & the arrester hook (although I mis-calculated the width of the stripes on the arrester hook, resulting in less striping :( )

Wash was a neutral grey acrylic grunge wash.

I could not seem to get decent pics of this model. The A-4's light colours reflected my camera's flash badly and even with two spots providing light and the camera flash off, I still think they are a tad dark.

Recommend this kit to those wanting a quick and easy build. Bare in mind there is no interior detail bar a suspect seat. For those wanting a better A-4M then the choices in order would be Fujimi, or Esci/Italeri.

Basic kit = easy build = lots of fun...

Here are the pics. I hope you like them :)

All, If anybody is still interested in joining the Aussie group build for this year, the thread is up and running in the Group Build forum.

Dave, I saw the Ron's Resin Mk.VC a while ago at a few online stores but didn't pick one up unfortunately.  I have just done a bit of search of the online stores and now I can't find them anywhere Sad [:(].  The only one I have seen built up was by a guy at IPMS last year who gave it great wrap.

Mike that's a great looking A4, you would never know there's not much in the way of interior from the shots you've taken, nice job Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup].

Jules

That would have been the Ansett 737-300 Ollie, Millie and Syd. I took Silver at WASMEx 2005 with that behind the Tigercat Firebomber pictured in the recent ModelArt mag. Smile [:)]

I will have to put my thinking caps on and come up with something interesting!

cheers

A new year to you all and a happy renewed hobby to me.

My name is Mike, from Melbourne.  Haven't made models since I was at school in the 70s.

My passion in the past was for WWII aircraft. My first project I think will be a Jeep, building up to a diorama eventually. A mate of mine has a real "follow me" Jeep (CJ3 I think); it will be great to have an actual example to base it on. The challenging part will be finding out the real history of that vehicle.

Looking for a local club too.  Any members of a Melbourne club on the board?

Cheers

Mike, you may have seen this link before when you visited the Aussie Modeller site, it is the Club Connection page. It only has three clubs on it from Melbourne so far, which part of Melbourne are you from?

Thanks, mate

Waverley club is 20 minutes from home, Whittlesea club is 20 minutes from work.

Will check them out next month.

I live in Prahran close to the CBD.  Dandenong Club  (http://dandenongsmc.org/)  is a bit too far for me.

MikeBravo,

Welcome back to the modelmaking fold!

I'm a member of the Eastern Suburbs Scale Model Club - ESSMC. You're welcome to visit our meetings on the first Tuesday of the month. We meet at the Box Hill Community Arts Centre - Cnr. Station Street and Combarton Street. Melway 47 D11.

We're a friendly lot, and you will always see a nice selection of models on the tables.

Anyone...

I'm nearly ready to start decalling my OzMods Caribou. My question without notice is;

Which way do the Kangaroo's on the Australian roundels sit.

On the fuselage sides I presume they face nose foward?

On the wings - nose foward and feet towards the fuselage? Top and underside of the wing?

Any help is appreciated.

Andrew its like dave said the roo always faces forward with its feet towards the fuselage, Propeller [8-] and now a bit of  trivia the roo was selected not only because of its easily reconized Australian origin but also it is only one of a few animals that can not go backwards, i.e the roo must always move in the direction that it is facing.  Bow [bow] Please forgive me for this, to many years sent in the RAAF.

Big Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D] I was just looking at the Forum Statistics info that can be accessed at the bottom of the Forum Title page and found that our thread (Aussie Modellers) has been the most popular over the last three days.  How about that.

Yeah, I've noticed that too on & off since FSM started their new webpage format. I'm amazed cos some of the Group Build and A/C threads would seem to me (at first and with an educated guess) to receive more action time than our humble Aussie watering hole! (and thats a drinking & gathering place, aka Pub, for all you non-Aussies who are reading this! - just a little Aussie Slang 101).

Well Aussies love a yarn, so it stands to reason.

What gets me is that there are so few of us, and yet this thread has been going strong for a long time now.

This is a good thing, at least there is always somewhere for us lot to catch up, and if were inactive for a while we can rely on this thread to find our bretheren.
