I wounded why my ears were burning.

Don't worry Joe, your safe with your 48 kits.

For now Wink

I have never had to wear glasses, but when I got back into the hobby 5 years ago I did noticed I was struggling to focus on my builds, before I had never had a problem. But I found the magnifying headband a real saver. But for about a year I have noticed I now struggle to read small print, though my long vision is still pretty good. So I think its time I got some reading glasses, I just keep putting it off.

Take heart comrades. As our sight and dexterity becomes less acute this will be our future and saving grace:

I remember watching that series, it was really interesting. In one they built a full size 2 story  house out of lego, including furniture and James may had to sleep in it for one night.

I'm up to very good quality, very high powered readers and two opti-lites for the small stuff in 1/48. But hey, I'm 68 and still building and having fun. I do remember when I was 40, so I know my mind isn't completely gone yet. Now if I could just remember where I keep the super glue...... Getting older is not for sissies, but it does beat the only known alternative.

There are advantages to being older. I am retired, and the kids are all grown up and on  their own, so I have more time for modeling.  Of course, it also takes more time to do the same work :-(

Hey !

Just think of it this way .If we go to that great model shop ,you know where ,Wouldn't it be nice to be doing what we enjoy when we do that ! I don't worry about that Because I forwarded a lot of my unbuilts to " Wounded warriers " So I  know that my legacy to them will bring enjoyment . So weak eyes , a collapsing frame will not stop me .I will model , blind as a bat and deaf as a stone . Why because I love it !      Tanker - Builder

Seems I am not alone in this problem. I am also near-sighted and fine detail is best done with my glasses off! Other times, I find myself with a set of readers perched on the end of my nose, in front of my regular glasses, which are bifocal! It was only about 10 years ago I was able to pull this off:

This is Trumpeters 1/144th scale F-22 Raptor. (Quarter shown for proof!) All the panels are masks I cut out and airbrushed onto the plane as well as the squiggly darker markings. Also hand cut masks.

Now I can barely see it well enough to even appreciate my own work! I do all 1/72nd now but have considered moving up to 1/48th.

I was about to go work on my Stuka, but think I need a little nap....Sleep

*******

On my workbench now:

It's all about classic cars now!

Why can't I find the "Any" key on my keyboard?

The first sign that made me realize I was getting old was a while ago. My youngest brother was the last one still living at home. While visiting my folks, I walked down the hall, and he was combing his hair in  the mirror.  I asked him, "Who are you, the Fonz?"

He said, "Who?"

Other signs:

Somewhere along the way, I stopped taking the steps two at a time.

That colonoscopy looms larger on the horizon.

During my company softball career, no matter how far I hit the ball, it was a double. That's where I stopped running.

hkshooter

Today I had to put on my readers AND my optivisor  to see what I was doing.

That is all.

That's the way I work since I returned to the hobby.

So... 3 years later and we're all older.  My legs have begun to hurt if I sit for any length of time, so it's getting harder and harder to put in bench time.  Something I could not have predicted 3 years ago.

Any adjustments anyone else has made?

Try this one.  It's either becaue of genitcs or a head injury, and I've had two but I managed to develope a problem where there's water building up in the layers of my cornea.  This throws focus into chaos at times and with the floaters running around from teh dead cells, you sometimes see little things that aren't there.  Since nobody in my family wore glasses, I have to assume it's from the head injuries, one as a kid, and one in the Air Force.

Add to this that my hands are numb it hurts when I hold things for more than a few seconds, and I sometimes drop things through my fingers where the carpet monster is quite happy.  One time I dropped the same piece four times.

Ah yes, the glasses, hearing aids, arthritis, memory issues, neuropathy and a stroke. Luckily at 75 I can still do some modeling, but the most unpleasant thing is I can remember chasing girls, I just can't recall what I did when I caught them.

Glasses can't help that.

Tongue Tied...I don't have much to look forward to, do I???

Hit 40 last August...the eyes still rock though!

Had an eye exam a couple months ago....took my daughter in for new glasses. As she's reading the eye chart...she called out a "B"...I mumbled to myself.."that's an "R". The eye doc was like "whoa, what?...you can see that"??? Mind you, I'm about 25 feet away from the chart. He was baffled and offered me a free exam, just to see (no pun intended)...still 20/20+...and then some!!!

I'll be payin for it, I'm sure. I'll be stricken blind by 45.

Look at the bright side, you can still move fast enough to catch them.

                                                 or....

They're just slowing down out of sympathy.

I'm 68 and i got back into modeling 2 years ago because i can hardly do construction any longer, but i never thought modeling would hurt too.  Too long at the assembly bench and it's difficult to straighten up.  Too long at my standing spray area and my legs hurt.  No wonder it takes me so long to complete a project... but I am getting a lot of naps in  LOL.

I'm finally retired. Now time I got, money I don't.
