DD, I am wondering if the nose damage was caused in a mid air refueling mishap. The ding is right ahead of the receptacle. It does not look like actual battle damage. But it does  catch your attention due to location right squarely on the nose.

That makes sense. Didn't consider that. I bet the pilot needed a change of underwear afterwards, though......

Not bad news at all here. I was able to pick up an open box unstarted T-55 'Enigma' for $25. No decals, though...Hah! Just kidding; the kit has no markings, none needed. The Iraqis were not big on that kind of thing. Not a bad deal, and I definitely have stuff to think over before the build starts now...but as pointed out, it does run for a bit....

I believe that in the Americas, the war lasted longer than 7 years. The 7 years war refers to the period 1756, when the conflict spread to Europe, to 1763. But I think it had been on going for a couple of years before that.

The Leave is cancelled comment must have come from the civvies in white hall. I think most of the army that wasn't getting ready to deploy were fighting fires while the fire brigade was on strike. We got flown back from an exercise in Canada in 2002 early to play fireman and then thought we might get pulled off that to go to Iraq for the invasion. We later got pulled off the strike to take over from the guys who ha invaded.

Tell Everyone Leave Is Cancelled sounds most appropriate ;) and the thank you for the enlightenment on Granby. It's interesting how two countries who fought the same war on the same side have differing names. Although mind you we were still English colonies at the time. But I am fairly certain that the "French Indian" title here dates to pre revolutionary times. A fascinating period of history in which some seeds of the American Revolution were sown.

Probably, or after the Village in Nottinghamshire that he was Marquess of. I think there are also places called Granby in the US.

Op Granby was named after John Manners, Marquess of Granby. He was commander of British forces during the Severn Years war. I think you called it the French and Indian war the other day Stik.

Telic was supposedly chosen by a Computer so to avoid any Political connotations. I have no idea what a Telic is. But apparently in the build up it was jokily said to stand for ''Tell Everyone Leave Is Cancelled''

It actually ran from 2003 to 2009 with a new number being added every 6 months with the Brigade change over. I served on Telic 2 and 9 for example.

Talk about an obscure word for a code name. Nothing like a WWII or Korean War code name. Or some of the Vietnam ones. I guess that most of the good ones have been used.

Yeah, the 1/48 Strike Eagle can be found pretty affordably at Hobby Lobby. Telic air & ground forces have some great options. I always like the Tornado GR.1 with the JP 233 dispensers. Those and the Jaguars had some great saucy nose art as well.

I just built the Tamiya Tiran 5. Those Tammie T 55s are really swell kits.

MJ, this does not kick off for another month, and then it will run for 8 months. You have plenty of time! (famous last words on here!) Man I wish that I could get one of those Tamiya Enigmas for a good price!

Given that we have a few weeks before things actually get rolling, I might switch subject....need a few Iraqi things to get built, too! Maybe a Tamiya T-55 'Enigma' or one of the many lousy Hobbycraft Soviet/Iraqi boxings available in the Persian Gulf Fighters series. Guess I have some thinking to do still.

I have so many kits to choose from in my stash. But I am leaning towards a 1/35 BMP-1 to do in Iraqi colors. I found a few photos of some that have some field rigged jerry can racks in the rear so I can add a little something to the basic kit. Like Bish is a fan of German stuff, I like the opposition side from the Cold War era. The Soviets made some mean looking hardware.
