Stik, if you need any pictures of the Idaho Weasel, let me know, I'm only a few minutes from Gowen Field and have access to the base.  They have the Weasel and others on static display.

Nice purchase Greg. I also have that kit, and will be building it in that ID Guard Weasel unit markings. They were the last US unit to fly the Phantom in combat.

I take it you have the new Revell 1/32 Weasel kit? That kit would work, but would need different markings. Either the 35th FW out of George AFB, or the 52nd FW from Spangdahlem.

And learning is usually a good thing ;)

You assume correctly, young wise one. There was a thread here about the 1/32nd beastie being on sale at Hobby Lobby, and in a rare moment of weakness I ran out and procured one.

We had access to airbases in Saudi. Prior to Desert Shield there was no US presence in Saudi.

One of the bases for our Harriers was actually a soccer field. Harries don't need no stinkin' runway!! Ooh Rah!!

Stik, I was having a look around to see what's kits catch my eye. At first I thought an armour build. I don't want to do a warrior as I would like to do one of those in Telic rather than Granby, so I figured a Chally would be nice. I found a review of the 1992 Tamiya kit with Gulf markings. The guy was trying to work out where the stowage was so he checked on here and posted a couple of comments from a couple of shady characters.

After that, I decided to find a list of what the Brits used out there and spotted the Buccaneer. Theres an Airfix that would work for that, so currently I am torn between the two but leaning towards the aircraft.

I might learn something if this GB. pans out

I was kinda thinking of an F-4 Phantom Wild Weasel I acquired a month or so ago, but it has a special reserve unit retirement scheme that I like, and don't reckon that would be appropriate for this. No worries, I will find something.

Greg, supposedly Desert Shield was the basis for the beginnings of Al Qaeda. Bin Laden wanted to lead forces in guerrilla warfare against the Iraqis to toss them out of Kuwait as he had done in Afghanistan against the Soviets. He was offended that US forces were allowed entry into Saudi and had a falling out with the monarchy at that time.

JE, yes, of course crossovers will be allowed.

Bish, I was off active duty by then, and in the Guard here. I got called up and demobilized due to paperwork screw ups due to my transfer from one unit to another, but never deployed for that one.

For those interested and thinking of building an aircraft, this site is pretty comprehensive on aircraft used.

I'd be game. Been wanting incentive to try a fighter jet of some sort. Something US, launched from a carrier probably. Being my first jet in xx yrs, will probably have a ton of questions along the way.

Regarding DD's comment, sitting her thinking I was 33 when the operation started? No way. This is really quite shocking.
