Well--I can finally contribute to this thread. I broke open my wallet and purchased what will probably be my next project. This is my first resin kit.

Just grabbed a set of Friulmodel ATL-79 "Bigfoot" tracks for the Brad at the top of the page.  Offered $25, free ship and accepted.  All set to make a fool of myself with that little addition. They also come with the correct drive sprockets, so I don't have to contact George Jetson at Spacely......Big Smile

And then there is this sweet bonus score from a FB auction. Managed to get this lot for $30.00. I've always wanted to get my hands on the Accurate Miniatures F3F-2 kit. And I did with a major plus. Yes!

I thought these were the ones you were talking about on Monday Joe. Great score and a GREAT deal!!!

Thanks Joe. Yeah, I was pretty darn amped up to score this lot. I didn't realize that these kits came with PE seatbelts, rigging and engine harness. Quite a bonus.

Nice.  Have the Black Cat from Academy.  Had an F3F that was stored in the motorhome and it got away from me along with a couple of other kits.  Was the one where you could pull out the prop, then turn it to raise and lower the landing gear....really sorry to lose that one.

Oh Man, that's a bummer. Which kit was that? Okay, I'm curious, how exactly did it "get away"?

Had a bunch of stuff stored in the coach at a friend's place in the country.  Her hubby passed and the brother-in-law had power of attorney on the property.  Never heard a word, but next time by everything was gone and a huge new home was going up.  Don't know how they got rid of the rigs (had a D-50 out there too converted to solid axles, leaf springs and a 3.8 Buick/T-400).

Don't remember the make or scale of that kit, but had to be around 1/32 or better.  Had an Oregon kit, Voodoo, and couple others. Was around 15 years ago or so.

Did a fast search, was a 1/32 Monogram kit from the late 50's/60's.  Found 2 on the bay and grabbed one.  Were molded in yellow, red, silver and clear. Figured I'd kick myself later if I didn't.

Wow. That's an unfortunate way to lose some really nice kits. I am glad to hear that you found a replacement for your vintage F3F. I'm looking forward to you posting a pic of it here when it arrives. Can't say as I recall that particular kit.

Picked this up on friday.  A really well molded kit and lots of detail.  I'll try to get some sprue shots later this week.

So I went to the LHS to get one bottle of paint and, since they had a sell table I couldn't help but look so for 25 bucks....

I'm continuing to really appreciate some of the kits everyone is acquiring. It's very interesting to see what some folks are finding out there. It gives me some great ideas and insight.

I've continued to add to my stash with some sweet kits.

Scored this sweet Macchi 205 in an auction from great gentleman from Hong Kong. I had never seen this one before.

Finally found the Revell repop of the Matchbox PB4Y on ebay for a reasonable price. I already have a couple of the Matchboxes but, I wanted this kit for the markings and better decals.

A couple of other auction scores.

And then there is this sweet bonus score from a FB auction. Managed to get this lot for $30.00. I've always wanted to get my hands on the Accurate Miniatures F3F-2 kit. And I did with a major plus. Yes!

It came with a review from Perth modelers that give the bigfoot track p/n, so may look into those before I dig into it and have on hand for when it gets on the bench.

My lady is going to have a stroke when I start on the Peacemaker and the big BUFF.  Luckily not in the same house just yet.

Goldhammer, that is quite the haul! I hope you have lots of display space for some of those... and if your a stickler for accuracy, you’ll want to get some replacement tracks for the Bradley. The kit comes with the initial production type, while the OIF version was equipped with the later “Bigfoot” type.

Great haul! And enjoy your movie in between bench sessions...

Thanks.  The MK IV doesnt have and interior, but can have a hatch open on the sponsons to show off the side guns.  Ordered out a new PE set for the Storch, and a request in to Hase on a new "C" sprue. Some of the PE went with the IP to party somewhere.

Heard back from Hase....still available and on the way from over there....8-12 weeks, but no biggie as it will be aways down the build list.

Thats a great haul you got there. Like that Takom Mk. IV  and the Storch. Built the Storch when I was a kid, even though it was a challange I enjoyed it alot.

Got this one for my clubs GB, WWI armor:

Then they went and had a swap meet this morning at our local Vet's home.  Here is some cake:

Picked it up for $5, partially started and missing the IP, but has Eduard PE and masks.

and..

The Phantom is to replace on I can't find, and gives me all three versions I worked on, along with the "G", all same scale.  The KC is to go with my 1/72 B-52G, hopefully in a refueling scene hanging from the ceiling.  Worked on 'G's" as well.  $25 each

For the track fans, got this from the club president for $20.And for the icing on the above cake...........

Factory wrapped, NIB, can't even smell plastic through the wrapper.  Even came with a VHS tape of "Strategic Air Command", which will be converted to DVD.  Biggest score of the day for $30

$140 gift card at the LHS?! Somebody loves you! The two Tamiya kits sound great too!

Stik...sorry but I've been away for a while.  Yup.  $100 from my mother-in-law, $40 from my nephew and the two kits from my brother-in-law.  Let's just say I'm pretty easy to buy for on birthdays and at Christmas.

In 1:48, between Otaki/ARII, Nichimo, Hasegawa, and Tamiya, most of your Japanese late War fighters, including the twins/heavies, are covered. For example Tamiya makes the early George and Rex float version. Hasegawa makes the late George. The Nick and Irving are also out there for your heavies. These subjects may not be as extensively kitted ad naseum as the 190/109 families, but they can be found. Good luck to you on this Pokémon hunt to get them all and build ‘em!!!

I have noticed that options for certain Japanese fighters, such as the KI-100 are pretty limited (which may be partly due to a lack of historical documentation and surviving aircraft), at least in 1/48 scale. I have found a few decent looking KI-84s, but then variants of the N1K are limited and usually pretty spendy. I have discovered my previously unknown love of later war Japanese fighters. I have not seen many, if any Japanese heavy fighters in 1/48. The market seems pretty flush with 109s and 190s in every scale known to man. I could probably spend the rest of my days just building BF-109G variants and not do the same kit twice.

Even with WWII subjects, the choices can get slim for companies depending upon scale and subject matter. Sure you have the generic Spitfire, Mustang, Messerschmitt, Zero, etc. But if your interest area is the Pacific Carrier Aircraft, or Eastern Front Fighters and Attack types, your choices narrow immediately. Twin engine bombers and attack types? Night fighters? Some aircraft types have more kits of them than easily counted. Others are lucky to have one basic mold.

Part of that formula will depend upon your subject tastes and preferences. Some subject areas are well served by many model companies. If your taste in aircraft is early Cold War/Korean War/post Korea, you’ll be looking outside the Tamiya/Hasegawa orbit for the most part.

thats a good point. As you can probably tell I have limited my exposure thus far to WWII aircraft thus far. With so many kits and manufacturers out there, I feel like I could easily get overwhelmed. I would like to move into other categories in time though.

Shacknasty Jim

I am trying out different manufacturers to get a feel for what each offers. Only done maybe 6-7 kits thus far. Everyone seems to be pretty high on Tamiya kits, but thus far I am really liking Hasegawa and these new tooled Airfix kits are really nice (really nice in the sense I have no idea what I am talking about, but I have really like the two I have done).

Tamiya kits do generally have a good reputation. I have just built my first of their aircraft and it was very nice. But most companies can be hit and miss. I used to be devoted to Hasegawa, but now they seem very over priced when companies like Revell are bringing out kits with as much or more detail at a fraction of the price. I do like some of the kiuts coming out of Eastern Europe. They take a bit of extra work, but they have interesting subjects and from what i have done so far, very nice kits.

That’s good to know, thank you. I have that Eduard one I am anxious to try too. People really seem to dig on those, especially in the Bf-109 category. I’m just trying out all that I can, see what is what.
