GMorrison

I want to try some new things. So I picked up these.

Nice! I like those. I once had a slot-car like that porsche. I want to see pictures of them when finished. Maybe a WIP? Stick out tongue That would be cool.

JJ, that Stealth MiG looks great. I am curious to see how you will dress it up. I have one in my stash myself, so I’ll be looking for ideas.

Bish, that’s a good score that you picked up on the ICM 251/A. I hope to see you building it not too long from now.

SB, Accurate made some very nice Yak kits, along with their Sturmoviks. All are definitely worth picking up.

As for me, I picked this up yesterday during a LHS visit...

Saw this for a good price on eBay and snagged it, arrived in the mail today.  I don't normally build Soviet aircraft, but after reading about Lilya Litvyak I felt a strong desire to build her plane.  It looks like a really nice kit.

Finaly, i have a kit of a vehicle i have wnated for qute some tie. 4 or 5 years ago Dragon announced a 251 Ausf A, but it never came. So when ICM announced the same last year, i was hopeful but not over optimistic. But, unlike Dragon, they did what they said they were going to do.

I saw some CAD iages a couple of months back and was very pleased to see that ICM have not made the same mistake that Zvezda did, ICM have done their research and have the correct interiour. And after a look at the kit, i think it will be easier to convert this kit to an Ausf B than it will be to correct the Zvezda kit.

And what more, they have already announced a second kit, a command version, which again shows they have done their research as they have called it a /6 and not a /3.

After seeing a build of the old SMER kit here on the forum, I poked around and found the new Heller Tablot Lago GP.  Nice looking kit on first glance.  Had to ship from Germany though...

Thanks,

John

Thanks, it looks like Aerobonus makes exactly what I need.

No problem. I was not sure if any of those would be sutable, i was not sure which are modern and which from WW2, but glad you found somthing you can use.

They make both WWII and modern.  I'll have to measure the weapon bay to see what fits, but I'll go with a pair of laser-guided bombs.  They have some that are the Russian counterpart to the US Paveway series.

Employee discounts.  YOU work in a LHS.  Sounds like a dream job.

Kind of! I've been around the LHS so much, and I've known the owner for so long, I come in and help out around the holiday's and most weekends that I'm not doing anything else. One of the perks is an employee discounts.

Ye, thats one thing i read a lot of complaints about, Airfix only provides the Humbrol code and the referance for the actual paint colour used. Not sure what your prefered paint range is, but there are a couple that do RAF Light Aircraft Grey and it is a close match to Light Ghost Grey.

We never went for NMF in a big way. The only aircraft which is seen without paint in any numbers is the Lightning. Some post war aircraft that may look to be in bare metal were painted in High Speed Silver.

Makes perfect sense with your rather wet climate.   I'm going to upgrade the Jet Provost's ejection seats with one from Barracuda studios.

Just picked up this, Testors speculative MiG-37B in 1:48.  No box, but it looks to be complete.

After the success of their F-19 stealth fighter kit, they made up this Soviet counterpart.  When the actual F-117 was unveiled to the public, it turns out that this kit was actually a lot closer to reality than the F-19 was.

As a kid, I built one of these kits back when it first came out.  It was the kit that finally taught me to use a gloss clearcoat over flat paint to prevent decal silvering, in fact.  I even still have the optional grey stencil decals (the right half of the decal sheet) in my stash, though the model itself is long gone.

This time around, I'm planning on painting it in the black and blue color scheme of the current Su-34, since that has a somewhat similar combat role.  I'd also like to add detail to the cockpit (probably basing it on an Su-25 or MiG-27) and put some modern Russian ordinance in the bays instead of the cheesy stealth bombs it comes with.  Anybody know a source of resin modern Russian bombs?

Bish

Nice addition John, was looking at that myself the other week. Will make a nice colourful build.

I was looking at AM decals before I got it thinking I would do that but when I opened it up and got a look at decals that came with it I decided to I'll use those.   I was actually hoping it was a natural metal surface but it's aircraft gray, what ever that color is exactly.  Haven't narrowed down the exact color to use yet.

Wnet to my LHS and had to buy something,  It is a addiction!

Not sure whay I got it other than it's kinda wierd, it's british and althought you can't really tell in the photo the decals are quite fluorescent.   Plus it's a new tool airfix.  It looks really good and I do like the decals.  Should be a fun little build,  now I have to decide if I want to look for AM ejection seats or add scratch build stuf to them.

Joe, modern armour doesn't do it for me all that much either, i do have an attachment for the British stuff though.

The 40th anniversary of the Falklands war is coming up in a few years, so you never know Big Smile

My latest addition was a spue of the moment buy. End of last week i came across a company that does AM sets for the AFV Club Sciitar and Scorpion. Amongst them they have a backdate set and a conversion set for vehicles used during the Falklands war. I have been wanting to do an AFV from that war for ages, makes a change from the usual ships and aircraft. Then i found a company in the UK which sells not only those AM sets but also the AFV Club kits and AM tracks as well as sets of their own.

So, i took the chance and picked up a kit, tracks and the AM sets.

I may get a set of synthetic tow cables later from the same place, but these were enough for now. And this is my first AFV Club kit that isn't a 251 halftrack.

That is a right cool kit you scored Bish. Although, I'm not much into modern armor, I do like the appearance of the Scimitar. I'm looking forward to the day you get this under way.

lol bish thank you. I can't tell you how many times had read that as a kid growing up. I left the ranch at the age of 21 and I'm now 55 and I never stoped wondering what that ment. that makes sense why the letters where so big. I guess a simple tool being sucked up to a rotor or turbine could cause some damage or even harm.

wow 18 hrs is a long flight hopefully it was not just a cargo plane. after watching a documentary on the Falkland it looked like your armed forces had a bit of a time just getting there.

Ye, fortunatly it was a more comfy flight than a Herc.

It was a tough job getting there back in 82. A small group of islands 8,000 miles from home and the nearest freindly land is a tiny island which was still 4000 miles away.

A big problem with FOD for helicopters is that the downwash blows anything lose into the air which can then either strike the chopper or hit some one on the grownd.

If any small item takes out a turbine blade, generally the engine suffers abrupt rapid, and noisy disentigration, usually with lots of fire and smoke, and lots of added ventilation in the airframe.
