Bish-  have some pics of externals on an Avenger that is in a collection here.  Don't recall what version it is, has to be later though.  Can email them to you 4 at a time if they might help.  Just let me know what you want.  No interior or pit pics though. Can't climb on them for that.

Excellent acquisitions everyone. Looks like some folks are making out right nicely.

Mike B.: That soon to be paint rack is boss. Now that's some righteous repurposing.

Been trying to get hold of the Academy 72nd Avenger for a while now for the Midway GB. Hannants finally got some in stock last weekend and it arrived today.

Good to see you snagged that Avenger. I had that kit in my stash until just recently but, sold it. Not an overly bad kit. I'm sure you will do it justice.

Thanks for the vote of confidance. PTO aircraft are not normally my think, but i have always like the Avenger and wanted to build one for a while, so the Midway GB was to god to miss.

Had some unexpected success at last weeks FB auctions. Certainly did not expect to win all of these yet, it turned out to be a pleasant surprise. Although, I would of have bid higher for the Italian Battleship Roma. I've wanted to add an Italalian ship to my stash. The rest were just gravy.

I've had this for years, but I just found it again in a box. :)

My new paint rack!

It may need a little more modification, but dang, I wish I hadn't forgotten this!

That is cool

Looks a bit of a mix detail wise.

Hey Bish - Congrats on finding one !   I agree.  I was just looking at mine last night and I was a bit disappointed in the engine as well.  Then I looked at the photos on the side of the box and I was thinking - something just doesn't look right about the nose in those photos.  I don't know if its just the photography - or if the outline is inaccurate.  It just seems longer and narrower than I thought it should look.   didn't even look at the pilot - but there are a few in my spares box that I can call up to duty if this guy isn't up to it.

Funny - pilot figures seem to be a mixed bag with any mfgr.

Look forward to seeing what you do with this one.

Nice......got the 'Cat ordered along with decals and pit PE, should all be here in the next week or so.  Picked up most of the paint last night before the club meeting.

Looks a bit of a mix detail wise. Wheels have very very nice tire tread but there a sprue attachment point on 2 sides and a big seam running right around the middle. The engraved panel lines look nice but then the pilot is somthing i can't quite explain and the MG's are just awful.

But nothing that can't be fixed by some AM or a bit of modelling.

Thanks, Gamera. I don't remember where I got it from, but I believe it was meant to display hot sauces lol.

Now THAT makes sense. It does look a bit flamboyant for a hobby item. Especially the upper level artwork

I'm going to add a couple more shelves to it and it should serve me well.  :D

I stand corrected! In all my research looking for NASA f-104 decals one of the many sources listed the 3 NF-104s as a NASA aircraft. A bit more reasearch confirms your info that they were all USAF aircraft. Oops!

I received the Airfix Zero starter kit today and I must say it looks very nice. The brush they put in the box is a Humbrol #2 which would probably cost me around $3.99 which is what I paid for the kit.

Steve

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

BTW, NASA also had a rocket assisted 104. There's some aftermarket kit for that has the parts and decals. Chuck Yeager flew and ejected from one. I'll try a search on this.

Actually, the rocket F-104, AKA the NF-104A was a USAF aircraft, not NASA. Look at the markings.

Not pictured is a resin cockpit for the Revell/Monogram P-40B I ordered from Starfighter Decals, specific for the kit.  Having never worked with resin before, it should be fun.

Hey, thanks Bruce and stikpusher! It's not a priority item since I have almost zero $ in the kit and I'm way behind on the building list! I'll keep looking and see if I can stumble on something in the future. Your help is appreciated! A NASA version would be cool! I saw one years ago hanging in the National Air and Space Museum.

I'm with you guys,  I really like 1/72.   I've also bought some of the new released Airfix that I knew were new tooling.

Does anyone have a list of what is new tool?   So when we are in the LHS we can snap them up!

Thanks

John

Unfortunatly Airfix does notnumber there kits in an order which indicates there age as tamiya or Dragon does. The only way is to check each kit on scale mates. Hannants does specify New Tool on the listing for those kits, but you would have to look at each kit. I believe the new tooling started around 2008, the 72nd Nimrod was one of the first.

Spotted this on e-bay at the weekend for a good price and figured i should add to my modern British collection, and i have never built a Harrier. This one looks amazing. I had planned on buying resin wheels until i had a look in the box. One piece weighted wheels.

I have a few of the new range of Airfix kits now, i really am going to have to try and build one.

I hear ya Bish. I'm in the same boat. I've acquired Airfix's new tool 1/72 Beaufighter, A-4 Skyhawk, F-86 Sabre & F4F Wildcat and have yet to give one a try yet.

I think we might have to have an Airfix GB to encourage us Big Smile

So what you are saying is you are going to host an Airfix GB!?  Brilliant!  Wink

lol, nice try, i got enough on my plate at the minute.

Bish if it's anything like the GR.1 you will love it. I've done the new Airfix Mustang and now the Harrier and I'm very impressed.

I really liked the look of that GR.1 which in part pushed me to get this. Both the 1 and 3 are on e-bay at decent prices, so i may have all 3 before long.

Bish, Airfix has really stepped up thier game! They are producing some very nice kits and at some very resonable prices! I like the look of this kit.

I was really impressed when i looked at it. Some very nice surface detail. I know some people still don't like the panel lines as they are rather deep, but i don't mind the look of them. I think oince its painted they will look much better and will hopefuly hold washes. And the decal sheet looks very nice as well with options for 3 aircraft, but for 2 of them you have 2 options each.

The new ones are certainly a step up from what i and i think most British modelers cut our teeth on back in the 70/80's. For quite some time i avoided Airfix at all costs, but now they are up there with the best of them.

Makes me proud to be British Big Smile

GH I think you have to be a bit carewful with those combo and starter sets as  some are older kits. There is a couple with  harriers, and they both use the older kits rather than the new tool ones. This is an all new one and it shows it.

I don't know the contents, but from the description, sounded like a new one.  Markings for Thatch and Tomanaga, "in stock soon" from Squadron for $26 US.  #AX50169.  Ran the number on Airfix site and nothing came up

I could not find it on scale mates eitehr, so it may well be a new one. I know Airfix have done both previously, so could be either. But i do like how they make good use of these older kits in ways which wil hopefully attract younger potential modelers to the hobby.
