The B-24J is probably the oddest looking airplane of WWII. Wings way up high, rolling overhead garage doors at the bomb bay, long snout and a turret in the nose. 

 

 

 

 

Nah, I think that the French, Brits, and Germans all had some designs that were far more odd looking.

I'd have to say "beautifully oddball" - I think it's a pretty design. I just bought the Hobby Boss kit of that plane a few weeks ago. Looking forward to (someday) getting it built and on the display shelf. Blohm und Voss had some really neat designs back in their day. 

If I remember correctly, about 20 total of these were built. It was in competition with the Fw-189 Uhu, and, to my dismay, the Uhu won.

 

Special Hobby are set to release one in 72nd, will be keeping an eye out for that.

Your right about the number. Another issue was that it used the same engine as the Fw 190, and that took priority.

Now I never said that Lizzie was good looking. But she had her charms in capabilities! Much like a Huey, no winner for looks, but a winner in the utility department...

I also won a $65 gift certificate to Hobby Town, I was stoked, especially after scoring that 88 just a minute before.

The show was actually quite large and I was part of the judging, although I didn't really have any influence in the final decisions since I had never judged before and there were a few categories that I couldn't judge.

I found out that I have no business judging anyone’s work. I just can’t be that critical of anyone’s hard work.

These just hapenned to fall into my hands during today's model show in Orlando:

Hasegawa 1/48 FGR.2 paid $17

Fujimi 1/48 Aichi Val, factory sealed, paid $5

Dragon 1/350 USS Gearing Destroyer, paid $20

Great haul, plasticjunkie!! Shoulda ran while you had the chance, if they just "fell" into your hands!! That way, you'd still have your cash!

About the Phantom - I'm probably wrong, but didn't all of the RAF Phantoms have the squared-off top on the vertical stabilizer? Something about an antenae for some special avionics.

The U.S. Olympic  team just called.... they need pointers on how they can acheve medals in such abundance..... should I tell them to just go glue?????

Actually it has the parts for both versions and depends on the variant. Just started to learn about the Brit Phantoms but they are very cool looking.

Nice haul there PJ. I am looking forwardto the Airfix FG.1 in Nov and hoping the FGR.2 follows soon.

Just opened the Val, date on the instruction sheet says 1995. Great looking kit with delicate recessed panel lines, good engine detail, pit will benefit from additional detailing and a vac formed canopy will be good if you want to see the pit details.

Markings are kind of plain but I have seen some AM ones that are eye catchers. Not bad for $5. And forgot, the instructions are in Japanese LOL!

I heard the Fujimi kit was pretty good. The Airfix, Cyber Hobby and Fujimi all have accuracy issues of one kind or another but they all build into great looking models.

I'll be looking forward to when you get to it.

MC, congrats on that impressive pile of medals! That's a nice collection of kits as well, especially that Dragon Flak 36 is a treat. The Gearing should be equally impressive, considering it's Dragon.

I have the 1/72 Airfix kit of the BV-141. The rivets are the scale size of a fist. I’ve often thought of getting rid of it but want to try the challenge.

I competed in our local IPMS fall show today, my first competition and brought 17 builds, mostly 1/72 and some of my ships. We were concerned that there weren’t going to be very many entries so I brought several. Come to find out we didn’t have any worries, there were plenty of entries. I won 3 first place, 2 second and 3 third place ribbons. I’m pleased since this was my first competition and didn’t really know what to expect.

I also won several kits in the raffle drawings. The Williams Bros Wright J-5 I bought for $7 as well as decals for the Hs-129B for the western front. 

WOW!!! Eight medals, and in your first-ever contest!! Way to go!

While at the show I was extremely impressed by the 1/144 scale aircraft.

So since I will probably be relocating to Dallas in the next few months and my workspace will be a fraction of what I have now I decided to start 1/144 scale and just 1/72 armor. So my first addition at just over $4 is the Academy Luftwaffe F-4F. Becides, I could get a whole air force and army on one shelf.

MC, congrats on the awards, and nice scores on the additions to your stash! That must have been a really awesome day. Good for you sir!

Went into the LHS today and grabbed another addition to the Stuka collection and another new, in this case very new, Airfix kit.

Will most likely put together my own markings for this once i decide which aircraft to do.

No, i already have an R-2/Trop to build with the snake scheme. And looking at the instructions, it does not come with the tropical intake, so that means both marking options are incorrect. I was going to get a second one to do a B-2/Trop, but that puts paid to that idea.

I did the snake one in 1/48 for the Stuka GB a while back. Those markings are super  groovy!

I know, looks nice doesn't it. Going to have to get to my Revell 87R-2 at some point.

No pic yet, but yesterday got the Revell 1/48 F-15 kit with the screaming eagle decals, and the Oregon ANG tail fins, from my mining claim partner from his 7 year old daughter after I gave her the new White's kids metal detector that I won in a detector club raffle.  She picked it out because of the decals.

Since I live in Oregon, will make a very nice addition to the collection.
