I ran across another Hobby Shop in my travels today.
Hobbies Unlimited has been around since 1934! They also claim to be the first Hobby store in Portland.
Nice little shop specializing in that silly RC stuff, but they had quite the neat little corner of retro kits!
Alas, I found a couple of items that took my fancy and I can't walk away from a Hobby Shop without buying anything. I'm weird like that.
Ive been looking for that Monogram for a while, but the 1/32 Revell P-38J looks like too much fun with a 19 1/2 inch wingspan! (insert diabolical laughter here) :D

I'm building a Tamiya T-55 and I'm starting to dig this armor thing. I got this off of Amazon for$22 from Japan. Vietnam style.

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

Outstanding score Steve.

That's not a bad kit and there's lots of builds here to reference for your build. Just make sure you don't put the .50 on the pintel backwards. That happens a lot lol.
Other than that, there are motorization holes to plug on the lower hull. It's builds up easy like all Tamiya kits so you'll enjoy it.
Looking forward to seeing the build thread! :)

Griffin25, I love this kit. I built it last December. It has a lot of nice extra parts included for a great price.

Thanks for the tip Brindos. I noted it on the instructions. The Tamiya kits from Japan on Amazon are always cheaper than anywhere else plus free shipping. Usually get them within 2 weeks. Got the Tamiya hobby knife and extra blades for bargain as well.
For my birthday gifts this month my wife and daughter got me kits. I got the DML kit of the Conqueror mark II and the DML Sdkfz 250/7. I just finished the Amusing kit of Conqueror mark I and I thought it would be nice too have the mark II as well. It looks good to me.
Mike, Griffin, and MC, those are some fine scores. Mike in my eyes, that P-38 is a truly excellent find. I remember getting that exact boxing of that kit as a boy. That box art always stuck in my head.
And while I was away on travels, these items showed up in the US Mail on my doorstep. It was a high note to end vacation, on a trip full of high notes.
1st up, a 1/35 Bronco US 37mm AT gun. I had ordered it off eBay after I found it for dirt cheap overseas...
Then this beauty showed up, courtesy of Lyle at SPAM and Hobbico... thank you so much to both!!!
Let’s just say the wheels are already turning for the Sea King...

Nice score tehre Carlos, looking forwardto that Sea King. I worked with those a few times while down in the S Atlantic, but they were yellow by then.

On the bench: Airfix 1/72nd Harrier GR.3/Fujimi 1/72nd Ju 87D-3
Thanks Bish. I have seen Sea Kings up close on several occasions. First Navy SH-3s while doing a dependants day cruise on a LPH long ago, and later some ex Navy SH-3s that my department received to use as our SAR choppers. They got a spiffy new paint job after the low viz TPS paint was removed. It's a big noisy beast, but it gets the job done.
But after looking at what's in the box with this one, I'm pretty sure I can build a HAS.3 version, and with some decals in my collection, do a Falklands War Sea King from 825 Squadron. At least that is my plan for now...
That will be nice. Been meaning to grab myself a couple of Sea Kings. Airfix have a couple of new tooled ones including an HC 4 that works for the Falklands.
Will certainly be looking forwardto seeing yours.
Just ordered out my Christmas presents to myself from the latest Squadron flyer. Academy 1/350 Indianapolis and Bismarck, and the Tamiya 1/48 A1J Skyraider. Also tossed in the Seaforth booklet on Yorktown class carriers, for the future build of Merit's Enterprise CV-6
For a USAF guy, have enough ships in the stash to keep me going for the rest of my life.
That Indy builds into a nice kit. You may want to look into the Eduard PE set for it.
Thanks Steve, will do. I envy the job you did on yours, just flat out beautiful. I know this one won't turn out as well
A Molotow Chrome Pen from Jacksons Art Supplies in London. Tried it out on rims and winscreen surround, superb! Goodbye BMF around windows and Alluminium sprays for wheels, radiators, rocker boxes etc.

US members can also get those pens from HL with the 40% coupon. I keep forgetting to swing by and getting one.

That will be impressive. Still can't bring myself to buy one of their kits, but looking forward to seeing that.
Had to go to Salem yesterday to visit the VA vampire and a mining club meeting later. Stopped by the LHS there and grabbed the Academy 1/72 B-17E, pacific theatre.
Will put up pics when the Squadron order arrives of the three of those and this one.
I'll be watching that DO-235 build as well.
EDIT- just got an email from Squadron that it looks like the two ships will ship in about 2 weeks.
Well during a stop on Gran Canary while on my vacation, I came across this Spanish Hornets nest... look close and you can see them in front of their shelters
and having several F-18 kits in my stash, I knew what I wanted to do with one... so I found this decal set on eBay, which I bought on payday Wednesday, and it came in the mail today....
so one project to do now has all I need....
Nice, one not often seen.
snapdragonxxx,
That's an awesome purchase. Wish I had the courage to take on such a kit.
I do love IPMS chapter meetings. Why? Because someone is always thinning their stash getting rid of something that I want for the gaps in mine. This Friday it was this oldie. Another forgotten fighter from the 50’s. And pretty much the only game in town in 1/48...
Now I just need a Cougar... F9F type that is for my USN Fifties Fighters.
How much was that M3A1 Stik? Been looking for one better than the old Monogram one.
I picked up the Bandai 1/72 scale Boosted X-Wing from the Last Jedi. It was going to be for my 13 year old, but not sure if he's up to it.

Rob, I paid about $15 with shipping from China... and I was in the same boat looking for a better one than the old Monogram gun.
Is the Bandai Boosted X-Wing an advanced kit?
It's part of that 1/72 scale range at HL, the Force Awakens X-Wing with a new booster add on. Looks to be a pretty nice kit.
