Guys, don't keep us in suspense - show us some pics of Marge's decal!  I recall the real thing looked like a photo.

And since I'm niele, any ideas how Tamiya did it?  Is it a separate decal?  Is it offset litho printed?  Or is it some new unheard of Tamiya black magic printing process?

Happy to accomodate ya. Not savy with exactly how they pulled off such voodoo. Although the close up reveals some interesting features.

Joe Rix,  check out the decal of Marge’s picture.  I know most modelers consider Tamiya decals sub par, but they may have just raised the bar on nose art decal renditions.

No doubt! That is one of the first things I checked out when I opened the box. Absolutely stunning decal. Leave it to Tamiya to continually raise the bar on quality modeling.

Gamera,  thanks for the heads-up.  I’m looking forward to the build.

BK,  it is pricey, but i’m used to buying games-workshop products, so it doesn’t feel as bad as it should. ☺️

I really want this kit, but I don't like the price. Great score, looking forward to seeing it.

SurfsUp: Awesome! Love those Airfix figures!

Knox: Niiicccccccceeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!! I think you're going to love it. I'm building the P-38G kit and it's fantastic. Amazing fit and detail. The only issue I have is that you have to attach some of the landing gear parts before sealing up the booms and I ended up breaking them while masking the underside. There's probably some way to attach them later- I want the same kit you bought- and I'm going to look into doing that way on it.

Nice!  I didn't know it was available yet.

i didn’t either.  I received a post from SB that they had some in, so I ordered one right then. The next day they were out of stock.

MR TOM SCHRY

Excellent stash additions!  It's so kind of you to give these " Model Strays" a home!  An elderly modeling friend gave me the "Bengal Lancer" kit so I'm anxioius to see you build that kit some day.

Thanks Tom. I am seriously considering building it soon.....Cheers mark

Aggieman, that Kingfisher box art sure brings back some good memries.  I still think that the box art from the 1960s were some of the best ever.  Looking forward seeing your build of this aircraft.

A couple more came in over the weekend:

The Kingfisher is a third copy of this kit, second of this actual boxing.  The previous two are currently on my bench.  For some reason, I decided that since I'd never done a land-based version and already had these first two going as sea-based OS2U's, well, eBay is always there.  The P-47 needed to come to me since my 1/32 ancient Revell Thunderbolt build did not turn out satisfactorily.

Great stuff Ben!  4 for 4 on subjects I want.  Rather have 1/48 on the planes but right on the subjects!

Thanks,

John

Looks like a lot of nice models in the previous posts. After getting a bunch of detail items recently, I finally was able to spring for a few new to me kits:

I think I have plenty of cars and aircraft to build. Now it will be time to purchase some armor / military land vehicles next.

Happy Modeling Everyone!

I feel like I'm on this thread a bit too frequently.

This one came yesterday.

I probably wasn't interested in this kit until I pulled out the ancient Revell P-51B from the stash.  That thing was not good.  Typically I can fight a kit to get it to an acceptable status, but I simply could not get the engine fitted to where I could close up the fuselage. And with all the heat we've had in Texas, I got ticked more easily and gave up.  Came in to the A/C and ordered this one.  The old Revell I did actually put together sans engine (with two gaping holes where the exhaust stacks should be); she will serve as a paint mule.

I have to confess that I've been on a bit of a buying spree lately.  (My justification is because I whittled down my stash noticeably while I was unemployed; and this hobby remains near the top of my retirement plans).

Latest to the stash:

This goes along with their initial P-38F/G release, as well as their forthcoming P-38J that I have on order.

Hey stikpusher, that P-26 looks awesome! PLEASE let us know how it builds up! Smile

Here's my latest. I kinda went on a shopping spree Surprise

Great Wall Hobbies F-14D + resin seats

Airfix F-86F-40 + resin seat + an Aztec decal set for a Colombian aircraft

Great Wall Hobbies F-15E ( will probably need resin seats as well Sad )

Thankfully, while my wife doesn't appreciate the hobby, she is 100% supportive...otherwise I would probably be LIVING in the doghouse by now Indifferent

P.S. Why in the name of God's green Earth can't these companies put a decent ejection seat in a new tool kit? The seat in that Sabre looks like one of those reclining hospital chairs. It's pathetic. (End of rant) Wink

Keyser, nice score on that Zumwalt! Nice to know that there is a 1/350 injection plastic kit of that subject. Kinda looks like a 21st century USS Monitor...Hmm

First stop, I came out of King's Hobbies with these 4 kits

I went to Kings when Bob just had a small shack across the street in the 70's. It was just Bob and his wife. He was kind enough to display my terrible teenage builds.

Steve

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

Figured I would branch out from the armor kits i usually buy and picked these up. The zumwalt has been on my wishlist for quite some time and while I've never heard of snowman model, they partnered with takom on this kit so I am guessing it should have good fitting parts.

My purchasing has been slowing down as of late, but when they come, they are as weird as ever.

The HAL X10, a crazy prototype military walking tank, from the Japanese series "Mobile Police Patlabor":

The Boeing X-20 Dyna-Soar, a serious proposal from the 1950s that captured my imagination since childhood:

A tarmac base for 1/72 airplane kits, up to about F-15 size:

Yeah, it's for lazy modelers.  But it really needs a dirt wash, some grime,, and a bit of grass between the expansion joints.

And finally, a book on how to do full-open car models plus how to light them up:

Even though it is thicker than the usual Japanese "how-to-modeling" book, the photos simply cannot illustrate everything, so some ability to read the captions will be immensely helpful to get the most out of this book.  The car guys here might think "meh", but being a non-car modeler, it is fascinating stuff.
