Lewbud, love those ‘51 decals. The one in the SEA style camo looks really neat. Something different for sure.

Steve,

The Yamato turret is cool.

Knox,

Love the Sundowner Phantom.

Here's the first of my latest acquisitions for my P-51's of the world collection.  I have most of these countries already, but these sheets provide some very colorful examples.

This set contains markings for 18 aircraft, but gives you enough to do maybe 4 per side, depending on the national insignia needed.  This is the second set that I got from Aztec Models.  It contains markings for 16 aircraft from 4 different countries.

I already have these countries on other sheets, but these provide much more colorful examples.  Depending on the country, you get enough national insignia to do one, maybe two aircraft per country.  Included in this set is a set of masks for the paint schemes on the first and third Mustang, as well as the rudders of the various aircraft.  This is the final set.

There are seven sharkmouthed birds from the Dominican Republic and you get enough decals to do two, one with a red mouth and one with a black mouth.  You then get decals to do the one aircraft each from Nicaragua and Costa Rica.  If you have a 1/72 TF-51 conversion and some additional national insignia, you can do a sharkmouthed Nicaraguan aircraft as well.  As with the previous set, there is a set of masks that allow you to mask off the mouth areas, lightning bolts on the fuselages, and the leading edge of the vertical stabilizers on the DR Mustangs.  The rudder markings are also provided as masks rather than decals.  The mask set also provides numbers for the fuselage should you decide to paint them rather than use the included decals.  I don't know what the masks are made of, but they aren't like the kabuki tape you get from Eduard and feel like a slightly thicker version of Tamiya tape.  I'm looking forward to get a chance to use them.

Received from Sprue Brothers this afternoon.  Another 109 for a group build I’m excited about.  It will be my first one.  I also can’t have too many Phantoms.

Here’s what I’ve picked up in October and this month.
It was my birthday last month and I got the Meng Char 2C and Dragon Saladin.

Found this interesting figure set from ICM that I just had to have because it’s so different.

This little Polish Tankette was an impulse buy on eBay and I’m glad I got it. It’s tiny in 1/35 scale and comes with a complete interior!

Had some business to attend to in the Phoenix area Wednesday and dropped by Andy’s Hobby Headquarters. Before going I’d already decided to buy a Merkava and Centurion if he had both of them and he did.

Oh wow,  I step away for a little bit and now all this!!!

G: That's cool!!! I've heard of 'Crusher Joe' but never seen any of the anime. Very neat though. Those tiny fighters are insane. I think I'd just paint them instead of trying to use the decals though.

Stikpusher: Love me some KV tanks!!! Funny, it's one I don't have in the stash. Maybe I should pick up a KV-I or KV-85 for myself for Christmas.

Hutch: That's cool! I ought to try to dig something out of the spare parts box and rebuild it with the aid of a new kit...

And for me... I've been on vacation/holiday and managed to find a hobby shop...

Real G
a hobby that dwells within my hobby

Is a dark secret emerging?Surprise

I've been a good boy for the last few months, and bought very little other than a few paints, masks etc.  But I like the look of Airfix' forthcoming Beaufort, and thought it would be nice to have the "trilogy", as it were i.e. the Beaufighter (already in the stash) and the Blenheim.  So I found a Blenheim at a good price on ebay, and it's on its way now.

While going through some old boxes recently, I found the upper wing of a 1/72 SBC4 Helldiver (Matchbox kit) from about 40 years ago, still wearing its paint & decals.  I remember building the model, but have no idea what happened to the rest of it.  So, I found a "new" one (ebay again), and it arrived today.  It has the shop's original 1979-ish price on it - 74 pence! - it's enough to make you weepCrying.  The wing will be put back where it belongs.

And, whilst I was browsing the interweb, I chanced upon a Revell 1/144 Su-27 (guess where!) and bought it, just on impulse.  In 1991 I saw what I think was the first display in the West by the Russian Knights aerobatic display team, at the RAF Finningley airshow, and was very impressed indeed.  I will try to find the appropriate decals, if there are any in this scale.  If not. it'll be as per the kit scheme, it'll still look good.

Right, that's my lot until after Christmas!  Happy stash-building, everyone!

Vell, Zaphod's just zis guy, you know?

Real G

A bit off the mainstream path, but cool nevertheless:

A bit small at just under 13 inches (330 mm for you metrc folk), but detail is nice.

Okay, this is kind of nutty.

These are tiny in-scale fighters that you have to scrape off a slab of plastic, then use included wallpaper decals to finish them off!  I don't bother with those scrape off bolts that some armor kits come with either, as this is waaaaay beyond my skill set!

Oh yeah, a bit of explanation.  This is an Earth battleship Cordoba from the 1980s Japanese anime "Crusher Joe".  That space shuttle like thing on the boxart is Joe's personal craft the Minerva, of which Hasegawa also makes a kit of.  The anime sprang from a comic, and featured a theatrical movie as well as a video series.  For those like me that love 1980s anime "hardware shows", this was just about as cool as it got.

RealG,

I didn't know that they had more Crusher Joe kits.  FSM did an inbox review video of the Minerva a few months ago. I keep forgetting to add one of the fighters to an HLJ order.  That's going to be a cool build.

Bish,

Nice add ons for your builds.

Crown,

I with Goldhammer, let us know how it works out.

Goldhammer,

Looking forward to your Jeep build.

Crown... Please let us know how that NMF set works out. Interested in that.

Just got notified that my 1/20 Jeep Cherokee body shell has shipped from Shapeways.  Planning on using the old Lindberg Grand Cherokee kit as the donor for almost all the rest. Will have to scratch the rear suspension since the Grand uses coils and links instead of leaves.  Planning on a camo scheme like my daily driver.

Also trying to find a 1/20, or 80-90mm WWII dogface to create a vignette of the old Mauldin cartoon of a jeep being put down after breaking the front axle.  Using the old Mitsuwa kit.

Those tiny shave off fighters are insane! Are they supposed to be glued onto a deck? Or perhaps to the tip of some ultra fine wire to simulate launch or flight?

I have actually been buying some stuff over the past couple months besides paints and supplies. Really they’re all just things to enhance builds. I just hadn’t bothered to take any pics until now.

First up I picked up some tracks for a couple of Red Army heavy tanks in my stash. These will look far better than the stiff vinyl tracks that the kits have.

And some more outstanding Miniart tank crew figures. I have plenty of builds that can use these, not mention yet to be built projects.

U is for URANIUM... BOMBS!

N is for NO SURVIVORS...

Chad,

You should check out the Aoshima/Beemax/Nunu 935 K2 and K3 kits.  I just opened mine and it is very nice.  I had planned to use the kit to build this car, but it's a K2, not a K3.

(I took this at Rennsport III at Daytona in 2007.  Best roadtrip I've taken so far.)  I just ordered a K2 from HLJ.  It's out of stock at the moment, but they get new stock in fairly quickly.  The kit scheme is kind of plain, but the car's history, not to mention it's owners, is quite colorful.

Buddy, I love that 935. That was always my favorite. I see Tamiya has recently released their 1/12 935.  Maybe if I win the lottery I can buy it.

These goodies came in this week.  The first is a Detail&Scale book on the FJ Fury.  I don't know why this particular aircraft has piqued my interest, but it has for some reason.

The next is a Nunu 1/24 Porsche 935 K3.  This is the LeMans winner, but plans are it to become the Interscope 0 935.

The last is this Eduard 1/72 L-29 Delfin. Yes Steve, it will be the Tiger Meet markings.Big Smile  When I opened up the kit, I was surprised at how small the aircraft actually is.
