Um... Now that I've started, how do I stop?

Hubby tells me no all the time.  I don't listen.  I can't afford much anyway, but I have a corner in my bedroom that I keep my stash in, and living in a cape cod style house, the ceiling is at a slant in that area, so I keep the stack of models either at or below the line where the ceiling and wall meet.  He is probably much more tolerant than any wife.  He has his hobbies that take up a lot of space, so he really can't complain about mine.

You don't have a problem until you toss the wife's clothes out of her closet to make room to store said stash.......but that's another problem together.

Being by myself, I tend to grab whatever takes my eye at the time.  My budget is pretty open so it opens all kinds of stupid issues (like a 1/100 Victory and not building any sail for 50 years).

Hey All.  I returned to this hobby back in March of this year and I've been loving it!  But I have a problem now.  I keep buying kits!  And they are starting to stack up a bit.

I know this is a common problem among modelers, but it's really starting to annoy me.  Last week I bought two kits that I probably won't get to until next year.  I was just so drawn by the subject matter that I couldn't resist.   Argh.... 

No, its not a problem, its a condition. And like other conditions, you just have to live with it.

When i buy a kit, its very rare i will get to build it within 5 years.

Yes, unforunatly it can make matters worse as you see what the condition in otehrs leads them to buying and you decide you want one as well.

What are some ways that you regulate yourselves when it comes to buying kits?  Is it just will power?

Does your personal budget constrain you? 

No. I have a monthly modelling budget, its always gets excedded. When it comes to kits, i either buy cheap or save up.

A combination of both or something completely different?  I try hard to live within my means, but this hobby is starting to make it difficult.  I'm not going to stop building models. So any advice on how to resist buying kits would be most appreciated.

My other half has a horse, so what ever i spend, i bet she will equal it if not more. Thats how i deal with it

I have made the connection that models for guys are like shoes for women, we are hopelessly lost in the eternal search for the perfect model, but usually settle for the next shiny thing on the shelf.

Yeah, I'm sure a wife would help to keep me in line.  Don't have one of those though.  Came close a couple times... managed to screw it up each time.  LOL

What stash problem? Us hobbyists never have a stash problem...

As your wife starts to recognize that the thing is bigger than she is, watch out at Christmas and birthdays.  My wife thought she could pull kits out of my stash and wrap them as a "wonderful gift" for me.  I nipped that one in the bud, but you must be watchful. 

(That started at our first Christmas together.  Since then we have celebrated our thirtieth wedding anniversary and she was ok with building a shed in the back yard for my stash.)

I assume that you will start going to model shows at some point.  Do yourself a favor, don't take much money with you.  

I simply ask my wife if I can buy another kit.  She always says "NO!"

Try not to leave the house with ANY money in your wallet. ( having a wife kinda helps with this.)

Seariously tho.... you will find your tastes will vary from year to year so try not to buy 15 of the same thing...... at the same time..... in the same week.....

Don't beat yourself up. I've seen people with thousands of kits in their stash, I personally probably have around 100. 

One thing though. Tastes change. I've gone from railroads to armor to airplanes to ships. So don't buy too many of any one subject.
