Hobby Lobby model inventory

No HL anywhere close to where I live. But in same way, Michael's is now super limited. Multiple copies of the old Arizona, some basic cars and a couple of other Revell kits like a P-38 or F-15.

I now have the "stash-for-life" so it's rare to buy kits, but when I do it's almost always online.

Not to revive a thread, but to revive a dead thread.   The hobby lobby near me here in Raleigh sucks for armor and planes.  And unfortunately, it's the only brick and mortar option here. 

 

Looks like Amazon, Ebay, Sprue Brothers, ScaleHobbyist, et al, will be my best friends

 

 

 

 

Do you have any antique shops around? Sometimes (though not always) they sell model kits. 

 

Also check for R/C hobby stores and toy stores. They often dabble in scale models as well.

That aside, on my last few visits to HL, the only kit that they carry that I want and don’t have is the new 1/35 Tamiya M4A3E8. I’ll probably grab one in the not too distant future.

HL pretty much have same configurations, nationwide.  Count the shelf feet per genre.  

6 or 7 feet by 6 shelves tall for autos   3 by 6 for aircraft & sci-fi/Star Wars.  2 by 6 for armor & ships.  

What the stock is what the buyers buy and wha they think (know)will sell. 

this backs up some old metrics that auto modeling is the most popular followed by aircraft.   Sci-fi has grown recently driven by the star wats phenomenon

Well, with Revell being down for the time being, and they appeared to be the primary supplier of kits, the situation is understandable. I’m seeing more Hobbyboss and Academy stuff there at the one by me. But not of subjects in my scales or interest areas. It is what it is. I mostly just go there for supplies at 40% off anyways. Their kit selection is mostly stuff I already have or dont build.

 

Havnt been in there in a while but went last week and noticed the same Revell kits they have been stocking for the last 2-3 years with a few Academy 144/72 scales sprinkled in.

PJ & DR, at This time they show no signs of carrying a large selection of Airifix kits. If you look in the HL site it only shows a handful of Airfix in their current inventory. That selection is probably good nationwide at any of their stores. Hopefully that will expand if sales are good. 

I picked up the P-40 that they had up in Chandler. But the didn’t have any other Airfix aside from that. But I am hopeful there will be more soon.

Well, they finally have the Airfix kits on their website, so it must be official. Nice to see them expand their selections a bit. 

 

I went to the one near me and they had the Airfix Mustang and P40 in stock. Was hoping to see the Brit F4 but not yet.

Do the new Airfix kits still have panel lines that would equate to 1/4” in full scale?

 

Pretty much like everybody else’s are, proportional to scale. After all, in reality, most aircraft model kit panel lines are larger than the actual panel lines on the real thing.

Yes, I picked up their new 1/48 Defiant and P-51D. Both are beautifully detailed. I want their P-40 and Hurricane!

The new tool Airfix kits are good. The A4 is a real gem.

The kits are fairly well available online, and in shops. But if you go to HL, who carry pretty much everything at MSRP, then add their 40% off coupon, you get a good deal. Hobby Lobby’s kit stock is anemic at best, especially for new tool military models. At least in 1/48 aircraft and 1/35 armor. Their prime source of kits was Revell. With the bankruptcy of Hobbico, much of the replacement stuff was Round 2/Lindberg!!!! So for them to carry such expansion to their stock of new tool Airfix, that is a good thing. At least in my view.

Hope to see Airfix land up in the Chandler HL here too. I’ll probably make the trip up this Labor Day. If no Airfix, I’m hoping to at least grab the Monogram B-17G while I can. It’s stared at me every time I was there in the past. Hope it isn’t too late.

My local (Franklin,TN) HL had the Airfix P-40B & P-51 in both 1/72 & 1/48 a couple of weeks ago-but still a lot of empty slots.

Ours has the same now, plus the 1/76 Airfix "Battlefront" set.

Regarding the Vallejo paint-yes, they've had the brush paints for quite a while-within the last year they have been carrying some weathering sets & complete Model Air color scheme sets-with a 40% coupon they're a try. And they seem to be carrying more 'supplies' from Tamiya too-putty, primer, cement, weathering kits, etc.

I found some pretty hard to find items at Freetime. Good prices too.  Never heard of Hobbymodels.  I’ll have to check them out.

Yeah, the HL franchise here has had Vallejo Model Colour for a couple of years, along with Andrea paints, too.  A limited selection, but with sufficient colors for someone painting pieces from a time range from the 18th century through the Napoleonic Wars and Civil War, to WW II.
