Wow its cold!

At the other end of the scale, here in Sydney (Australia) today, it's an indicated 40C (or 103F) at 5:15PM. 

It's +3 now at 11:35PM with about 1-1/2" of snow on the ground here in Narvon and going down to -6 by 7:00AM. Up in the loft it's a comfy +71. Got all our errands done and the frig is full. Just fired up the firplace and settled in for at least the next few days. Nothing on the calendar so I plan on being up in the loft.

In the Phoenix area today... was in  upper 40’s first thing in the morning. Mid 70s early afternoon... saw lots of fast movers out of Luke AFB up in the sky... 

We are visiting our son in North Carolina where the temps are in the low 20’s for the lows and 40 for the highs but with the wind it feels freezing to me. Nothing like what you folks up North with the -temps are feeling. Can’t wait to drive back home to Florida to thaw out.

We had to bring in the brass monkeys last night!

Cold will ease tomorrow, but still below zero.  It will be above zero Friday.  I will try heating my shop tomorrow- if no go it should work Friday.  I can get back to modeling!

Ohio State is closed today. I think it's the first time since the Blizzard of '78. I took my dog out this morning and was not impressed. The cold and winds during the blizzard were worse.

On the way home from work this morning in Muncie it was -12 windchill of -44.

I moved to Arizona to excape the cold.....

 

 

You moved to Douglas there's the problem I haven't seen any snow in the Tucson area since moving here three years ago. 

Well--this is a first. Our office is closed tomorrow because of extreme temps, -12 for a daytime high. Many years ago I recall going into work at -22, daytime high. Times have changed, I guess. But hey--I am not complaining. I'll use the day at my bench.  Giddy up! 

It came as a big surprise to us too, comming from Okinawa, and I already have had assignments in South Dakota and Northern Maine, but the temps ther only reach 50 below, with Maine delivering more snow that I had ever seen while growing ujp in N.J.  

The base in Maine had extensive tunnels connecting the barracks and other buildings and I found the foundation of a building thast led down into a connection hub that had a post office and several tunnels going off in several directions,  but these were now flodded with ice water.

Yes it’s chilly here too it’s 53 now finished bbq and a cigar they say it’s going to be 48 tonight.

I got assigned to Minot for two years.  Thw winds couild get up as high as 80MPH.  It wasn't unusual to be outside at 80 below while changing the maps and charts in oru fighters and T-33s.  We would shut down at 98 below because it was just too dangerous to be outside.  If you were at work you would have to stay there until conditions improved enough to go home.  Every else stayed home or it you were out you had to decide to stay home or where you were.

I really didn't like that place.

 

I have a cousin who has lived his adult life in North Dakota. I had no idea the weather there was so brutal. Yikes.

here along the southern lakeshore of Lake Simcoe in Ontario, Canada, the temp is about -20c or about -2f in the old scale. last weekend was even colder.

And in Hawaii, it’s gonna hit 67 degrees F tonight.  Brrrrr!    Well, it feels cold in my shorts and tee shirt!

Correction - it was 66 degrees at 5:00 am!

Meanwhile, here in Queensland Australia its 95 degrees fahrenheit.

I live just outside Houston, Texas. Tuesday is when this front is expected to arrive, albeit with far better temperatures than y'all are describing. Even so, any time it gets into the 30s here, Houston freaks out and essentially shuts down.

I do love the winter and I like the cold, but goodness, negative numbers seem just a wee bit too cold.

Below zero this morning, high will be only a bit above.  Even with a space heater in the shop, I can't keep it warm enough to work there, and it will be much colder nex week.  I suspect I won't get any modeling done for at least a week

Space heater is a pain- I have to turn it off to airbrush or rattlecan. But I can work for a few minutes.  I just don't have that much to do on current project that I can do in a couple of minutes.  Maybe I'll spend the next week learning a new CAD program and experimenting with my Cricut machine.

 

 

 

 

The cold is a bummer. Not to change the subject but you mentioned your cricut machine. I just got one and absolutely love it but still learning it's ins and outs. It makes great stencils for painting. Have you had yours long and what do you primarily use it for?

 

I hope to use it for paint masks, but also creating the same kind of things we use PE for.  I bought a photo-etch making kit from Micro Mark.  It is quite an involved process and I use it rarely.

BTW, in the tools section we do occasionally talk about those cutting machines.  Tune into that forum occasionally.

TJ ... they’re not fake. The colleague I work with showed me pics on his phone from his family. The Middle East isn’t always hot as folks perceive it to be. They do seasons just like the rest of the world.

 

I still have relatives living in Beirut.

The pics from that link are not Lebanon except for the extra link from the site.  Those are real.
