I spent 4 years in the Canadian infantry reserves - 2 years with the Lake Superior Scottish Regiment, 2 years with the Highland Fusiliers of Canada - both Highland units. Yes, I wore a kilt, no I don't play the pipes.

I left to complete my Masters degree in biochemistry. Now I'm a high school chem teacher.

The RAF wouldn't take me (Incorrectable vision defect in left eye!).

Their loss.

I scrape a living by providing them with the latest kit!

For years we thought my uncle had been a rear gunner in a Lancaster - which was impressive enough in itself. It was only a few years ago (and a few years after he died) that we found out he had actually been employed at Bletchley Park working on intercepting and decrypting Luftwaffe communications sent using Enigma.

The Lancaster story was his "official" cover but, knowing how important breaking Enigma was to winning the Second World War, we're no less proud of him.

Retired after 20 year USAF.Ten years at Holloman AFB NM as a jet engine mechanic 479TTW AT-38B's. Cross trained (INVOLENTARILY) to F-15C&D Crew Chief 57FIS Keflavic Iceland then back to HAFB 49TFW 7TFS F-15A's, and finished up at Tyndall AFB Fl. 325FW 95FS F-15's. I served with the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) in the ground communications area for 33 years and retired in Sep 2002.
Wayne I enjoy getting older, especially when I consider the alternative.

I didn't mention it but I am an AF brat. Born- Selfridge AFB, and lived in Detroit until my Dad completed all his schools(acft maint). First station - Craig AFB, Selma Al. then to Clark AFB, Angeles City, Rep. of P. I. From this sunny location we went to the whitest sands in the country and Eglin AFB,FL. Now from beach bum status we went to the land of the mid night sun, Elmendorf AFB AK. Dependent, Gov't Worker and Military, I've done all three. It was great and ret. is fun too.

I served for 9 years in the army of the duchy of grand Fenwick. I was a privet. My dad was also in the service of the Duchy of grand Fenwick, as was his farther. My grand farther was part of the great invasion of the United States in 1959. Now that was a great victory for our little country. But the most excitement I ever saw was when the British sent a member of their royal family to visit and I was part of the honor guard. I think he was something like 48th in line to the british thrown. ;)

Well folks, I have no actual military experience, but my dad was in the Coast Guard for 25 years (2 years in Vietnam) , so I grew up on various military installations around the US, such as the Navy base on Treasure Island in San Francisco Bay, Selfridge Air Force Base in Michigan, and finally NAS Glynnco in Brunswick, Georgia. I was also in NJROTC for 4 years in high school, which was a fantastic experience. Experienced mini-bootcamps in Orlando, toured nuclear subs at King's Bay, and took an amazing week-long cruise on the Saratoga out of Mayport. Nothing to compare with the actual work experiences you guys and gals have, but all priceless experiences and a great opportunity to see how our unparalleled military protects our country, and the world.
I had plans to go to Annapolis, but red-green color-blindess and pure size (check my user name!) meant no flying for me, so I pursued other interests.
But I was raised military, and have the utmost respect for all who choose that path!

USAF [51/2 yrs security, 14 aircraft maint. and 6 Reserve]. Enjoyed it. Didn't care for Capt/Maj America. Not his real name. Bitburg, Germany; Grand Forks AFB, North Dakota; Sheppard AFB, Texas; Grissom AFB, Indiana; Eielson AFB, ALASKA; then back to Grissom AFB, Indiana.

To tell you the truth I can't recall. I spent about five months on board with the red shirts before they sent me TAD to FASOTRAGRULANT. Talk about military alphabet soup, FASO (for short) is a mouth full of it. But it was a great place to work. Got to "fly" a helo flight simulator a few times while I was there. Totally Awesome!

I've still got my "I like Ike" button around here somewhere.

Rick,

Who would have thought that there was another Ikatraz inmate out in the trenches? What division were you with? I was in CS-4, probably still called OEC while you were there.

U.S. Navy - 13 years ('65-'68 & '74-'84) as a Torpedoman's Mate on submarine tenders (AS-16.18 & 34), cruisers (CG-32, CGN-38) and even an aircraft carrier (CVN-69) with a little shore duty in between.

Wouldn't trade a day of it.
