Nice progress, Owl.

If the napkin isn't to you tastes and you're thinking of re-doing it, a thin layer of Milliput may do the trick. When I did my 1/35 Chinook, I used Milliput to do the quilted padding. You won't need as much as I used, but it's easy to work with and will do the trick. For the bulkhead, just lay down a thin layer followed by a light impression with some sort of mesh material ....

Just my 2 cents ....

Not worried about the pics.  It would be kind of hypocritical for me to complain since I posted them in the first place to help in situations exactly like this build.

Back home, my local Hobby Lobby carries it. If you have one nearby, check it out...

Got a bit more done after classes on Friday...Pictures of the cockpit showed a mess of wires behind the IP, so I went about trying to suggest that. This is the first time I wired an IP, and it looks pretty neat. Nothing's been painted yet, but you can see glimpses of it thru one of the nose window panels:

(Hey! here's that crazy grey cockpit again!)

thru the window (see the D shaped impression on the clear part?)

Looks pretty good, Owl. Some of the wiring is a little big for scale, but I like to use varying sizes anyway. I think it looks good.

One of the things I like to do for wiring is after painting, I'll take either black or white sewing thread and wrap it around a couple of wires that are close together. Tie it off and cut off the loose ends. These help replicate zip-ties used on the wiring of the real bird and add a little more detail to the wiring bundles. To keep the thread from coming loose, I'll sometimes add a small drop of CA glue to the knot.

Just some food for thought.... Lookin' good though. Keep 'er goin'!!!

Owl, build it as you like, this is a hobby after all, but Model C is right, the wire bundles are out of scale.  They look like hydraulic tubing.

Not to criticize without being helpful, in 72nd, the wire bundles are almost invisible.  I looked through my pics to illustrate, & I was kind of surprised to find  that I didn't have that detailed photos of the back of the IP, so I posted what I could find.  These are nearly brand new F models, but the wiring in question is near identical.

I wouldn't worry too much about it .... the one thing I realized after closing up my 1/35 hook's cockpit was that the back of the IP was pretty hard to see. There's not much light that gets back there anyway. As you can see by the pictures, as long as you just give them the idea there's wiring back there .... you're good to go.

Ish .... Can you give us an idea of the main differences of the F-model? I've seen them flying around here and I love the "new" color. Other than the new paint job, the only other thing I see are the engine screen covers. Just curious .... I'd like to make my next hook an F-model.

Finally! I have the ramp area done!I also decided on using some paper towel to suggest the interior quilting. This means the interior is finished and its on to the exterior

Wow, great job on the interior Owl! Yes I still say you should make some friends in the Chemistry Department, see if you can get some time in one of their fume hoods! Whistling

thanks guys!

Bish: the paper towel worked pretty good. It might not have the exact pattern seen inside Chinooks, it does give a nice impression of the quilting.

I spent a bit of time filling seams and rescribing panel lines because some of the major assemblies dont fit all that nice. There were gaps all around the bottom piece, and steps around the cockpit glass and the rotor tower sections. But now its all ready to paint!

(the putty is the red stuff)

MHs don't start out as dark grey.  They area actually painted flat black, which weathers to various shades of dark grey.[View:/themes/fsm/utility/:550:0]

Your model is looking great.  One of the best parts of the forum are the WIP threads.  You must be very disciplined with your time, cause grades and model detail don't just happen.  My daughter is working on her doctorate at Kansas and the only "free" time she seems to have is to call home for money.  Will enjoy seeing the finished product.

Well, I supposed Im helped to have free time by the fact that Im only going for my BA. I cant imagine how much time a doctorate would take!! Surprise

But it is now Semester break, and Im home for the holidays! I decided to take a bit of a break form the Chinook, and left it back at the dorms. I didnt abandon it, dont worry!

Owl,  looking at your Dec. 14 and Ish's Dec 14 posts it looked like you were almost done!  Big Smile

Nice work, so far.  I have yet to add a Chinook to my stash, but it's in the plans.  Just gotta get the right kit.

When I worked on my MS, I had a lot of time when completing my coursework, but pretty much gave up everything to finish up the thesis and defend it.  There IS light at the end of the tunnel, though, life does return to normal.  Keep up the work!

so, now after the holidays and getting in to school again and so forth...Ive finally picked up the Chinook again!  I wanted more of a patchy, used look for the helo, but it ended up way way too light for a faded black...more like a heavily faded gray. Blagh. So im gonna have to fix that!! Dunce

I found a wee bit of time to work on the Chinook this weekend, and applied a filter over the too light paint. The filter was a very thinned mixture of india ink, mixed with a teensie bit of soap to help break the surface tension and painted it over the whole helo. It took a few layers, but I got the paint to darken considerably.

before filter:

after filter:

it looks even darker in real life, but flash brightened it a bit. You can also see that I got a bit more of the assembly completed. This thing is now breakable!!

I like the filter you added, it looks even better when it's been darkened.

Very nice!
