Part of the way AMPS is judged is to get people to branch out a bit with their subjects - otherwise (as is often the case) you'll just get tons and tons of 1/35 scale German WWII armor. The fact that the judges you had neglected to leave you some constructive criticism - especially after obviously thinking there were areas you could improve - is unfortunate. Part of what I like about the AMPS system (vs IPMS-style) is that you get some hints as to what you could have done better...and could change in the future.

Either way, nice job. Make a Toast [#toast]

Wow-stunning isn't the word, that is just awesome!

Remember the scene in the film when the Sgt takes a bullet in the nech when manning the .50 on the Humvee? I can picture a great street scene diorama of a humvee racing down a street in the Mog with a Ranger manning the .50 and skinnys on the rooftops with AK's letting rip-now that would be sweeeet!

Bit beyond my skills at the minute-who fancies it!

Very nice work here...great job...a couple of things that could really take it over the top, IMO...having the skid barely touching an element of the building for support...also, using a medium that would make the rotors look like they are turning...the guys in the a/c forum have an AM, PE part from a company that looks so real you'd swear it was a turning blade...Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]...

So I'm on my iPhone cause my laptop is down and out for the count and has been for almost 3 weeks. So I apologize if any spelling is off.

Scott, this looks awesome! I just wish I had a bigger screen to look at these pics on. Glad I could help. I remember when I said I could finish my fast roping diorama before you finished this one lol. Oh boy was I wrong. Are you going to finish up that one Humvee dio now?

Take care,
Austin

Hey Steve, thanks for all the comments! I didn't know that you had stopped by, but I'm glad that you liked the builds. Thanks to for lettin' me know others liked them as well.

There was a guy there .... uh, Alex, I think. He was one of the judges ... funny hat and all, but he started gocking as I was pulling this one out of the box. That made me feel pretty good.

Thanks again for all the compliments.

Although, as I side note. I did figure out that the two bronze medals I picked up in the figures cat was for my SF "Quick Build" Figure (which I titled "Chris"), and for a set of SAS figures I did in a vignette.

Fantastic work. I, too, saw this one close up, and was amazed at the work. You made this look easy, Scott. I recognized your sniper vignette as well, and sat there eavesdropping on a couple of bystanders who were ga-ga-ing over it.

I didn't hang out all day; spent my money at Tank Rat's and split. It was fun, and a beautiful day for it.

Again, great work, and congratulations on the medals.

Thanks Klaus ... I was hoping that you would "approve". HAHAHA!!! It would have never happened w/o the inspiration I got from the builds you and Gino did. So many people went into making this one happen.

A10 ... glad you like the finished build. Hopefully, I'll be able to add just a few more touches to make this one REALLY pop.

Thanks again to all those that made this one happen ...

Congrats.  It came out looking great.  Great presentation and capturing the action.

Don't worry about the contest situation.  If you worry about how contests are won and why you didn't win, get comments, etc., you will go nuts.  They are always far from perfect.  Just go, see a bunch of great models, and have a fun day.  Don't let it be more than that.

This Dio is amazing, i like how the heli is "hanging" in mid air, try sending it in to the finescale gallery thing, or post this over at Armorama, this Dio looks great!

P.S just a little question, what company makes the m4's?

haha jk hey- congrats on the bronze, I know it's not the gold you wanted but hey- not too bad at all for the only A/C at the show!

Can you post a thread (if you haven't done so already- I'll look haha) of your 6 contest entries and any medals they may have won? I'l love to see the line up!!!

Bow [bow] nice work finishing this big guy on time- I can't tell if anything was rushed, none of it looks messy or bad- I do really like the water in the barrel, sorry it was a PITA

Honestly, I don't really know. Two of five in the Figures cat got bronze as well, but I'm not sure which ones. Another funny thing was that they one had one figures category ... "Military Figures, all scales" .... what they heck kind of "figure expo" is that. Thanks again for the compliments on the winnings. I feel good about it, but I could have used the sleep and the day off in-loo of driving to Austin and back ... not to mention it was the wife's birthday yesterday! But, don't worry. I did a through job of "prepping" the target area before the weekend. HAHA!!!

I was at the show and saw this close up.  It is very well done.  There were some seriously mad skills on display at this show.  The mounting of the Little Bird was so unobtrusive that it really looked to be flying.  If you breathed on it, it would sway and wiggle.

Great job and hope to see you in our neck of the woods again.

well, as i say, you could've been one who went home empty handed. if you can get a 1st, 2nd or 3rd in anything i think you've done fantastic. so, congrats on the win. well deserved...i like it, the end result and think you did great. what else did you get medals in??

Well .... here she is ... finally finished. I took this one to the Lone Star Armor & Figure Expo this yesterday and recieved a bronze medal for it. I was pretty pleased w/ it since it was the only A/C allowed in the show .... armor .... figure ... expo ... (Honestly, I think I slid by cause I told them I drove from Houston!)

(A little info for those that don't know how AMPS shows are judged .... personally I kind-of like it better than how IPMS is done. At AMPS, each entry is judged on its own, not against other pieces in that category. There are certain criteria that the piece must meet and in the end it is given a score from a panel of three judges. Based on the score you receive determines whether you place, or medal. For the complete list of rules and how the AMPS shows are judged, just google AMPS contest rules, and you should find it. )

As far as this particular show .... It was a great show, but I must admit that I was a little disappointed overall for a couple of (and I'll admit ... picky) reasons. 1) If you had multiple entries in a category and all of them received medal scores, one bronze, one silver, and one gold, you were presented w/ one gold medal for that category since that was your highest score.  .... WTF?!? .... I personally didn't get this since all the pieces were judged individually, and then in the end, they lumped all your scores together. (And just for those out there that are thinking/ wanting to say that I'm just a medal collector ... this process only left me short one bronze medal. If you still insist that I'm just being whiney ... I mail you the one I got for you to play w/.) 2) ... and this is really my biggest disappointment ... I entered 6x pieces for the show and 3x of them medaled ... however, I only got 4x comments .... TOTAL ... on all the score sheets for all the pieces! FOUR!! .... and one of them was "Good Job"!!!! WTH!!!! If the piece got looked at by a judge, the least he/ she could do was take 30s to make a comment on the score sheet, especially given the time we spent building these darn things! Anyway, I plan on emailing the guys that ran the show so that maybe they can fix this for next time .... not that my opinion matters.

A - N - WAYS!!!!! .... On to the part that really matters ....

Here's a couple of shots of some of the base details. The title plate I made. I didn't want to go buy one since the only shop in my area is expensive and they do a cruddy job. Its made from alum can and the lettering is from a label maker I recently got .... and yes, I've been labeling everything. Its addictive. The water barrel is from the spares box, top cut off and filled w/ Woodland Scenics water (PINA). The lumber is just strips cut from 1/32 balsa sheet. The tile roofing is from a vac-u-casted sheet I picked up at my LHS. It came out decent, but if I went back and did it again, I'd make this out of balsa for the framing and go through the lengthy process of making the tiles individually from styrene rod 1/2's.

Overall the Delta operator figures came out well. I probably could have spent a little more time on them as in the end I felt a little rushed to get things done for the show, BUT ... it is what it is ...

... And .... for the final/ overall shots .... ENJOY!!

... I just threw this one in cause I knew Chris would look at it like Dunce [D)] .... HAHAHA!!! j/k, Chris ... I was playing on PS.

Like I said, overall I'm pleased, but I may go back over this one to fix/ add a couple of details. But, for now .... it looks good sittin' on the shelf. I'll probably end up giving this one to a Ranger friend of mine. He'll think its bad-arse ...

Well, thanks to so many people for all your comments and suggestions on this one. Austin, definately couldn't have done it w/o you .... thanks for the kit. Klaus, you the man! Thanks again. Tom, Chris ... as always ... best friends forever! HAHAHA!!!! Seriously, thanks for all the help.

... AND ... as always .... all C&C welcome. Hope you guys enjoyed this one as much as I did ...

Here is a pic of some Delta Operators and Rangers in Somalia.  Not great, but you can see a bit of the gear and garb that Delta had.
