1/48 Monogram B-17G Flying Fortress

We just home from my sons graduation in Chicago. Had a great time and we're really proud of him. When we arrived home, a package from Revel was in the mail box. My Cheyenne turret. Unbelieveable.......Didn't cost me a dime. What a great company.  Thanks B17 Guy.

Congratulations on both counts!  I remember when my daughter graduated from college, still proud of her!  

Long day today.  What started off as a day to get the Cheyenne tail detailed and finish the tail of the aircraft ended up a day of relocating the right waist gunners window again.  Thanks Melgyver.

Looks good!  Sorry about the "late" info.  We got to researching it when Swanny had misplaced his staggered waist on the YB-40.  Thanks to Eric and Tony for their help.

I mentioned to Mel that I took about 95 pix of the 909 a few years ago.

Didn't get everything, but if you need something let me know and I will see if I have any pix of what your after.

Any pics of the landing lights?

How much of the tail did you chpp off? Or did you just go with trial and error.

I could go over to Castle and take some pix of the bird over there, exterior only.

My Credit Union is on the old base grounds next to the museum.

I've got a fairly good shot of a "C" model landing light, probably the same.  I attempted to scan it but it's lost in cyberspace and now the scaner won't work.  Durn "network" stuff.  I'll be home tomorrow if it doesn't magically appear later and I'll scan it then and post it.

Mel.....where'd you get pics of a C model? The swoose is the only C/D that I know to exist, and as far I know, she's not on display at wright-pat yet.

Great shot!  The detail on the fire wall would come in handy for any "engine changes".  Thanks for sharing! 

No bother, kinda fun researching the B-17 again.  I got the pic out of one of my references.  Actually have one of the Swoose's landing light too!  It's cut off on one side.  Taken while in Australia I think.  I have a distance shot about a 2x3 old black and white taken by my Dad that appears to be the Swoose.  Dad passed back in 1989.  Too small to be able to authenicate but it's in the same area as the ones in the book.  Waiting on the "extraction" bird this morning, hot out here, may be late if there is fog on the beach.  We will be on the AB-139 this morning.  Hovers too tail heavy for my likes but hauls butt!   

That pic I linked is from the restoration of the Memphis Belle.

The Swoose is right next to it.

Thanks to all of you, those pics are pretty helpful, I might be able to finnish off the wings of my 2 forts now. I've been debating as to which color to put in the space around the light itself under the outer lens. I'm leaning towards neutral grey now.

I can always re-crop the picture to show the engine and cowling more if you need it.  I would lean more to natural aluminum for the interior area around the light lens.

Looked though all my pix again and this is the only one I have cropped from a larger pic.

What get's me is I took pix of the intakes on the leading edge but not the light.

No, it's aluminum, just a reflection.  Here is a better shot. 

Spent the past 2 days finishing up my taxes and finally got around to working on the Fort again.

Made a bunch of Oxygen Tanks and Fire Extinguishers

Thanks Fermis.  I kind of knew about this, but haven't thought about it much.  Maybe I'll bring the Camel and a couple of others.  Maybe.  I'll let you know.

Those are the kit guns right? But not the kit barrels? What did you do, what are the barrels, they look differant.

One of these days I'll actually post some pics of mine again, I've been slacking lately, busy etc...Although, my work doesnt measure up to what I'm seeing from you lanc. You never answered about the cheyenne tail, how much did you cut off the tail to make it work? I should be getting the pro modeler kit, hopefully it's here tommorrow or saturday. I was just gonna use  those fueslage halves to figure out what I need to cut off from the regular G kit to convert it.

Hey Guy......Your right......Those are the kit guns with new barrells.  The barrells are 1/32 tubing.  The cooling jackets will be added tomorrow after they are painted.

All is forgiven as long as you share a detailed how to on those guns, I may want to steal your ideas on that and run with it. I've seen this one product out that is a gun barrel with cooling jacket,(2 seperate metal pieces) absolutley beautiful, but expensive, especially considering how guns are on a fort. So a more cost effective method would be better.

1/32 X .006 brass tubing.  I was going to use True Details guns, but I didn't like the way they looked.  The kit guns with brass barrells and Eduards cooling jackets is the ticket in my humble opinion.  Tomorrow, I'll detail the gun supports and pivots for the waist gunners.
