...easy boyz the idea is to soften the mask to ease  removal. Scrapin' the mask off is liable to damage the nmf under. This is not workin' out perfectly ,I am removing the mask as it softens , but some of the nmf is comin' off as well. I'll post pix of the work ,good or bad, when I am able.

hugh-Thanks for your comment

Vance -Thanks and if you mean by 'access' ,that my vinyl cutter is 5 feet from my workbench, then yeah , it may not be fair. However my company and my work paid for the cutter and the sp 300 next to it . I feel no shame.

Watching another thread regarding "graphic artists" , you well know every one with a computer is a "graphic artist" now.

I leave in the morning for Nanton , the final North American show for the Bobber '47 model.

Krow113,

I have been following this build for some time now and, I have got to say that this is one absolutely stunning build that you have presented on this forum.  The amount of thought and detail that you have put into this amazing work makes my OCD just simply salivate. Big Smile Simply amazing.  Looking forward to more updates.

Bysa-Thanks -I may see color differently, this is a natural part of my personality ,no further enhancement needed. The color was mixed in a full pot of RLM 76 ,a touch of the RLM 82 , a touch of Sublime Green , and then the yellow to green it up.

Here is a cartoonish profile of the aircraft being modeled.

...and on to the paint job. Here you will see the model and ref's laid out as well as my printout ,which is for shapes and layout ,not for color reference.

And starting with RLM 75 ,darkened slightly  with RLM 70.Front lower wing panel and camo on the upper wing/stabilizers. Masking quickly with tape and post it notes ,no pix of that ,I'm moving quickly through these first steps. I'll take a break now ,come back with the RLM 77 camo and the lower wing panels,to finish the wing today.

...moving along...

jm , wiz , Thanks , Ongoing with the paint work,I randomly applied EZ Mask with a small brush on t othe nmf areas painted prior. Does not take as long as you might think.Applied in a dotted and streaked method ,as long as they dont look too much like 'blobs'. This is the beginning of the chipping procedure.

Hmech , jmod , bysa , Thanks and stay tuned as I go through the paint work, its very involved.

Here is one of the color profiles I will use :

The bottom is now a nmf panel and I 'spotted' silver all over where there is chipping and paint loss.

You will see an interesting effect here as I sprayed the Alclad onto the flat black it was a dry spray, this I scrubbed lightly with a scotch pad to create a pattern of lines from front to back.

Grinding away at the fuse/wing details ,I added screws ,bolts ,washers , .010" brass rod 'hinges' ,Archer weld beads , and re-scribed a lotta lines and re-rivited a lotta rivits. This has taken a lot of time but has added a lot of details. I am lookin' at paint fairly soon , black/brown pre-shading to start.

Rned -Thanks for the comp. I am working through the tedious details with regard to ommissions and or additions and or corrections!

Looking at the wings and reading reviews I see that the manufacturer used an incorrect drawing of the aircraft plan view, the original artist drew the panel lines in curves, Trump made their panel lines curved as well, prolly one a simple phone call, during kit design, would have helped!

Here is the top with the three curved lines :

And the bottom with two curved lines and a curved panel which I will leave:

This will be as well as : Adding the flap actuator to the flap , gun panel cover completion , proper landing gear indicators , replacing the small panel at the back of the wing root to straddle the panel line , all needed to bring the wing into line with the numerous reference drawings I am using.

Thank you ,Krow113

V.C. - Pav - Thanks for the comments and keep watchin' as I (krow113)  drive forward with this wip.

The original idea for the model was a diorama for Black 12 ,a plane surrendered as shown in this pic:

Bein' a tad naive regarding figs at the time , I thought I would have no problem finding some  to replicate the pic, I found this one :

But was unable to find any suitable fig for the GI ,I thought I was hooped , I tried the 1/24 Tamiya pit crews ,no joy except for a hat to use on the German pilot ,that can be seen in the pix as a blue item.

I saw a fig kit I never knew existed ,I only saw it once and bid on it on ebay and got it!

Now I can replicate the moment of surrender ,as I had originally planned ,here is the sit rep today:

As you will see the main parts of the figs are assembled and they are in primer, this is a really good thing for me.

Today ,tryna get the rear wings on and redoing the armor plate behind the seat. The Verlinden supplied p/e is not far enough back to fill the space to the hatch cover. .o1o" brass ,detailed with an MDC rivit tool.

Verlinden on the left...

Reasoned , Jmodeler- Thanks and keep watchin'!

Not really anything new, but the exceptional fit of the kit is evident here as I work on the joining...

...over zealous sanding resulted in a gap on the bottom ,I filled it with cyano and will address it later...

Panel line filled with .020 styrene...

Sanding stick in play , black marker to watch the fuse...

Sanding sticks to finish , I was lucky ,rivit detail preserved.

Continuing...

And with dymo tape in place,I did scribe the lines ,however the bottom panel split so I re-glued that. There is also a lot of reshaping needed in the front of the fuse, it already looks a lot better with the straight hinge lines.

Worked all morning to correct the Eduard seat belt kit. The shoulder belts looked a little long , so I whipped out my handy 1/24 scale ruler , the shoulder belts scaled at 6' long! After a lotta cursing and paint flaking off ,the belts are useable. Not good Eduardo.....

Heres a long one with the shortened ,and then the two useable's

One way to keep it on page one is to post progress photos, here are the exhaust inserted into the fuse end and aligned ,glued.

And some landing gear details, the spring actuator and attachment of the retractor leg. The kit instructions, and models I have seen, show these in upside down, something to watch for. I believe these are the right way with the microswitch in front.

Adding on here the' mount to nowhere' is now mounted to the front of the gear bay . And the structure added to stiffen the wingspar/gearbay.

krow113,

Excellent WIP's! The 'loose cannons' is a good idea that I will use in the future.

The small arrows & marks are reminders to correct seam flaws or to add parts? Either way I am getting to the point where 'reminders' marked on the plastic is necessary during construction.

Fuselage and cpit/engine unification successfully completed. The ip meets the left and right consoles on each side inside the cpit. This is where the two assy's actually touch and sanding of the bottom of the ip on each side allowed me to bring the tub up into the fuselage. A minor visual oddity on the rear where the panel meets the tub back. This is where the armor plate will go as well. Wicked! Happy to get to this point.

Nothing broke off and all the cpit parts are in place ,nice fit .Guns are still loose ,they clip into the mount ,to allow for final alignment . The front of the fuse will still flex open enough to insert the exhaust for final there as well. This is a great kit if a person wants to take it as far as they can.

Small interference from me (Krow113) adding too much detail ,fouled the wing/fuse dynamic.Took alla 10 minutes to re-arrange the hoses ,sand the "mount to nowhere" and sand off the chute extensions added by me(Krow113) . The wings fit excellently ,good news at this point. Here is the assy taped together ,the gaps were eliminated with a slight pressure, should glue up perfectly.

On to some wing work. The gear bay is minimal to say the least ,however it can be worked with. I added cartridge chutes for the mg's from .005" brass sheet .Like all the ommisions/corrections./additions to this kit ,they are really simple to deal with ,there are just a lot of them. I also made some retractor spring arm things ( I dunno what they are) . Added previously were the clips for the gear lockup and numerous holes for the wiring ,lines etc to come.

Went for it last night and glued in the cpit/engine assy. Some tight maneuvering then a little 'click' and the parts mated exactly, gotta like that! Highly recommend the Verlinden accessory kit for this model. The guns are loose to allow final line-up with the cover. The exhaust will be added through the front to allow proper alignment.

Back on the big FW for a while .Today I squared away the cpit and fuselage additions/corrections. I added the throttle lever and oxygen hose, touched up the paint ready to install.

On the fuse I scribed all the engine panel lines inside and out .They are as thin as paper now. The plan is to cut off the front panels at a later date to display the engine. I have a few parts left to install, gunsite pieces, canopy crank , exhaust pipes ,shoulder belts and back armor. I dipped the canopy parts in Future as well.

Here is the fuse inside:

Outside:

The lower line is a hinge , the kit has no line at all. this was added.

On the supercharger intake scoop the kit is very deceptive. There is a recessed area to drop the scoop into. This is incorrect, the scoop is rivited on top of the fuse skin. I got caught here and had to sand down the surrounding area to get the skin level to the scoop level. A proper fix would be to fill in the area and glue the kit scoop on top. It looks ok. I still have to add rivit detail at this point as well. I spent all day on this mostly, on the line scribing and seam cleanup. Good references wil help to get through the corrections ,there are lots to work on.

Seams look good...

Wnut -Thanks- I am aware of the hinges on the gun panel as well as the ammo doors .The gun panel aren't so much a compound curve ,they curve inwards and when sanded off there is the flat needed to install the correct appearing hinge. I cant see a hinge on pix of the area ,they are inside the skin. I have researched this part extensively in order to correct it. I will glue the hell out of the top front panel ,fill the joint and then saw the hinge line straight. Some hinges from The Model Garage would be nice ,I havent found any long enough though.I heard they make some for truck model hoods ,those are what I need . I am sealing it all up at this point, thinning the panels at the joint lines and will saw it all apart some other time. Thanks for the help.

Krow, I can't remember if you said you were going to show the engine and MG mount detail with open cowl panels.  The piano hinge that is on either side of the center section in front of the guns is compound curve on the model.  Wasn't sure if you were aware and couldn't remember if it was in one of your previous posts.

Sfire-Thanks for your comment. I will try to post finished pix of the cockpit/power egg today.

As far as shows in Canada there are a few I can go to .Vancouver IPMS is always a definite for me and the "Western Canada" model show ,in Alberta (?) I will try to hit this year as it is at an airfield where they have a Lancaster. I will also hit the Vancouver Automotive Modelers  show ,they always have a good turnout. There is not a cohesive effort in Canada regarding model shows ,somewhat sad.

Although as soon as this is posted someone will disagree and I might even get some comments. The lack of an IPMS Canada National show makes my point for me. I have heard of a Bi-annual show back east but not lately. The Canadian model sites I have been on are pretty much dead.

As far as the FW goes I am painting details , pix later.

Should leave enough time to complete before the spring model contest season. Lucky you have a local IPMS show in the near future. On that note it seems there are only two provinces that get to host one....Hmm

Here is an update on this.I got the guns and cover clearanced ,but then decided to get the brass barrels. These were installed and look good ,they are smaller than the kit and the Verlinden resin ones.

Also added a Tuner Motor Factory (car stuff)  hose for the oxygen in my cockpit.

I almost forgot the gun syncronizers there are two ,scratchbuilt from styrene .The kit does not supply any and they sit right on top in the open. I will make a mount for these and wire them as well. I will be adding a throttle linkage to this cockpit/power egg and then fuselage sealing .

And here are the syncro's in place on the top of the engine.

This will put us over 3000 views on this build.

Stalled out in Oct ,show duties dontcha know....  I was getting fit issues with the fuselage machine guns so I ordered these :

They are exquisite.

I also buggered up some decals so I ordered these; Hobbydecal 1/24 FW 190 dry transfers.

Both of the above from Spruebrothers.

This book has a semi-detailed build of the Trump 1/24 FW 190 D9 well worth getting for this kit.I dont know for sure but the Polish/English translation comes across as very harsh on some details of the kit but does not even see others. I found I was on the right track in some areas of my build and found info on other details. The book has great drawings of the real planes equipment.  ISBN #  978-83-7237-185-0   . From Amazon.

I am itching to get back on this ,later this month.

Here is the rear fuselage with tail wheel and rudder ,also the antennawire ,I'll try this and see if it works.I carved a groove in the two fuse halves for the wire. The tail wheel is pinned.

The front of the fuse clearanced and painted.

Went to test fit today and found a few issues,a lot of thinning in the engine area around the top of the engine mounts.Exhaust proving to be the bugbear, ended up cutting them off and then things went a lot better. You can see alot in the top and through the bottom, D-9's were'nt paneled in the top of the gear bay. Wound up with all parts there and fitting well, gonna try tyo finish the wiring/plumbing today.

Wing work goin ' on , Trumpeter parts are pretty good .I see a lot of comment on the fiddly p/e parts for these kits ,no sign of trouble here yet.I am hoping to get the wings assembled today for drying. Loo roll to support and protect the gear.

You drilled holes in the landing covers to match the bolts?  Oh man!  I love that attention to detail.  The CP looks like it has been lived in but, not trashed.  This is some top notch work sir.

Cheers

Jmodeler & Wnut -Thanks for the interest. I added channels to the lgear covers and lined up the mounting holes . I also added quite a number of parts to the gear bay as well. The legs were slugged with .125" welding rod ,removing the springs . You can see the re-inforcement around the gear bay as well. The Verlinden resin kit is great it adds a lot of crisp detail to the cockpit and other areas, and fits really well.

Nice work there.  Did you redo the LG door interiors? Or did Trumpeter fix them?  That looks like the Verlinden resin cockpit.  The landing gear really needs to be beefed up.  That cockpit is like a brick.  i think if a fly landed on mine the thing would collapse.

tail wheel with at least 5-6 extra parts on the main assy.........

Cockpit comin' along.............

And landing gear cover with properly located mounting holes, these did not concur with the gear leg bolts....

The base in progress , 3/4" medite cut to shape & routed edge ,sprayed with stone spackle spray paint ,clear coated. Clay groundwork.

base1.jpg picture by krow113

base3.jpg picture by krow113

And yet more base ,at least I will have some where to put these wips when I am done .Primered clay first. This one measures 30" x 30" /Washes on and some spackle to break up the flat ground work. Some small rises to be covered in grass.

base6.jpg picture by krow113

Cut lines in to hold the spackle.

base7.jpg picture by krow113

base8.jpg picture by krow113

Washes for color.

base13.jpg picture by krow113

Then white glue thinned and brushed on for sanding. More color to come and grass on the grassy knolls.

basefin.jpg picture by krow113basefin2.jpg picture by krow113

At last! The base is done ,some simple cleanup later and  maybe a little dbrushing ,I will put it away and try to get to the actual model now.I do have somewhere to put this kit when its done. Some blending is nessecary as well .The final here was color washes , edge blend , grass tufts from Woodland Scenics superglued in place and noched after . Base is 30" x 30" plane sits in the middle.Name plate to finish.

Krow... looking good so far.   I've built this kit and the LG is a problem.  That soft vinyl like plastic will barely support the weight of the ting.  It has been a while so I can';t remember of the LG struts are hollow.  If so I advised inserting some wire in there.  The only way I could get the LG glued in was to use some gap filling CA and accelerator to harden it fast.  Set it on the LG and the weight would crack the glue because of the play in the fit.  I Kept doing this until the "gap" was filled with hardened CA glue.  If it is not hollow you maybe can drill it out from the top down enough to put some wire in to help and then work the wire into gluing the hole affair in place.

You can see my build here... http://wingnutmodels.com/Fw%20190D-9_trumpeter.html

Good luck.

Nice photos of the primed parts, though I had to pause a moment when I saw a hand reaching up out of the parts. Smile

Seeing the Jumo 213 makes me wish someone would just do a series of large scale aircraft engines in the same way Testors issues their auto engine series

But then, we'd want to scratch build ......the rest of the plane.
