Well that's weird... I was listening to my favourite online radio station (it alternates between Canadian rock classics, the spoken word of William Shatner, Irish drinking songs and Prussian military marches) when the feed cut out. I started getting a slightly garbled enigma transmission from Herr Mannstein. If I've decoded correctly, it states:

"...I have U-229 in sight under the moonlight...I can barely make out three cats--I mean agents--in an inflatible raft coming to shore...they have an envelope with them...assume it is the paper HO...heavily armed...flash the signal: turkey trots over water..."

<- end transmission ->

Been incomunicado for a couple of days....had to go into hiding...the agents were closing in.

Looks like my HO has donned the first part of her Afrika garb.....let the mottle begin.....and some touch ups..are there a large number of DAK GB's going on??? ....because there seems to be a shortage of RLM 79 sand gleb and RLM 80 olivgrun in my area...I had to use an old bottle that i had of 79 and had to revive it...it was all clumped up...and a pain to thin down....kept getting little fidly bits in the paint when I sprayed...actually I had two bottles to stat with....one was "dryer" than the other (MM arcrylics)...so I figured I would start adding some thinner to it to get it going... well I added and nothing...added some more and the clump wouldnt dissolve....I quickly figured out why...I was using enamel thinner on the acryl paint!!!Bang Head talk about a bone head move...so.. Music "one less bottle of acryl on the wall.."  Music no choice but to revive the worst off one....oh well....it seems to have worked out......next...motlle

and to quote Manny in the summer of '43........the end is near....Super Angry

Carsanab -- Sweet! Looking forward to the mottle! I have a second Revell Ho and will do her in this scheme in due course, and today I ordered the Eduard canopy masks for the current build -- if I'd known they were available I'd have ordered them yonks back. I took the opportunity to order MM Acryl RLM 74 and 75 as well. 76 I can mix from Tamiya, the ratio is spot-on and comes out perfect, as I found on a Fw 190 I did last year.

The finish on the Acryls looks superb -- any tips for someone who has never used them before???

Cheers, M/TB379

I'm liking the sand-gelb finish Carlos, can't wait to see the finished product. Makes me wonder what an Italian version would look like, with those crazy smoke-circles all over...

Sweet, I'd leave it in sand-gelb and forego the mottle...

thanks all....Thunderbolt...careful with those MM Acryls....they clog up your nozzle something fierce...even if you  have a thin mixture...some colors will give you a patchy semi-gloss finish too, so if you want a dead flat finish you will need a clear flat coat..use alcohol for thinning or their acryl thinner(if you can find it)..good luck!!

Mr Manny.....(sounds like a hairdresser)....I know what you mean about leaving it sandgelb,...but I like to complicate things...and anyway have always liked the desert mottle....I was actually looking for a way to add some yellow to it  but not that easy with a HO profile....in the end..if the mottle doesnt come out like I want it...it just might stay sandgelb.....
