Show your Revell/Monogram builds

Hey stik, the B-36 is ready for decals...........or the trash bin, depends on my frame of mind at any given moment.

BTW, even though I don't do jets, after todays announcement, it makes me want to go get an A-10 kit .

Now that F-20 is sweet stik, very nice build in deed.

Mustang, I have that same love for those old PTO USN kits too. As a boy we had a rectangular coffee table in the living room that made a perfect flight deck for them... I'll gt that forever running upgrade SBD project finished here one day soon. It is near the finish line too...

Reasoned, even on those oldest kits with the working functions, I am loathe to call them dogs or unbuildable. I have yet to meet a Monogram kit that I didn't like.

Carlos, that bad boy ROCKS! Most impressive! I have to look in my stash and see what Revell or Monogram kit  I have to work on. I've built so many already, I don't know if there's anything else in my scale left to build!

You know I got into a conversation with Reasoned a while back about how it all started for me with Monogram models. I guess I was in the 6th grade or so and was into WWII aviation big time. My favs back then were Pacific warbirds(and still rank high up there!) and I was reading everything I could in books about stuff like that. We were on a family trip to see my grandparents and we walked in a Moses 5 and 10 cent store and was just walking around the store with them when all the sudden in the R/H rear corner of the store I spotted a whole tastle of Monogram Pacific warbirds (you guys know the ones). Dauntlesses, Avengers, Wildcats, Hellcats , Zero's and even a Corsair. I bought a Monogram Dauntless kit and it was over! I was and still am hooked today. I have a couple of those old Monogram kits in my stash now (Avenger and Stuka G-1) and may get around to building the Avenger yet and may do so here in the foreseeable future.

I like that idea! How far along is your B-36 project? That is one of those kits that if you do 1/72 aircraft, is a must have alongside their B-52! Thank you for the compliments on my Tigershark and TBD. I look forward to seeing all your Monogram builds here past, present, and future, here in this thread.

What can I say stik, great looking F-20!  Next to that Devastator you built, the Tiger just shows what can be done with those classics, inspiring work.  You know, I've got an idea (from your thread and Hans's passion for the Mono classics) to do a Mono Marathon from my stash.  As soon as I finish this Mono B-36 (which is a marathon by itself) I'm going to build every Revellogram kit in my stash, starting with the Do-335 for the Arrow GB!

Thanks for the kind words, I'll always have a soft spot for the old Monogram and Revell kits, I've bought quite a few of them (pre-Revonogram and current Revell) for later builds. Some of the REALLY old ones will be ceiling hangers for my now 8 year old nephew

GM, the Tiger II was a huge Northrop success story and sold worldwide. The F-5G/F-20 fell victim to changing arms sales policies and Air Force politicking. My personal take on the matter is that the Air Force heirarchy and Northrop have had a ongoing clash of wills from the 40s thru the 80s. Only now with the consolidation and mergers of many Aerospace firms has that lessened.

USMC thanks for sharing those builds here. I remember building that same F4U kit way back when as a boy with my dad as well. And the other two as well. I did a EKA-3B conversion on the Skywarrior, but yours came out MUCH nicer! I like that ATIU Zero, something you do not see very much of with all the Zero builds out there. The oil leakage on the belly tank is a great touch!

heres my box scale Revell A3D, decals are from the spares box, main wheels are resin from True Details, and the replaced turret area is scratchbuilt, sadly shes no longer with us, a toddler nephew succeeded in its destruction

Next is my F4U-4B which the same toddler nephew also destroyed lol, its the late 90's re-issue in VMF-312 markings, I built this as a present to my Dad since this was one of the kits he got me into hobby building

And last my A6M5 Zero, also the Monogram boxing, I built this when I lived in the barracks at Beaufort. The decals are a mix of spares to give it the look of an ATIU bird

Right. I was thinking of the Tiger II. A close friend of mine was a Crew Chief and sometimes gunner on the P-61. Two Bronze Stars, 4 years in ETO. On a variety shall we say of aircraft.

He was a real Northrop man. Kept in personal contact with Jack Northrop. Who was a bit of a nutcase.

Yup. Nobody bought the F20 and only three were built. Two of those were crashed. The sole remaining bird is here in L.A. at the Museum of Science and Industry.

GM, I have an old Revell catalog that has that kit and so many more in their glory days of the 1970s.

Currently working on the Revell 1/72 Mirage III EA but nothing to show yet.

First R/M I've built wingthing wise in a while.

It's nearing the finish line... A few more weeks at the rate I am going with it. Go have a look over in the Latin American Aircraft GB to see her current status ;-)

Stik, when are you gonna post some pics of that F-20 you're working on?  I'm curious to see how its coming along.

Of course that is how it always works... Sometimes sooner, sometimes later, but almost always with this hobby. I think that is one reason that I stopped doing them... Lol!

As a matter of fact, soon after slicing it and doing the surgery, the D came out.  Isn't that how it always works out? I think I used an article in FSM back then to do the surgery.

PJ that is a beauty indeed! Didnt have the patience to wait for them to come out with the D? ;-) I got the G as a Christmas present in 82, but did not build it for another 7 years or so. I got their D when it came out and still have it sitting unbuilt in my stash.... go figure...
