Got my Eduard flaps and HVAR rockets today and I'm planning to start at midnight tonight, but once the HK B-25 shows Thursday progress will slow considerably...

Manstein's revenge

72nd Cyber-Hobby kit has some wicked and small PE dive-flaps:

I approve that scheme for your finished kit... Wink

That is a good look, Blue/Blue/white with the white flashes. I've got a Corsair with a similar pattern, a very slick look.

On the bench: Airfix 1/72 Wildcat; Airfix 1/72 Vampire T11; Airfix 1/72 Fouga Magister

Damn you Doogs and flashing that beautiful Helldiver before mine has had a chance to even ship!! I was ok waiting but now I'm going to be peeking out the curtains everytime I hear a car drive by waiting for the delivery to make it home..

Need a styrene fix!!!!!

Glad to help!

Pulled the trigger on the Eduard dive flaps. The kit PE...not bad...but the center plastic is strange and has nothing on this:

Listen Doogs, I know you`re a talented modeler and all but did you really LOOK at that picture? Some of those parts look microscopic to me. I`m not saying you can`t do it, I`m just gonna be watching intently...Big Smile I`m sticking to the kit PE `cause if I had the Eduard set they`d wind up in the spares box after I mangled them...Bang Head Hopefully, yours will be on your kit. Good luck !

Len

Len - most of those flaps, are, I believe, one or two big folding pieces. Honestly they don't scare me anything like the flaps Eduard does for the AM Dauntless.

Chuk did set the bar high when he did his Helldiver. And if Manny even pulls that off in 1/72 we may need to chip in and buy him a seeing eye dog. Stick out tongue

Are you going to make your 1/48 scale Helldiver look better than ChukW's Helldiver that he did a couple of years ago?

Unlikely......that is a very tall order!!!

 Manstein's revenge:

....I wonder if Fermis was bluffin' about throwing in on this one?

When have I ever bluffed?!!!

Definitely in with the 1/72 (on it's way to me now)....maybe....MAYBE...I'll throw in a 1/48 Pro-Mod as well. Starting back to work next week, so I've got 6 months of slow building....even slower than I've been lately.

Did some initial test-fitting of the big ugly beast tonight. She may not be a looker in the traditional sense, but she's got presence.

Overall, the ProModeler kit reminds me of the PV-1 I'm working on, albeit with a few fit issues, more flash, and those stupid big Monogram sprue tabs. Oh, and a very sloppy grip at the stabilizers.

How big is this sucker? Here it is next to my paint mule, Fail Frank, which is somewhere between a Fw 190 and a P-51.

Also couldn't resist picking up the Eduard zoom interior set. Looks very nice. I'm tempted to spring for the set that includes the flaps, even though the kit has some basic PE dive flaps. If the Eduard ones for this are anything like the set for the AM Dauntless, they're a major leap ahead. That and I just really don't want to drill out the plastic centers!

CHECK THIS LINK OUT!

http://www.air-and-space.com/Curtiss%20SB2C%20Helldiver.htm

BTW, I have the AM SB2C-4 kit, decided to look in the box...WTF??? what gives with the IP decals???? there's like 20 of these tiny dial decals. Huh?

I have been looking at that link since Manny started this thread...

Hans, I think you need to have a talk with the CAF wing leader of the Helldiver and tell them they painted the Helldiver wrong. Looks more like Blue Angel Blue than Dark Sea Blue..

I think all of those dials are on one clear carrier film, so it isn't as bad as it seems...

So...since there's no official GB yet, I'm going to ask here...

What's up with the interior colors? My ProM kit says chromate green for everything that's not blue, basically. Is it more an interior green, or a bronze green, or what?

Landing gear? The instructions again call for chromate green everywhere. Bays, struts, even the wheel hubs. Only thing that's not is the oleo. Seems weird, and I've never seen anything like it on US aircraft. And would it still apply to an overall sea blue scheme? I know several aircraft (Corsair, etc) were just painted sea blue everywhere, even in the gear bays.

Wheels? Did the Helldiver share wheels with anything else? Kind of like how the F4U and F6F have a common wheel, or the P-61/B-26...

Here's the "CAF" bird...gears are green, wheels/hubs silver...

Another museum piece, showing about the same (little different in shade)

Pretty much Doogs. Green everywhere.. The wheels could have wheel covers on them too but those where colored the same as the aircraft.

Just received my Monogram (Monogram Mafia material) Helldiver. Very basic kit but looks pretty good overall. Raised panel lines and rivets so it will be a little different than what I have been normally building. It will be needing more detail though which I am fine with. Just waiting on my Helldiver book though...

RedCorvette

The Helldiver has always been one of my sentimental favorites.

My father was a PO3 Aviation Metalsmith and patched them up when he was in the Navy.

I built my first Monogram 1/48 Helldiver kit when I was in the third grade back in 1962.  I've got a collection of them in my stash, plus a couple of the ProModeler version and some 1/72 Airfix kits, but there's always room for one more...

Mark

Yeah, now that's what I'm talking about! Toast
About where I could find one, I'll look into it, maybe I'm lucky next IPMS and I'll find one, maybe I will be luckier and RoG will release one anytime soon (don't think so but it would be nice!)

With regards, Ninetalis.
