Sweet...one of the most common things done to this kit OOB to improve it is thinning the boarding ladders and drilling out the lightening holes in them---other than that it seems to have everything you need is in the box!

Manstein's revenge

 VanceCrozier:

 Manstein's revenge:

Badge to appear shortly, after a very long vetting process...

The hard part was making getting clearance from the Skunkworks. Luckily Manny has connections.

Actually, the hardest part of the "vetting" process was me getting de-wormed...

"Lab report"??
"Cat scan"????

Hey I'd love to join an Intruder group build if there is room for one more. I broke sprue on the Kinetic 1/48 offering for the Nose Art GB a few months ago before losing my bench to home repairs. Looking to get back in the chair in the coming weeks.

Welcome aboard---you won't be INTRUDING at all if you join w/ a WIP...

Ok fine. I'm in but it'll be a while. I gotta finish what I have on the bench. I'll be doing a 1/48 Revell A-6E Intruder. Gonna get some aftermarket stuff and decals.

No problem - I've got a quick jump, but I've really only assembled the "shoulders" on mine. I'll keep the box close to the bench & try to give it some attention while waiting for the paint to dry on the other kits I'm juggling right now.

hmmm, forgot to snap a pic of the decals, will do that this evening. This is the oob sheet though:

Both are low-vis options, but I saw sheets in my search that had a red bird's head for the Navy (Roadrunners) option, and a yellow crescent moon on the Marines' option.

(Starfighter decals)

 Manstein's revenge:

Keep the inspirational pics coming....

GB will run from 6-1 through 12-1-2012...

...all makes, marks and scales welcomed...already started kits and crossovers also welcomed...

I always pitch a big tent...

Now get to friggin' work...and post pics...

Where's that badge, Vance...???

The Badge... haha - "The cat's away" today, I'll be taking a long lunch & gathering some ideas up for the badge. I was going to start it last night but couldn't resist cracking my box open last night. Embarrassed

Bigger than I thought...

http://i1012.photobucket.com/albums/af250/VanceCrozier/Grumman%20A6%20Intruder/IMG_2992sm.jpg

Good clear parts...

http://i1012.photobucket.com/albums/af250/VanceCrozier/Grumman%20A6%20Intruder/IMG_2991sm.jpg

The gear bays on the Italeri kit aren't boxed in...

http://i1012.photobucket.com/albums/af250/VanceCrozier/Grumman%20A6%20Intruder/IMG_2994sm.jpg

But considering this is the angle someone will have to see that opening - well, fermis would probably fill it up with Arizona Tea tin, but I'm leaving it alone.

http://i1012.photobucket.com/albums/af250/VanceCrozier/Grumman%20A6%20Intruder/IMG_2993sm.jpg

Wing fold detail is an insert sandwiched between the upper & lower wing halves. I'll take a look at some pics, but I think the only thing I'll need to add is some hydraulic lines - and if I do that right I could probably use thin brass rod which will also strengthen the joint...

http://i1012.photobucket.com/albums/af250/VanceCrozier/Grumman%20A6%20Intruder/IMG_2995sm.jpg

Inner wing assemblies glued, dry-fitted into the fuselage halves...

Wow---that is a sweet-looking kit!!!  I'd love to see the decals sheet while I await my Sprue Bro's shipment...I ordered some AM ejection seats and some masks for it, as well as some AM decals but AM stuff was hard to find!!!

the VA-85 cruise was a MED cruise on the Forrestal

and VA-196 only operated the B model in mixes with the A, not the E

the first -196 E cruise was on the Enterprise from July 1976-on

"Fleet Locations" sometimes matches up with GoNavy site,,,,,,but,,,,in all cases that they differ,,,,,,,"Fleet" is the tie breaker

Just in case anyone was wondering.

The first Navy unit to deploy for a cruise with the A-6E model was VA-85 in late 1971. Their only deployment over Vietnam was with CVW-14's VA-196, grouped in that unit with the A-6B SAM buster and KA-6D tanker, off the Enterprise (CVAN-65) from September 1972 to June 1973.
